• The lobby and wine tasting.
• The room- I even upgraded.

“I was not pleased with the rooms. I felt like I was staying at a hotel with a much lower standard. The lobby and staff were great. I enjoyed getting drinks with friends in the lobby. I liked the overall location. I would consider staying there again, only if I got a different room.”

• The room was too small, no view.

“For location, it was excellent. However, the hotel experience was not 4 stars. At best a 3 star hotel.”

• The staff and help was great.
• My room was next to the prudential suite, had parties in the room both nights.

“The hotel was nice. My room placement was terrible. I was put next to a suite for a wedding. Friday night- bachelors party: They quieted down at 4:00 am and then Saturday night I called the desk at 3:30 am to ask them to stop. They had a party with music and etc. I was going to a seminar all weekend and got 4 hours of sleep in 2 nights. I would never go back for this reason. I think they should have known not to put anyone in an adjoining (if wanted) room to a suite who most likely will party.”

• It was very clean, and I loved the location.
• The room was small, they couldn't give me two beds, and the sheets had some ink stains.

“The sheets were not of good quality - kind of rough! Everything was very clean, which I appreciated. I asked for two beds ahead of time, and they refused to accommodate my request. The lobby is lovely, and the location perfect for my needs. But overall, I was quite content.”

• It was very nice and clean.
• The staff was a bit reserved.

“It was very nice and clean and lots of nice things to look at. There was a broken hair dryer in our room but they quickly replaced it the next time we came back to our room. The Benson had plenty of food but not much for direction to what to do as far as getting served. I still would stay again because it was in a great location.”

• Tempur-Pedic mattress, friendly staff.
• Very noisy, room not well cleaned.

“Cute, historic hotel in great location. Rooms small, but nice. Daily trash truck at 5 am was very loud. Guest room was a dusty in places. But, all staff was very friendly and helpful.”

• Beautiful lobby, well-kept, excellent bed, good service, quiet.
• Very limited space in bathroom for cosmetics, etc., sink drained poorly.

“Grand lobby, morning coffee & afternoon tea & cookies were nice, rooms were clean & quiet, no view, decor in room was fine, a little dull, dated maybe, very comfortable bed and nice linens, service was accommodating, no complaints really, was a good experience & would do it again.”

• The mattress.
• Bathroom appliances not great.

“The hotel was nice but the rooms needed a little upgrading. There wasn't a real curtain to cover the window and the sink and bathtub were in need of repair. The TempurPedic bed was fabulous!”

• The lobby was lovely. Good location.
• The room and service was less than I expected.

“The Benson has a reputation of being one of the best hotels in Portland. I think it's resting on its laurels. The service was average, the room was shabby, certainly not a four star resort. I would think it would be 3 star or less. I was very disappointed with the hotel.”

• This hotel was beautiful and not to far from where I needed to be.
• Wireless internet was has to be paid for. Not included in room cost.

• Lobby area is gorgeous, staff was kind and helpful.
• First room we had was not clean - found nail clippings on the floor next to the bed!

“The Benson is a beautiful building with a beautiful lobby area. Unfortunately, our first room looked like it had not been vacuumed - nail clippings on the floor by the bed, other dust/dirt throughout the room. The staff was kind enough to give us another room, and while it was certainly better than the first one, there were still cleanliness issues - water rings on the desk, dust on the bedside table, bed linens were wrinkled and tired-looking. If the cleaning staff stepped up their game, I wouldn't have any issue with this historic hotel, but as it was, I was surprised at what we found at this supposed four star hotel.”

“The Benson is an upscale historic hotel located in the center of Downtown Portland. Conveniently located within walking distance to most of the districts. Upscale restaurant in hotel was exceptional (but very expensive). Great attentive staff. Funny outfits. Good experience.”

• Room dusty, not very clean, small, poor location within hotel.

“Service was fine, few amenities for a 4-star hotel. My room was not very clean and positioned right next to the elevator and with a gross view of an industrial rooftop.”

• Very well cared for older hotel. I think this is my new favorite hotel.
• The valet left our car on the street till 1am. They moved it after I talked to them about it.

“Awesome hotel. Very friendly staff. Well decorated and large room. Tip: you can park your car in the public garage across the street for $17 a day. Valet is $29 and they use the same garage.”

“The Benson is a luxurious, old-fashioned hotel with a classy ambiance. It was very comfortable and felt safe for a woman traveling alone. Park one block south in the bank building and save $11 per night.”
