Paper mills were in existence by 1680 and later uses include plaster production, log sawing and button making. The mills were rebuilt by Lord Hastings in grand Gothic style c1800 but suffered much fire damaged in 1864 and 1927.

The staff was fantastic and it is a lovely location.
There could be more attention to detail, but this is minor.
“We stayed here for 5 nights in a Tower room and also had a celebration dinner for 27 people here. The location is beautiful, the staff are friendly and helpful. The service is spot on and the rooms are stylishly decorated. The Celebrations, coordinator, was especially good, as were the bistro staff and reception staff. We all had a great time. Most of our guests also stayed in the hotel and we did not hear a negative comment about it. The food served by the hotel is also to a high standard and well presented. We had internet access.”
