  • It was beautiful and luxurious.
  • It was under construction and the food was pricey.

“This hotel was beautiful, I will surely return hopefully once the repairs are completed.”

  • Peaceful, absolutely beautiful beach and friendly staff.
  • Expensive! They charge for everything.

“I liked the overall experience but was very upset with what the hotel does. They have a Meade 10 or 12" telescope, which a $30 fee is occurred to meet at an observing session. As an astronomer, I was disappointed. Breakfast was $28 a person and continental breakfast was $25. The same thing you get for free at most hotels.”

  • Fantastic location next to gorgeous beach where you could swim. Sunsets with a maitai, unforgettable. Miss it already!
  • Kind of far from anywhere else, and no decent reasonably priced breakfast options. The breakfast buffet yummy, but expensive.

“Came here to celebrate my 40th birthday, and was not disappointed. The beachside location was perfect, the staff friendly and efficient, and did I mention the gorgeous beach? They have a beautiful pool & spa, too, and at least 2 bars where you can sip fruity tropical beverage of your choice while watching the sunset over the ocean. Fantastic!”

  • Hapuna beach is the perfect beach, and this hotel is right next to it.
  • The room's decor was a little bland.

“The lobby is huge, and overlooks the ocean. The hotel is nice, grand, relaxing, but isolated.”

  • Beautiful architecture and best beach , spacious room, friendly staff.
  • Too be isolated location. Too expensive food.

“It was beautiful and romantic hotel. It had great beach for taking a rest. All staffs were very friendly. But its location is isolated from shops or public area so it was inconvenient.”

  • Beautiful sandy beach.
  • Overpriced restaurants.

“The staff was very friendly and helpful. The ocean views were wonderful. Guest room was larger than I expected and had a private deck with partial ocean view. Hapuna beach is the best beach I have seen on the Hawaiian Islands. The shady, grassy areas bordering the sandy beach provided a nice break from the sun. The only negative is the cost to eat at any of the restaurants. If you want to spend less than $50 on a meal, the nearest off-site food is 8-9 miles away.”

  • Beautiful rooms and grounds.
  • Hotel was too far out, facilities were very limited.

“This was a beautiful resort, but it comes with its share of problems. The rooms, beach, and hotel grounds are wonderful. However, the hotel itself is a bit too remote (50 minutes from kona), which means it's a long drive to anywhere. Also, the facilities are limited- only one pool and very limited restaurant choices. In addition, the facilities seem to close regularly without warning (during our stay the hotel pool was closed for a day, and both dinner restaurants were closed for two days straight). Also were numerous hotel maintenance issues, and the sister resort (Mauna kea) is closed completely. Management seems poor/uncoordinated which is a shame, because it's a beautiful facility.”

  • The hotel itself is beautiful and has amazing views of the beach.
  • The overall staff was not too friendly and lacked on making us feel like we were on vacation.

“This resort speaks beauty. However the staff for the most part was not friendly and made several mistakes on our stay. The manager was off putting and unhelpful. On top of the horrible service, my father sent chocolate covered strawberries as a surprise to our room the first night. Well, there was no note attached and we had no idea where they came from. We thought it came with the room. To my embarrassment, my dad wondered if we got them because I hadn't said anything when speaking to him. We were really upset so my fiancé went to a friendly front desk man and explained the situation. That there had been a lot of mix ups at the resort but this was a matter of principle and we will not let this go. He was kind enough to take care of this matter. But not worth the hassle. You do not pay for what you get with the service that is for sure. Beware!”

  • Access to beautiful beaches, great location and friendly and helpful staff.
  • The food was not so good, now free wireless, a little nickel and diming.

“We greatly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has access to several beautiful beaches and great snorkeling. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's a resort, so expect to pay more for food and internet access, etc. On the whole, we were very pleased.”

  • The beach!
  • We had no view on the terrace level.

“This is The Hawaii vacation that people dream about. Crystal clear pool, soft, sandy beach, just right for body surfing, boogie boards, young and old. The staff are friendly, and oh so eager to help make your stay as idyllic as possible. Spa facilities are clean and up-to-date, but most of all having access to two of the most beautiful beaches in the world, much less North America, make this a place to return to year after year.”

  • Great location, pool and views.
  • Lacks a personality; basically a corporate-designed "Hawaii top tier resort".

“I've stayed at most of the big resorts on the koala coast multiple times, including twice at the happen beach. My favorite is the orchid. The prince has a great location on a beautiful beach, but lacks personality. It¿s a bit too large in both architectural and physical scale and zoom rooms are quite a hike from the beach. Quality of staff varies a fair bit. The fitness center and spa area is a 5 minute walk away across the street. ”

  • The friendly grey Franklin partridge begging for food was cute.
  • The public spaces were eerie, strangely institutional, did not reflect the warmth of the islands.

“Over all a good experience. The public spaces were oddly severe and unpopulated with other guests, decorations, plants or artifacts which would tie the hotel to the aloha of the islands.”

  • Nothing. We loved everything about this place.

“This resort is on the most beautiful sand beach on the Big Island. A great place to relax and unwind. Rooms feature many upscale amenities that I have never seen anywhere else. This is by far one of our favorite places to stay.”

“This is a beautiful first class hotel that will rival any. The setting is magnificent with well groomed grounds overlooking a beautiful pool which overlooks a stunning beach. The room appointments are on par with a Four Seasons or Ritz hotel.”

  • Beautiful, quiet, clean hotel with a wonderful beach.
  • Our room smelled musty.

“The hotel is in a beautiful setting and is very peaceful and quiet. The only problem I had was with the room on the 5th floor in Bldg. 4. It smelled musty and damp but we lived with it. Otherwise we loved it!”

  • Great view, great beach. I especially liked the afternoon turn down service (extra towels and water).
  • There are two restaurants on site (in addition to a cafe), but the steak and sushi house is only open Fri-Sun. Days we were not there.

“We arrived to complimentary valet parking and an incredible view upon walking into the open air lobby where we were greeted with juice and warm towels. Our room was spacious with comfortable beds, and even had a partial ocean view from our Terrace room. The bathroom was HUGE, with double sinks and a separate bathtub and shower. The beach was very clean, easily accessible from our room, and included towel service with two large towels per person. The bar area was nice, with a large counter, ice bucket, coffee pot and refrigerator that were in the hallway rather than in the bathroom like many hotels. We were disappointed that the room did not have a microwave. The biggest disappointment was the restaurant options in the evening. We were at the hotel Monday thru Wednesday...days the Steak and Sushi house were not open. So we only had the very expensive Coast Grille on site since the restaurant at the sister hotel Mauna Kea required slacks and dress shirts, things we didn't bother to bring on vacation. Other than that, it was a fabulous hotel. I would definitely stay there again.”
