San Francisco Hotel

  • Location.
  • A lot of noise, could not sleep.

“The hotel was very noisy. Even with earplugs we could not sleep. Beds were 2 twins and they were comfortable.”

  • The guy at the front desk called us a cab.
  • The carpet looked like it was straight from an outdoor back porch. No TV remote.

“The room was clean enough. We got clean sheets and towels, but there was no remote control for the TV and the reception was pretty bad. The colors on the walls made the room look depressing and drab. Our view was of the power generator that would strike up and sound like a spaceship was landing right outside our window every 15 minutes.”

  • Location.
  • No A/C or fan.

“This is a great hotel if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of comfort [no A/C or fans] for the greatest location possible in Mexico City. It is close to Metro stops and to the hub in the city. It is also only a ten minute bus ride from the Zona Rosa in which you find most of the city's restaurants.”

  • Sorry nothing good.
  • I did not like the hotel in general; everything was bad with the exemption of two employees.

“The first day they gave an ugly and dirty room and also the smell was terrible in addition around the hotel are in construction many edifices and the noise was insupportable. The first day when I opened the bathroom door the first thing that I saw was a big cockroach was disgusting. I went to speak with somebody in the lobby (in the morning) and the person there was polite and professional and he gave me other room much better but the noise and bad odor was the same. But the terrible thing was that somebody in the hotel stole my souvenirs that I bought in Mexico. I couldn't stay in that's hotel one day more and I left the hotel May 28 and I spent my last nigh in the Hotel Casa Blanca. In general my hotel experience in Mexico was horrible. Thank you.”

  • Excellent location and friendly staff. Hotel is old but clean.
  • Restaurant service was excellent but food was not very good.

“I would recommend this hotel for a budget leisure traveler because of its excellent location, in the historic centre of town. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, despite the fact that I did not speak English. Occasionally an unpleasant smell wafted up through the drain pipes, because the hotel is old, I guess. However, the room was very clean and well maintained. The entire plumbing etc. Worked. The view isn't great; my room looked out on a construction zone, but there wasn't a lot of noise. The serving staff in the restaurant was very friendly. The food was safe -- I didn't get sick -- but it wasn't very good and was, for Mexico city more expensive than it needed to be. The restaurant was, however, very convenient. It was nice to be able to get some food easily after sightseeing and walking all day. Basically, I enjoyed my stay and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends. It was an excellent value.”

  • Convenient location, good price
  • Very basic and old rooms

“The Hotel San Francisco, located about 100 yards from Mexico City's Alameda Central, is a great budget choice. Rooms are of average size and mine included an old but quite comfortable bed, a dresser/desk, and a TV that worked sometimes. The shower was one side of the bathroom and flooded unless all three bathroom drains (including the one outside the shower) were uncovered. Although the furnishings were old, the room was clean. There are two buildings under construction on the block, but they do not work after dark so it did not affect me at all. Like most buildings in Mexico City, the rooms in this hotel have neither heat nor air conditioning; the window opens wide enough to drive a car through if you need fresh air. Housekeeping brings 2 free 500mL bottles of water every day, a nice touch even though authorities in the DF say the tap water is safe to drink. Other than one American tour group and a couple Australians, the vast majority of the hotel's guests were Mexican tourists and groups. If I were the type that spends a good amount of time in my hotel room, I'd look elsewhere, but given the great location and the bargain-basement price, the Hotel San Francisco makes a great base for exploring Mexico City.”

  • The location was great and the price was one of the most affordable.
  • The amenities were scant, no cable TV and a lot of things missing.

“It was a large room but the facility was aged, no cable TV no extras of any kind, no ac and the blankets thin.”

  • Conveniently located in downtown.
  • Not clean, not quite, not cheap, not friendly.

“Not recommended for a business traveler! The price certainly does not match its quality!”
