“This hotel was easy to find, the rooms were clean and the staff was pretty helpful for the most part. We arranged a taxi out of the hotel and it was very close to the Metro as well as the train station.”

“The hotel des artistes are located in a quiet street, close to the metro and to the termini station. There are numerous places to eat nearby, however, none of them is very good and some of them are too expensive for what you get. The hotel facilities themselves are small, with no frills, but very clean and quiet. The staff is friendly and helpful.”

“Overall the hotel's public areas were not all that inspiring, other than the patio. The rooms are much nicer than the first impression. There is a great bar across the street where you can purchase a bottle of wine and they will open it for a romantic evening on the roof. It is not located in the center of Rome, but close to the metro and within walking distance of the Termini train station.”

“For the price we paid, this hotel exceeded my expectations. The outside of the hotel looks a bit dodgy, but the rooms were great and the continental breakfast was also surprisingly good. I would stay there again because it was clean and affordable.”

“It was a clean room and decent location- a short walk to the metro which could take you wherever you wanted to go for low cost. Friendly and helpful staff. Not very comfortable rooms.”

“Des artistes was a good hotel. It is neither the top of the line or the bottom of the barrel but a good medium hotel. The hotel was clean, the desk staff, for the most part, was very helpful, and the breakfast was adequate. It was easy to get to and it was also an easy location from which to tour the city of Rome. We were satisfied.”

“Other than the small elevator and the steps to get to the elevator, it was nice. The odd thing was to turn on the heat you had to close the windows.”

“Hotel is overrated, it should be a two star hotel. Many problems with key cards. Breakfast area like a sardine can.”

“This was our first stay at a European hotel. We found it clean and adequate with very good front desk help and breakfast. Both the room and the breakfast area were extremely small. It did not measure up to American hotels in price or room quality.”

“This hotel misrepresents itself a bit. One look at their printed matter and you can see they "photo shop" almost every shot. The real images, views, lobby (by the way, it's on the 5th floor, and you will have to hoof it, because your luggage won't fit in the pre-historic elevator), neighborhood are all somewhat seedy. I worry about the cleanliness. MY wife and daughter got serious skin rashes after staying there.”

“I was a little thrown by the reception desk on the top floor. We arrived at the train station after 23:00 (11:00 PM American.) Streets were busy, plenty of pedestrians around, so we felt safe walking five blocks to the hotel with our rolling suitcases. The staff saw us on the security camera at the door and buzzed us in. The cage elevator is tiny and a little bit scary, but we were grateful for its presence.
The breakfast included in the room price was fabulous. We did not use the rooftop terrace, but we did take a look at it and it was a very nice atmosphere.
Desk staff had good information about tours. There was also a bookcase in the reception lobby filled with travel guides in several languages, which was a very nice service.”

“The hotel in general was clean, the staff very helpful and friendly. The location was a little out of the way for our needs as tourists.”

“Hotel staff was rude at check-in and throughout our 5 night stay. Hotel was not worthy of 3 stars by American or European standards. Only decent thing in the room was the bathroom which was quite sizable by European measure. Housekeeping even missed our room one day. ”

“The hotel was really very nice, and the staff was helpful and friendly. It was a bit out of the center of things in Rome, but that seemed to be part of its reasonable price, at least in context of Rome.
The hotel's lobby/check-in is on the 5th floor (European counting), 6th floor (American counting), which seemed very odd, but is the way it was. There was a tiny cage-type elevator, though, so if you didn't want to go up all the steps, there was another option. We only used the elevator at check-in during our 7 night stay, so I guess the stairs weren't a complete barrier.
The fantastic included breakfast, served in the room next to the hotel desk, was wonderful and a great way to start the day. Cereal, muesli, good rolls, croissants, juices, coffee, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, meat, and cheese, all in good quantity, got each day off to a good start.
Most of the restaurants in the area (near the Termini) are overpriced tourist traps, but there are lots of good ones elsewhere. And it was an always interesting walk from the hotel to anywhere else. Even though it is a bit off to the side of Rome, it was less than an hour to walk to the Vatican, for example, with lots to see on the way.
We had a great time, and would be happy to stay there again.”
