“Stayed at the Sandman April 4 & 5 2009. Rooms were old and well used. Everyone that we talked to in the hotel was having problems with their cards and the elevator. The front desk staff was great, they did the best they could, it was a busy weekend and they were under staffed. We had problems with phones, doors not opening with the cards, elevator, no hot water in our room all weekend, (it was never fixed and it was not offered for a new room). But we had a great weekend of fun. The hotel is close to lots to do and eat. Took water taxi to Granville Island awesome. Would not stay at the Sandman again.”

“Very pleased with the staff, location, cleanliness of the hotel. could have a sign on building (SANDMAN) higher up for better visibility, better advertising.”

“Roughly 4 blocks from downtown Vancouver, if you like to walk, there should be no problem. I always stay here when visiting Vancouver and it has never let me down. The staff is awesome.”

“I guess if you choose this hotel yourself, it's OK-good location, reasonable rates. When we asked for 3 star hotel, we didn't expect a tiny cell with double bed. Honestly, I would prefer motel, since rooms and beds there are larger. Thank god, the air conditioning unit didn't work in this cell, so we were transferred into bigger room with King size bed-and that was more like 3 star hotel. ”

“The staff is very friendly and accommodating the location to gas town is very convenient. The rooms are clean but small. we had a great view from our room but our family traveling with us had a view of the building next door. The moxie restaurant was not up to par of other moxie restaurants.”

“Well located, with a very good restaurant. Be careful, they have very small rooms located near the elevator. The manager is unfriendly. The elevator is very slow, you can stay waiting the elevator by more than 10 minutes.”

“For the price, it was a awesome. I could not have found a hotel in a better location. It is only a block away from Robson Street. It is very easy to get to Capillano Bridge, Science World, and Stanley Park from here (5 minutes each driving). My only complaints were minor: they need to put refrigerators in the rooms, the elevator is a nightmare (be prepared to wait a good 10 minutes at times for the elevator and the key card doesn't always work in the elevator so you end up going up and down over and over), and there is no gift shop so be sure to bring your toothpaste and hair conditioner. Hair conditioner is not provided, only shampoo . Overall, this is a great deal. The price is right and there are only minor drawbacks.”

“Overall not a bad hotel, but certainly could have had the same accommodations at a cheaper price. The hotel was older and out of date, decor was bland and the rooms were small. Mattresses were springy and uncomfortable. I would rate this hotel 2 stars”

“This hotel is good for providing basic needs to the traveler. If you are looking for absolutely no frills whatsoever, this hotel is perfect for you. It is clean though.”

“Hotel is old and badly in need of updating. Rooms are small and linens stained and old. Air condition units hard to use and put in as an after thought. Location is not great, but not too bad either. This is not one of my favorite Hotels, I would have to rate this Hotel at the bottom of my list for Vancouver.”

“The Sandman did not meet those standards, overall. Staff were friendly and rooms were clean but cramped, especially bathroom. No views or convenient lounge (the adjacent lounge, Shark's Club, required a cover charge). Front desk always had a line-up of people.”

“This Sandman is on Georgia, not far from Chinatown and the BC Center. Close to Robson. Room was very small with a double bed, not queen or king. Barely room on the floor for our suitcases. Elevators required key swipe, but card reader wasn't reliable. Only 2 elevators available, and with all of the cruise guests staying here before or after cruises, the elevators were overtaxed. Also, bellmen used same small elevators so wait was often excessive.”

“This was the cheapest thing we could find in the area, but it is definitely not a 3 star as advertised. I would say more on the 2 star level. The elevator was semi-functional and we were on the 11th floor so that was an inconvenience. The bed was so creaky that it made noise even when putting shoes and clothes on it.”

“The hotel staff was excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The location was also great. However, the room itself was a big disappointment. There are only 2 things I need when I stay in a hotel, a nice bed and a quiet room. I didn't have either of those things here. The bed was hard and you could feel the springs and the pillows were so flat that I had to use two pillows to feel like I even had one. I also could hear all the noise in the hallway which woke me up repeatedly in the mornings. ”
