  • Location.
  • It was like a time capsule. Very old. Needed renovation.

“However, when we got there, we were very disappointed. The hotel had not been renovated in year! The blanket in the room had perhaps not been changed in years. It was not clean, the breakfast was not good, and we perhaps could have gotten a better hotel for less. The location was just okay, and we could hear the street noise. Hotel was way over-rated and over-priced.”

  • The location was great and the restaurant bar excellent.
  • That they charged us 4.00 euro for ice.

“This was a very lovely hotel in a great location. The restaurant on the terrace had excellent food and very reasonable compared to other places. The staff for dinner was very attentive. The breakfast was great and included in the cost of the room. I would definitely use & recommend this hotel in the future.”

Cleanliness:[2] • Staff:[8] • Location:[6]

  • Friendly staff and the mattress was alright.
  • Extremely dirty, stinky room, with serious mold problems in the bathroom.

“The room was pretty disgusting. The walls were black in the corners and around the air vent (other than that it was a purple wall paper). The headboard had some pretty gross stains on it. The comforter was also pretty badly stained. The bathroom had residue around the mirror, and the marble tile walls. I've also never seen such a bad mold problem at a hotel in my life. I've stayed in 2 star hotels with rooms cleaner than this place. The whole room smelled dusty. I think the chamber maid noticed that the comforter was so gross, because it was taken off the bed entirely the day after our first night there. The carpet was pretty worn out and discolored and the furniture doors and walls were pretty bunged up. The phones, buttons etc in the room looked like they must have been put there in the 1960's. I would have rather have paid full price to feel like I had some say to get my money back and switch hotels.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Terrace bar and breakfast excellent. Helpful staff, great location, lovely dcor.
  • Bed too small for 2 people. Inadequate light for reading.

“This nicely decorated small hotel provides excellent service. It is near the central train station, good restaurants, and it is only a few blocks from the Coliseum; the rooftop terrace provides good views of the city (We actually saw the Pope arrive at the church below us!) Rooms are small, and the beds are the size of American double beds, one to a room.”

  • We were in the new wing. Very large spacious room and bath.
  • Air conditioning did not work.

“Excellent hotel with the exception of using your own laptop in the new wing. It did not pick up a signal, however I was able to use internet provided on their TV.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Location to the Termini Station and local attractions.
  • Needs new mattresses.

“4 Stars in Rome will not get you far. Be prepared for aging buildings and cramped accommodations. The Mecenate Palace is doing the best they can with what they have. It's a quaint older building with a lot of charm. The front staff is very friendly and helpful, and the morning breakfast is great to get you going. The location to Termini Station is convenient, as well as location to the Coloseum and Roman Forum. The room was small and dark, but comfortable. The bathroom is cramped and the shower leaked all over the floor. Service was good - the room was made up every day regardless of door signage.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • It was quaint and very charming.
  • Nothing.

“The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Almost inexpensive. The hotel offered traditional "Roman" hotel rooms as well as a more modern, up-dated option. There was actually a true king-sized bed in our room as opted to twins pushed together as is found in most of Europe.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Near the train station and close to major attractions.
  • Elevator was inoperative, but we only had one flight of stairs.

“As already mentioned it is close to the train station, so getting to and from airport was easy. You can walk to Spanish steps or to the coloseum in 15 minutes, plus a million other great places in between. There are inexpensive sidewalk cafes all around along with internet cafes. I would choose to stay here if I went back to Rome.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[6] • Location:[9]

  • I did not expect the bath tub in my room (annex 4) to be Jacuzzi. Nice surprise.
  • Wi-Fi signal is too weak. It's not complimentary - you have to pay for it.

“The hotel is located near Roma Termini station so it is very convenient to get to the hotel from the airport. My room was clean and nice. Complimentary breakfast is okay but if you stay in the annex you have to go outside once to get to the restaurant so you may not like it when the weather is bad. Wi-Fi signal was so weak in my room that I had to sit right in front of the entrance door to use my laptop.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[7] • Location:[8]

  • Clean in a nice location, off the crowd - possibility to upgrade the room.
  • Location was far from City Center. Price was not attractive to room you get.

“Luckily we had the option to upgrade the room for additional 20 euro and get something that is decent. Otherwise, it would have been a total throw down.”

Cleanliness:[2] • Staff:[3] • Location:[3]

  • Close to the train station, convenient to tube stop.
  • Outdated rooms, not clean, not up kept.

“This hotel should be 2 stars at most as it's one that time and maintenance has left behind. The rooms themselves are small, my drapes had cigarette burns in them, the walls were cloth and need to be removed and burned as they haven't been cleaned in 15 years it looks like. The carpet in the room was torn, and the wood base boards were chewed like a dog or rat had found them.”

  • Great location, clean, helpful staff.
  • Not much to dislike, a little frayed about the edges.

“Great location near central rail station, clean comfortable rooms, decent size, nice lobby, helpful staff, overall very good experience.”

“I was traveling with my wife and five years old daughter. When I checked-in, they asked me to change the room and charged 40 euros because of five years old daughter. I told them that she is just five years old and we can share the double bed, but they said no. When we checked-out, we asked them to call a taxi to the airport, they tried, but told us the taxi union was on strike and they have nothing to do for us. We had to carry our luggage to the train station with our child. We were just worrying if we can meet the departure time of the airplane. Fortunately one of private taxi drivers approached us. We doubted if he is the right driver, but he drove us to the airport on time.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Location was pretty good; staffs were helpful.
  • Bed was tiny and uncomfortable.

“The beds were horrible. We did not sleep well the entire time of our 4 day stay. If you are traveling alone, this might be okay, but the beds were smaller than an American full size bed. My husband is 6'2" and it was way too small for us.”

  • We were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade, a one bedroom newly renovated apartment.
  • Avoid providing canned fruits.

“This hotel is centrally located. Clean and neat. The nearby shops and the restaurants in the train station saved us a bundle especially when the US$ hit record low everyday when we were there.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • Location, friendly staff.
  • Hot water was insufficient not what you'd expect for an "upscale" hotel.

“Wonderful location close to Santa Maria Mggiore church (some rooms have views) and a 10 minute walk to termini train station. Hot water was problematic in the morning, which isn't uncommon in Europe, but was not expected for a hotel in this category and for the price we paid.”
