“This hotel has a habit of overbooking and then moving people to other hotels that are situated very far from the center. As we had seen reviews on websites beforehand saying they often did this, we called the day before to confirm the booking and let them know we would be arriving around 5:00 p.m. We were told all was in order. However when we arrived, we were told there was no room and they had arranged another hotel. The clerk was unbelievably rude and did not even apologize for the inconvenience. On top of that, when we got there we found out the other hotel was not even where they had indicated. It was not even on the map they had given us - it was even further out. This was a huge disappointment as we had booked the Royal mainly due to its very good location. Due to this they obviously get a lot of bookings, and apparently have no qualms about moving the extra people over to much less convenient hotels at the last minute. Basically, don't take the risk of booking this hotel. No amount of reconfirming of your booking will guarantee that you will have a room when you arrive. The last thing you want when starting a holiday is to have to deal with this sort of hassle. I am sure there are other hotels in the center of Vienna which are more professional.”

“We had seen in other reviews that the Royal had a habit of overbooking. We therefore called the night before to confirm our reservation and tell them we would be arriving at 5pm. We were told everything was in order. However when we arrived, we were told the hotel was full and we were moved to another hotel *very* far away (not even on the city center map they gave us!). On top of that, the staff were rude and did not apologize for the inconvenience. Do not take the risk of booking this hotel. No amount of reconfirming can guarantee that you will have a room when you get there! Dealing with this sort of hassle is not a pleasant way to start a holiday. I am sure there are other hotels in the area that behave more professionally.”

“This hotel has a habit of overbooking and moving you to another hotel VERY far away from the center. We had seen several reviews elsewhere saying they did this, so we called the night before to reconfirm our booking and tell them when we would be arriving. We were told everything was in order, but when we arrived, they told us the hotel was full! The Royal obviously gets a lot of bookings due to its good location, and they apparently don't mind overbooking and then moving guests to much less convenient hotels. We personally met someone else in the new hotel who had also been moved over from the Royal, and as already mentioned, there are other guest reviews on the internet saying the same thing. Just don't take the risk of booking this hotel. You don't want to start your holiday with this sort of bad experience. I am sure there are a lot of other fine hotels that behave much more professionally.”

“Great location, drab dour and overused. They keep it clean but the entire property could use a make over.”
