“Before I went to St. Martin, I read the reviews here at trip adviser and most was spot on. So let me give you my take. The hotel was great. It's not a five star hotel. It's a very good 3 Star European hotel. Check in was easy and the staff of young French girls who checked us in were friendly, cute, and ready to help. I speak a little French and believe me it works wonders. The room was very clean. I read in the reviews from last year that and early this year that there was mold in the rooms. The hotel management must have read them too because the room was spotless; no mold anywhere. Maid service was fine. The beds were made everyday and clean towels were but in the bathroom daily too. But the first day there was coffee but never again after that. There were also plastic cups on day one. Day two nothing. I asked for cups and days 3, 4, & 5 had plenty of them. Also bring soap as those little hotel bars we are used to are non existent at the Mercury. Instead they have soap dispensers for both the shower and the sink. We did not do the all inclusive. But breakfast was included and it was everything you could want. Eggs, bacon, sausages, breads, yogurt, cheese, ham, juices, fruit galore, and the coolest coffee machine I ever saw. It was push button. Everything from Espresso to Cafe au laid. Just add sugar. And if you like sugar substitutes it's in those little "white & black" tubes next to the coffee machine (took me a while to discover that). The Mercury is not on the beach. It's on the lagoon. But that actually was fine because the beach for the lagoon is loaded with coconut palm trees and beach chairs. The view is breath taking. My wife and I spent several sunsets out there and enjoyed every minute. But a word of warning, I wouldn't swim in that lagoon just enjoy the view. For swimming exit the hotel and turn left, walk 2/3 of a mile and you're at Baie Rouge. This is one fantastic beach. The water is clear and Blue. It is really beautiful. When you enter the sign say "NO PUBLIC NUDITY." However, there are lots of people completely nude (though they stay down the beach a bit) on the beach and in among us there were topless sun bathers. Remember if you stay at the Hotel Mercury, you are staying in France. Food! We never ate lunch or dinner at the Mercury, so I can't say but we did eat at some great restaurants. The best was L' escargot. Its downtown in Phillipsburg on front street. Another great place was the Paris in Maho. If you want to shop, shop on the Dutch side. Because it's in US Dollars. That means no credit card foreign transaction fee and no $1.37 per Euro. Same with food. Speaking of credit cards. Just about everyplace has a $20 -25 dollar limit. You spend $18.00 you pay cash. We rented a car for $93.00 and road all over the island. We rented at the airport off of Expedia.com. I suggest you do the same as there is no place to walk to except the beach. The night life in MAHO which is right across the bay is just great. Also that's where some good restaurants are. All in all, I'd stay at the Mercury again. It was well worth the money.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

“I had the nicest vacation at Mercure Simson Beach. I was expecting an average 3 star hotel but when I arrived I was really impressed with the beautiful creole architecture, the delicious fresh and light food. The surroundings are amazing, it is also very quiet. The pool is empty so you can relax all day and dring fabulous cocktails. As for the beach, it is on the lagoon so it is private and not like the noisy st-martin beach. The animation at night is fun and not tacky. The restaurants offers great choices, simple cuisine with quality ingredients. This hotel, been on the lagoon is a paradise for water sport ( wakeboard, waterski, jetski and diving). There is also an activity office where we booked an excursion in Catamaran to Anguilla, beautiful by the way. Staff was really friendly and helpful and my room had a beautiful view, a mini kitchen and a huge terrase. Amenities at Mercure Simson Beach Saint-Martin, Marigot
