Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Nice front desk staff.
  • Beds, rooms, old well used fixtures, and small rooms.

“Stayed at the Sandman April 4 & 5 2009. Rooms were old and well used. Everyone that we talked to in the hotel was having problems with their cards and the elevator. The front desk staff was great, they did the best they could, it was a busy weekend and they were under staffed. We had problems with phones, doors not opening with the cards, elevator, no hot water in our room all weekend, (it was never fixed and it was not offered for a new room). But we had a great weekend of fun. The hotel is close to lots to do and eat. Took water taxi to Granville Island awesome. Would not stay at the Sandman again.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Convenient location, great staff, very clean rooms!
  • Not a very good view from my room. But no big deal.

“Very pleased with the staff, location, cleanliness of the hotel. could have a sign on building (SANDMAN) higher up for better visibility, better advertising.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • Staff and location.
  • Small pool, only 2 elevators and always busy.

“Roughly 4 blocks from downtown Vancouver, if you like to walk, there should be no problem. I always stay here when visiting Vancouver and it has never let me down. The staff is awesome.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Location was decent. Staff was responsive when we asked about upgrade.
  • Room with double bed, clearly for not more than one person, is offered for couples. They charge for using a computer in the business room.

“I guess if you choose this hotel yourself, it's OK-good location, reasonable rates. When we asked for 3 star hotel, we didn't expect a tiny cell with double bed. Honestly, I would prefer motel, since rooms and beds there are larger. Thank god, the air conditioning unit didn't work in this cell, so we were transferred into bigger room with King size bed-and that was more like 3 star hotel. ”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • Walking distance to gas town and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
  • Rooms were small and the movie's restaurant was a real disappointment as movie's at other locations is one of my favorites.

“The staff is very friendly and accommodating the location to gas town is very convenient. The rooms are clean but small. we had a great view from our room but our family traveling with us had a view of the building next door. The moxie restaurant was not up to par of other moxie restaurants.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[1] • Location:[3]

  • The restaurant and the location is good.
  • They give us a small room, with a single bed, and we have bought a double room. The Manager was unfriendly, and discriminate us.

“Well located, with a very good restaurant. Be careful, they have very small rooms located near the elevator. The manager is unfriendly. The elevator is very slow, you can stay waiting the elevator by more than 10 minutes.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Best location, very comfortable and clean, pool, room service, extremely helpful and polite staff.
  • No refrigerator in the room, elevator was super slow & access card would not work most times, no gift shop, $10 a day parking.

“For the price, it was a awesome. I could not have found a hotel in a better location. It is only a block away from Robson Street. It is very easy to get to Capillano Bridge, Science World, and Stanley Park from here (5 minutes each driving). My only complaints were minor: they need to put refrigerators in the rooms, the elevator is a nightmare (be prepared to wait a good 10 minutes at times for the elevator and the key card doesn't always work in the elevator so you end up going up and down over and over), and there is no gift shop so be sure to bring your toothpaste and hair conditioner. Hair conditioner is not provided, only shampoo . Overall, this is a great deal. The price is right and there are only minor drawbacks.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[8] • Location:[7]

  • Located on the edge of everything.
  • Poor infrastructure. Rooms too warm. Elevators not working properly.

“Avoid this hotel until it has experienced some renovation. It is outmoded and uncomfortable.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[8] • Location:[7]

  • The staff was friendly.
  • Only 2 elevators, didn't work properly all the time, rooms were small and bland. Not a 3 star hotel.

“Overall not a bad hotel, but certainly could have had the same accommodations at a cheaper price. The hotel was older and out of date, decor was bland and the rooms were small. Mattresses were springy and uncomfortable. I would rate this hotel 2 stars”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • The hallways were nice.
  • The room was small, dingy, and the bed was very hard.

“This hotel is good for providing basic needs to the traveler. If you are looking for absolutely no frills whatsoever, this hotel is perfect for you. It is clean though.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[6] • Location:[4]

  • Hotel is located at the end of Vancouver shopping area.
  • Hotel is old and in need of update. Rooms are very small and stains on bedding. Bathroom tub leaked all over floor, and has been leaking for sometime.

“Hotel is old and badly in need of updating. Rooms are small and linens stained and old. Air condition units hard to use and put in as an after thought. Location is not great, but not too bad either. This is not one of my favorite Hotels, I would have to rate this Hotel at the bottom of my list for Vancouver.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[7] • Location:[8]

  • Location was convenient to downtown and Yale town.
  • Hallways & rooms felt cramped, too few staff at desk.

“The Sandman did not meet those standards, overall. Staff were friendly and rooms were clean but cramped, especially bathroom. No views or convenient lounge (the adjacent lounge, Shark's Club, required a cover charge). Front desk always had a line-up of people.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Good location, good restaurant, good view, quiet.
  • Could not get Internet connection in my room even though I had computer with airport.

“The hotel was close (4 blocks walk) to Gas town and other downtown areas, but far enough to be quiet. Loved the view.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[4] • Location:[7]

  • Close to restaurants.
  • Tiny room, small bed, elevators quirky and too many people for capacity of elevators.

“This Sandman is on Georgia, not far from Chinatown and the BC Center. Close to Robson. Room was very small with a double bed, not queen or king. Barely room on the floor for our suitcases. Elevators required key swipe, but card reader wasn't reliable. Only 2 elevators available, and with all of the cruise guests staying here before or after cruises, the elevators were overtaxed. Also, bellmen used same small elevators so wait was often excessive.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[8] • Location:[6]

  • It was inexpensive.
  • The bed was horribly creaky and old.

“This was the cheapest thing we could find in the area, but it is definitely not a 3 star as advertised. I would say more on the 2 star level. The elevator was semi-functional and we were on the 11th floor so that was an inconvenience. The bed was so creaky that it made noise even when putting shoes and clothes on it.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • The location was great and the staff excellent!
  • The beds were hard and the pillows flat. I woke up feeling like I needed a massage.

“The hotel staff was excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The location was also great. However, the room itself was a big disappointment. There are only 2 things I need when I stay in a hotel, a nice bed and a quiet room. I didn't have either of those things here. The bed was hard and you could feel the springs and the pillows were so flat that I had to use two pillows to feel like I even had one. I also could hear all the noise in the hallway which woke me up repeatedly in the mornings. ”
