• Location. Setting. Safety and speed of service.
• Small room. Stuffy airflow.

“Great looking hotel. Some construction and some clutter but enjoyed the setting and the location was ideal.”

• Elegant public spaces, marble pillars, grand cathedral ceilings etc.
• Amenities, no coffee in rooms, pay internet only in rooms, small rooms.

“The stars, although beautiful (in the public areas) did not meet my expectations for a 5 star hotel. There weren't the conveniences in the room like other 3 and 4 star hotels we've stayed in. Everything outside of your room had a price tag, and a hefty one at that! Not worth a 5 star.”

• The room was a smoking room so it had that smell, but we adjusted quickly.

“The service was great and friendly, they had no problems with my toddler (nice toddler). It felt historic and the location was superb.”

• I loved the entrance and friendly staff and the very quiet quarters associated with the location and room.
• A four star hotel should overwhelm you with common toiletries and I was surprised that portable toothpaste, brush or mouthwash was not available.

• Very elegant and clean. Professional.
• The little convenient store in the lobby did not have much of a selection.

• The beds were good. Everything else was adequate.
• They don't have ice. Counter and cloth in bathroom not cleaned. $35+ tips for parking.

“This used to be a very high class hotel. It is now average. The only special thing it has going for it is that it is downtown. Unfortunately, that cost us $35 a day for parking, plus tips, and we still had to pay $15 at Harbor front for parking. I understand that this price couldn't be helped.”

• The location was great. Walking distance to many local spots. The hotel was very nice.
• The elevator service was slow.

• Decent location.
• The room.

“The room was tiny and very dark there was a tiny window with a view of a brick wall. The shower was very dark and had cracks along the ceiling. The lobby was 4 star quality but the room I would say was more like a 2.5 star hotel. The hallways smelled. The entire hotel needs a facelift - very dingy and dated.”

• The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet.
• No coffee pots or ice buckets in the room.

“The staff was friendly and helpful. They let us know of a great parking garage close to the hotel and reasonably priced. The beds are wonderful, the best rest I had out of three hotels visited on our vacation.”

• Very old decor and a lot of older people. Not good for a young group.

• It exceeded our expectations for the price.
• There was a very short wait as we arrived, around 4:00 pm because the room was not ready.

“It is an excellent hotel with a proper evaluation of 4 stars which it slightly exceeds. It is very well situated, actually one of the best locations in downtown Toronto. Being one of the well preserved older buildings in Toronto, it has a lot of character and is very nicely decorated. I would recommend it to all.”

• The hotel needs renovation; the cleanliness.

“1st night, bed sheet had stain on it, housekeeping came and replaced it, he made a comment that it is not acceptable, heard nothing from management ever after, no apology. 2nd day, false alarm, hotel room has only a very small floor plan, no indication of how to exit, hall-way the same, no sign or instruction. 3rd day, found face towels with stains, made us lost confidence to use their towels again. Check out morning received an invoice that charged 4 times internet usage for never used internet services, complaint made, credit received, explanation: computer errors. Summary: interior is old, missing elevator buttons, dirty walls (need repaint), linen was not clean. Very disappointed. Only has a grand lobby. Never try restaurant, no comment.”

• Large room, great location, beautiful classic charm.
• No ice machine or coffee maker but coffee shop across the street and shop with bags of ice next door.

“Lovely old world charm. We had a very large room with high ceilings and very comfortable beds with lots of down pillows and down duvets.”

• Well appointed rooms. Clean. Friendly staff. Very comfortable beds!
• Valet parking only. $40 is overcharging.

“Old elegance updated nicely! You felt you were staying somewhere special. Staff was friendly and courteous. Although the restaurant was under renovation, the tables ( beautifully appointed with orchids) set up in the cavernous lobby, for breakfast were terrific. Self parking (at a reduced rate) would be a welcome option. All in all, a wonderful special hotel in the true sense of the word!”

• The bathroom was astonishing, lots of room, and a nice television.
• The was a broken outlet on the wall that looked potentially dangerous and there were some spots in the washroom that were water damaged.
