“Apparently this hotel will be torn down next month, so no one wants to spend a nickel to do proper maintenance and deep cleaning. It was worn out and dirty when I stayed there 4 years ago and they haven't updated a thing since then - it's just gotten worse. Fairly disappointing experience from hotel.”

“Excellent resort. Great staff. Too bad this resort is closing shortly for tear down for condos/town homes.”

“Beautiful hotel in a perfect location. Old style in that the grounds are mostly grass and foliage as opposed to swimming pools, waterfalls etc. The Maui Onion restaurant is excellent food at Hawaii reasonable prices. The beach is outstanding. The hotel is shutting down for good on September 6, but not because the hotel isn't a gem. New buyer is using the premier location to build ultra high end condos. If you can stay here before they close, do it. The hotel is well maintained, the rooms are large, and location is perfect.”

“Hotel was more like a 2.5 star and not of resort quality. Its closing soon and one could definitely tell.”

“I do not understand why this hotel is still being offered in the resort category. They are scheduled for closure in September to be torn down. Many of the facilities have been shut down and the staff is clear about the closure. It did not feel like a resort. Very disappointed.”

“This hotel meets our needs. The location was great and the views and grounds are really nice. We got our room for a great price and they even upgraded us at check in. The staff was really friendly. It's not the Grand Wailea, but it's not nearly as expensive either. Cocktails at our hotel were about $10, other resorts in the area were $15 and up. We didn't have the crowds the other resort had either. We loved this place and we are sad they are tearing it down, rather then just updating it.”

“This hotel was very dirty! I felt it was unhealthy to stay there! When this problem was brought to the hotel staff attention we were told we could have another room for an extra charge. The manager did nothing to accommodate our family!”

“All resorts in Waialea are expensive and will cost you a minimum of $300 or more a night. However, although the rooms at the Renaissance and food are marginal at best, the grounds, the beach, the ambience are beautiful. You may get nicer room features at the Grand Wailea or Four Seasons but they are packed with children, have minimal open space and frankly you feel like you're in a zoo. And you'll pay an extra $200+ a night easily. So choose your priorities.”

“The hotel was okay. The lobby and grounds were beautiful, including the gardens. The location was wonderful - right on the beach. There was great snorkeling and swimming right outside the door. However, I thought that the rooms were a little on the old side - the furniture and carpeting definitely showing their wear. It was generally clean. The staff was friendly. However, the Hotel is expected to be torn down in September to make room for a new hotel. This is not a bad place to stay until then.”

“Beautiful location. Hotel is on the downward - a bit dated and not the quality I expected. The pool was very disappointing for the kids but the beaches were excellent. People were very friendly and the weather was perfect. I would have been angry to have paid full price but for about half-price it was o.k. I don't think I will go there again with so many other choices available.”

“The hotel was beautiful and the grounds/vegetation/landscaping was also beautiful. Our room was on the ground floor, overlooking the gardens and the ocean, so it was perfect (the room itself was outdated and did not seem to fit with the hotel, but it was fine). The staff was friendly, but a bit snooty to the "less-than-wealthy" crowd (which included us).”
