  • Great location, fancy lobby.
  • Nickel and dime you for everything. Nothing is complimentary.

“It is a beautiful place on the surface and the location is fantastic, but for the cost of the room there is surprisingly little that you do not pay for $26 a day for parking, $1.50 to make a local call, $15 a day for the internet, $8 for a bottle of water. Honestly, I am amazed there was not a charge to take ice from the ice machines.”

  • Health club facilities primarily the pool and whirlpool areas.
  • Too expensive for value.

“While I have stayed in Toronto on many occasions, I have never had the cause or opportunity to stay at the Royal York. I found that the room rate was not in keeping with the quality or standard that I would have expected with a hotel of this caliber. After the initial interest of being able to say that "I stayed at the Royal York" I wouldn't be too inclined to do it again.”

  • The hotel is centrally located, close to the lake and to the airport.
  • The service is very bad.

“What was worse though was the way management handled my complaints. I requested to see the manager on duty and someone came to the counter, identifying herself as the manager. When I explained that I thought it was important to provide feedback on the service, she said " you should never be afraid to let us know" I thought that tone was patronizing but continued to relate details of the incidents which she dutifully wrote down. She took some incidental charges off my bill and said she would have some other manager (restaurant or something) call me. When I asked for her card she gave me the card for another manager as she did not have any cards. No one has since contacted me after more than a week. The incidents ranged from a waitress accidentally spilling drinks all over me and ignoring me as the wiped up the floor without so much as an apology, charging me for cleaning after I protested and they agreed to have my clothes cleaned, very poor waiting service in a hotel bar as well as being accosted by a waiter in front of a guest in the lobby about some bill that he alleges went unpaid by some people I was with. The experience was so shocking that it would be hard for me to consider even attending an event at the hotel, not to mention staying there. I appreciated the effort of the front desk person who helped. She listened attentively and wrote everything down, as well as offered to take incidental charges off the bill. Unfortunately, I believe the level and frequency of my bad experiences over such a short space of time warranted a different response by Fairmont management.”

  • Very friendly atmosphere, wonderful service.
  • We found it difficult to locate the elevators to the parking garage. More direction from the lobby floor would be helpful.

“We had a wonderful night. We were upgraded to the Gold Floor which provided a very comfortable lounge area; a relaxing place to sit and have a light snack and drink other than sitting in our room.”
