“Would recommend this in a second. The standard room is a bit small, but you can upgrade. When I stated that I was a bit nervous because some of the reviews were not great, they suggested an upgrade. We did not use to gym, but that is available as well. Centrally located, close to everything.”

“Hotel is situated in a very accessible locality close to Central London. It is obvious that a lot of financial investment has been made in modernizing this Hotel, which clearly shows.”

“The hotel was quite comfortable, had an interesting history and the staff was helpful and friendly. It is difficult to give a realistic review of the hotel when the experience of Americans in London right now is so influenced by the weakness of the dollar. Had we chosen to have breakfast in the hotel, for example, it would have cost us $40 each (although they urged us to sign up for a points program that cut that in half). Given that situation, it was a bit galling to have to pay for internet connection at an additional 15 pounds a day. As far as the hotel itself, however, I have no complaints. Rooms were small (narrow), old (but that was interesting) and fairly attractive. Good transportation to other parts of London. Two excellent pubs very near by.”

“Small rooms - less than 18 inches between bed and wall; heard intimate sounds through walls of next door neighbors.”

“The hotel is conveniently located, is very attractive and clean, and room was functional though on the small side, the bed was comfortable. However, the hotel charges 1 pound per minute for local phone calls, which is ridiculously high.”

“I would have given this hotel a much, much higher rating had it not been for two minor, but unacceptable incidents. When we initially arrived at our room, the air conditioning was not working. It was hot outside and although we had plans, we had just arrived from Italy and wanted to relax a bit. Although I called to have the a/c repaired and went to complain in person at the front desk, we eventually left for our appointment and therefore, do not know how long it took for the AC to be repaired. I would normally let that go, but I am a member of Melia MaS rewards with a good deal of points from stays at other hotels and I feel that when we first complained about the A/C, we should have been moved to another room immediately. It is unacceptable that we were made to wait in what was a steaming room. On the second day of our stay, we attempted to use the room internet and could not connect. Further, while we could see all TV channels, we had no access to movies. After we repeatedly told the staff that the television was broken (because they would not believe us at first), they finally sent a repairperson who fixed the problem. In all other respects, this is a great hotel, on the upscale business side, in a central location (tube is right across the street). Our room was on the small side (it would really help if they got flat screen TVs), but manageable. The breakfast, which was not included, was superb although it was $20 per person which might be typical of London, but still shocks Americans.”

“A very nice stay. I really didn't make use of any of the facilities besides the room, but it was nice looking and the staff was very welcoming. The rooms were quite small, with the end of the bed being about 2 feet from the wall, but Londons hotel room are notoriously small. Great bathrooms, nice shower.”

“They should remove the table and put flat screen TV so that they can make use of more floor space in the tiny room.”

“They had my reservation as 2 beds but I opted for a single upon check-in in order to get a no-smoking room. When I saw that it was no bath, I asked for a room with bath and got a run-around. First 30 minute wait to consult with manager, then got a tiny twin bed then complained again and finally got a full bed with a full bath. Staff was not very responsive and left me waiting for a room that they had initially offered me 10 minutes earlier.”

“The media white house was a comfortable, clean, and attractive hotel. The room was nice, but rather small. The front desk manager, however, was extremely rude, and the customer service left much to be desired.”

“Main complaint would be the bar/lounge staff - service was terribly slow - the bar area is very attractive & inviting, but the food/beverage service took so long, it ruined the nice atmosphere. The staff was slow, & did not understand English very well.”

“Newly-renovated, clean and comfortable, the Melia White House exceeded my expectations. It is set back from the busy main street and heavy curtains do a good job darkening out the city lights at night. The lobby is big with doormen and bellhops, though it was always full of smoke from cigarette smokers. While very new, it is decorated in a decadent European style that is classic but does not feel old.”

“Very clean, modern hotel with all amenities including singer accompanied by piano player in the evening. Proximity to underground was very welcome. Street noise was a small inconvenience but could be a problem to a light sleeper. The mini-bar charges at check our were a disappointment but were removed from the bill after I mentioned that I did use the mini-bar. This left an impression especially since the handle to open the mini-bar was broken and I could not use it even if I wanted to.”
