  • Staff is very nice.
  • Absolutely have to eat out, they will kill you with a bill if you do so.

“Ice cube from the hotel is so dirty, you can get really sick if you use ice from that machine.”

  • It was all nice a great value.
  • They shut the street on Sunday.

“This is an excellent hotel at any price but if you want a beach this is the wrong hotel it is close to shopping across the street from the ocean (no beaches though) I did not go to the casino but it is right there it is built on a Grand scale and beautifully laid out.”

  • Beautiful hotel.
  • They closed the street on Sunday for sports.

“This is an excellent hotel for the money. Anyone thinking it is a beach front should know that it is not. It is right on the ocean but there is no beach there. But it is obviously a beautiful hotel near many other attractions with a friendly staff that Mind their own business. They do not smother you with attention you have to ask.”

  • Few eating options were close by.

“We really enjoyed our stay at the Melia. All of the staff that we encountered was very nice and helpful. If we were in Santo Domingo again, this is where we would stay.”

“The location is excellent for visiting the colonial city and they maintain the building and grounds in excellent condition.”

  • The staff was very nice, the pool was fun and the food was great, the location was o.k but the surrounding restaurants were had very good food.

“The hotel overall was nice. It had everything you could expect and want in a hotel. The pool area was pleasant and the food was great! Nothing over the top about the hotel but very comfortable. A room for internet use was helpful. The location was close to a lot of other restaurants and lots of stores. The staff made it very easy to ask for what you needed and wanted.

“The hotel was located across from the ocean with a main road coming through. We went out to find a place to eat and could not find anything, so we ended up back at the hotel. As any foreign country, English is hard to come by especially the cab drivers. The hotel is nice as long as you don't want to venture out. And definitely don't venture out after dark! I wouldn't not go back because of the hotel, I would not go back. The Colonal Zone (or it's main drag) is not too close to the hotel and you are ambushed by people begging for money. Reminded me of Mexico. If you just want to stay at the hotel, the hotel is nice.”

  • Some rooms where nice but some rooms had dirty windows with tar pads against lower floor windows.
  • Even though check-in was at 3 p.m. I had to wait till 5 p.m. to get a room.

“I had nothing but bad experiences at this hotel. First I had to wait until 5 p.m. to get a room, then the room they gave me had dirty windows with loose roof tar pads up against them.”

  • Spa and work out area was nice.
  • Not a 4 star, not even close to old, rundown, rude employees.

“Perhaps many years ago this property was nice, but it is so rundown that I have a hard time even classifying as a 2 star. Furniture beaten up, two well worn pillows, pitiful bed, pool tiles falling off the wall, shampoo, no conditioner, floor not clean, the list goes on. More like a rundown Ramada Inn in the States. Park across the street was full of trash, beggars, and bums. We were told we would get a complimentary buffet breakfast and then after eating breakfast were told we would have to pay $20 US per person. Quite the racket. Would not recommend it at all! We are experiment travelers and have reasonable expectations for this part of the world in terms of quality. Don't waste your time here.”
