  • windows that actually opened, breakfast was served quickly, hot and with a smile.
  • blankets not quilts. nowhere to smoke when coming in late.

“the hotel was ideally situated for our visit to the theatre, we were grateful for a parking space. ( our friends who didn't stay over had great trouble parking) It was loverly to be able to throw open a window in our room. (many hotels seem to be hermetic”

  • Location
  • Decor was a bit tired. Bathroom very minimal

“Internal decor is past best and looks tired. Room was ok but bathroom very small and cold. good central location for tourists and ideal location for the Fossgate where good restuarants are located.”

  • Nice and warm, very central fro all amenities in York
  • Water was scalding, street lights made room very bright even with the curtains drawn.

“The hotel was undergoing renovation and re-decoration. We had to be careful to avoid the wet paint. The heating was hot and could not be adjusted in my room. There is no lift in the hotel and there are quite a few stairs up to most of the bedrooms.
The hotel will be much improved when the renovation is completed. Enjoyed the atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and helpful.”

  • close to the centre - easy to find - non smoking rooms

“There was work and extensive hammering going on, until sharp 10 pm. If the refurbishing is done, it will be a lot quiter.”

  • Very friendly staff, excellent location, good food
  • Very tired looking, wallpaper coming off, in urgent need of modernisation

“The hotel wasn't a bad place. It just looked a bit tired. The wallpaper was coming off in the bathroom and the shower really wasn't up to much. Also when the extractor was on in the morning, you could smell the food cooking in the kitchen. Overall I've no complaints about the cleanliness, food, politeness of the staff or location. Looking back, I'm not sure it was worth '150 for 2 nights.”

  • Both the room and the hotel in general were not very clean.

“Both my partner and I felt that the hotel was not as clean as it could have been, we therefore left after only one night (we were booked for 2). We also felt that we should have been told that there was no shower, only an old hand shower to fit onto the sink taps that was black with mould. To cap this our car was blocked in in the car park so that we had to delay our departure by an hour.”

  • quiet room, breakfast excellent
  • typical hotel shower - water first runs too hot then too cold

“situated right in the city centre close too everything that is going on yet quiet and comfortable. Excellent breakfast served every morning but no restaurant for evening dining.”

  • Excellent central location for seeing old York
  • Limited parking available ... but we were aware of this before arrival

“No shower in room we were allocated ... only en-suite bath ... check if you want shower facilities!”
