• Beautiful setting and grounds. Friendly, helpful staff.
• Uncomfortable bedding - coarse, hot, manmade linens.

“I agree with others that this is a remote and quiet setting, but getting around the island is not a serious problem as Maui is not all that big anyway. It is close to the tony Wailea shops and restaurants, and the hotel has a shuttle to those places. I really got sick of the gratuity game. On the balance this hotel had more positive qualities than negative. I would consider staying there again AND BRINGING MY OWN LINENS!”

• Convenience of beach. Excellent restaurants and brunch.
• Old and dingy bathrooms. Sagging beds.

“The on location beach is great, but the pool is small. Restaurants on site are wonderful, but very pricey.”

• Very quiet and private - incredibly beautiful gardens and beach.
• Noisy child in room above us.

“Has the real flavor of what Hawaii should be like. The lobby, the grounds were what I had always imagined Hawaii would be.”

• It had a beautiful beach setting and gardens.
• The tile and furniture was outdated and lousy Jacuzzi.

“The gardens were beautiful. The beach setting was phenomenal with great snorkeling. The rooms were large and clean but could use some updating. We loved the spacious patios. We loved the beautiful beach. The Jacuzzis are portable type and are very lousy. This could be improved.”

• Beautiful grounds and beach.
• Could be 5 star with makeover.

“Beautiful property and location. Clean rooms, mature landscaping, and nice beach. Would compete with Grand Wailea, Fairmont and Kea Lani with room makeover but than prices would compete also. If I'm going to pay the prices they charge at Maui Prince, I would rather fork over the extra $100 to have the nicer room and amenities.”

• The room was clean and we had a partial view of the ocean.
• Bathroom was small, hotel pool was a joke, beach snorkeling was terrible.

“Retro hotel reminiscent of the 60's era. Has not been updated since. Pool is a 30 ft circle -we actually thought this was the kids pools and asked where the adult pool was. Beach was nice, but snorkeling was poor as there were no fish to be seen. Room was small but clean. Nice balcony with partial view of the ocean. Bathroom was partitioned and small with a single sink. The grounds were nice - putting course, croquet course, badminton/volleyball, etc. However, all were poorly maintained - croquet was uneven, golf putting course was lacking grass, etc. all in all - it is in need of investment and can not be considered a high quality hotel - wasn't even worth the money we paid.”

• Gym opening until 9pm.
• Dirty and old rooms, mosquitoes in my first room.

“No frills. Hotel expensive for the quality you get .Rooms are old and musty smelling. Bugs are everywhere.”

• Secluded Beach Location & Great Snorkeling Spot (right next to Turtle Town).
• Outdated Decor, Sheets a bit musty.

“The hotel is in a very nice area. The pool is very small but since the beach is a few more steps away it wasnt much of a problem. The rooms are outdated but comfortable. Not at all the luxurious room youd expect with a "resort" title. The garden inside the hotel was beautiful & the breakfast at the cafe was surprisingly good. Overall it is a nice hotel, but if youre looking for luxury keep moving.”

“The resort and grounds were beautiful, the rooms needed to be updated 10 years ago, much worn look. The staff was great; just wish the resort had everything going for it as far as the rooms.”

• The location was beautiful.
• The hotel needs major updating and cleaning.

“The rooms of the hotel were very spacious, but very outdated and did not feel clean. The gym area was no bigger than a walk in closet and the equipment was very outdated. We did feel that the views and beach were wonderful as well as the location of the hotel. We only visited one restaurant in the hotel and based on a similar style restaurant in a different Hawaiian hotel the selection of food was minimal but the costs were the same. We felt it was way over priced for the choices you were given. Although the atmosphere and food around the restaurant were amazing.”

• The employees and service was fantastic and the beach behind the hotel is the one of the best in Maui!
• The hotel hasn't seen a lick of paint or any type of new furnishings since the 70s. The pool area was that of a 1.5 star motel type facility.

“The Maui Prince is a neglected throwback. This hotel must have been a gem in its Era; unfortunately, it hasn't seen a lick of new paint or new furniture since the 70s. The service and employees were wonderful, however the rooms were pretty outdated and pool area was absolutely terrible. They have two tiny round pools with chipped paint and the two hot tubs were tiny residential style. The only saving grace was that the hotel was located on probably the best beach in Maui. It could be wonderful after a major reno.”

• Extremely kid-friendly and superb location!
• No microwave or paper delivered.

“One of the nicer resorts of Wailea. Unfortunately, we were only there for one night. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and I would recommend this hotel to others.”

• The pool facilities and spa.
• I was hoping our room would have a better view of the ocean.

“Was beautiful. The ocean was awesome and the pool was really nice too. No complaints except I wished our room would have had a better view of the ocean. Other than that, it was perfect. The gardens and decor were superior.”

• Our room was very nice and very clean. Yoga on beach great.
• Pool was very small.

“Friendly helpful staff. Lovely clean rooms. Shower had no soap holder!! Sunday breakfast was amazing. Yoga on the beach as the sun rose over Haleakala was amazing. Pool seemed inadequate for the size of hotel. Beach was lovely. Our room was a bit noisy as it was near the lobby.”

• Outdated furnishings, general tawdriness.

“We stayed at the Maui Prince for our "mini-moon" in January 2008. In my opinion it is a decent 2.5 star hotel. I would not call it luxurious in any way but it is perfectly comfortable for a getaway. Just be aware that the Makena area is quiet. Best things here are the beaches, peace and quiet. There are restaurants within a 5 min drive and more within reasonable driving distances.”

• Rooms were spacious.
• Small pools, outdated room décor.

“The hotel is not close to most of the other resorts in the area. It was nice at times, because we had some of the facilities (pool, ocean, beach) to ourselves, but at other times we wished there was more going on. The pool leaves a LOT to be desired there is one small round pool and a small kiddie pool. The hot tubs were afterthoughts and were the kind that people put in their backyard. The rooms were very spacious, but the decor was very outdated. It was not a top of the line hotel, but it was decent for the price.”
