  • Location was close to the Harbor and downtown.
  • Room was small, and not a good view.

“The overall stay at the hotel was nice. The room was a bit small and I asked for a king bed and got a queen.”

Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[4] • Location:[7]

  • It is close to Darling Harbor.
  • Room looks like a prison cell. Noise early in the morning.

“We have been there 2 nights. The room looked old but big, the bathroom looked old too and not very well cleaned. In the room, there was only a tiny window that made the room like a prison cell. Sunday morning, at 8 am we had to stand the loud music coming from a hotel conference room where people were having some kind of strange religious ceremony.”

  • Location, friendly staff and rooms.

“I stayed in three different rooms in this hotel. One of the rooms was right next to the monorail. However, I barely heard the trains go by.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Convenience to Monorail and Tram and on a bus route.
  • Noisy due to the proximity to the trams Paddy's markets, buses, monorail.

“Excellent value for money. I would have preferred that you give the customer a choice to put in his own price as you do for American hotels.”

  • Staff helped answer all our questions, service to the airport was cheaper than metro, perfect location between Central Station and Darling Harbor.

“Hotel was great. Front desk answered all our questions about the area. Within walking distance to Darling Harbor. Convenient drop-off at the airport.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[3] • Location:[8]

  • The bathroom was very big. The linens were nice.
  • The bellboy showed up after we loaded the bags. Monorail 10' outside window.

“Bellboy was tardy and unhelpful. The check in staff tried to give us an inferior room. We were ultimately given a room on the second floor. The problem with this is the monorail runs at exactly the level of the window, just a few feet from the building so riders can look in. The bathroom sink did not drain. TV remote did not work. Room was nicely decorated and a good size.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[6]

  • Easy walk to Darling Harbor and to public transportation.
  • Room was dark (they're conserving electricity) and next to the monorail.

“The hotel did not meet my expectations. The location was good. It's only a short walk to Darling Harbor and to various forms of public transportation. However, the room itself was very dark. Apparently, the hotel is trying to save energy (which is a good thing) but it was really difficult to read or use the computer in the evening because of the lack of light. Also, the monorail ran literally no more than 6 feet outside the window of the room. So, this added some noise until about 10:30 on weeknights and closer to midnight on weekends. In addition, in-room internet usage cost 55 cents per minute. There was no option to bundle the charges for a day, 3 days, a week, etc. I found that quite expensive. On a positive note, the staff was friendly and the concierge was really helpful.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Comfortable and convenient to harbor attractions.
  • No airport transfers, very expensive continental breakfast.

“Not sure if it was just the particular hotel. We did have to pay a big upgrade fee to get a queen bed.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[9]

  • Great rooms and location.
  • Pricy internet.

“This hotel exceeded my expectations as it was listed as a 3 star and definitely seemed more a 4 star-internet & phone calls were very pricy though.”

  • Location and restaurant/bar facilities.
  • Hallways smelled smokey.

“First room was non-smoking but clearly had been recently smoked in. Desk clerk was very helpful in locating us to nicer (smoke free) room. Nice breakfast with excellent service; nice bar.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[3] • Location:[8]

  • Location to Darhling harbor and transportation.
  • Twin beds.

“I booked the "superior room" at the HI because it was substantially less than other similar hotels. My expectation is that the room would have either one king/queen bed or two doubles. I was wrong! It was two twin beds! In clarifying with the receptionist, she said that two twin rooms were very standard and many people enjoyed them. She had all her arguments lined up, so I'm guessing I'm not the only one surprised by twin beds. I've done a lot of traveling and can't remember the last time I saw twin beds in a room. I feel deceived by Holiday Inn for their claim of a "superior" room. It was more like a "basic" room.”

  • Helpful front office staff, especially concierge.
  • The room could have used some more friendly furniture.

“This hotel is an excellent value. It is clean and well kept and the staff is friendly and helpful. In addition, its location is central to much of Sydneys attractions, or near public transportation.”

  • The location was amazing!
  • Not sure why it was so expensive. I think it was just Sydney prices.

“The hotel staff was pleasant, helped with any questions I had. The location is wonderful! Right behind China town, 5 minute walk to the CBD, 5 minute walk to Darling Harbor! The hotel was going through some renovations while I was there so the restaurants and some other amenities were closed. This should have been reflected in the price of the room but it was not. My hotel room itself was quite big and always very well maintained! Over all I was happy with my experience at this hotel and would stay there again!”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[8] • Location:[5]

  • Price was okay for Sydney.
  • This hotel should be called holiday inn Chinatown - not holiday inn darling harbor.

“The lobby was clean, staff friendly. Hallways and elevators made it feel like a 30 year old apartment building. Rooms are good sized. I thought the rooms were as clean as they could be but the painting, woodwork, and fixtures looked suspect. I know the hotel was going through additions/renovations but the postings in the elevator said they were working during business hours (starting at 8:30 am)- we didn't need alarm clocks as we woke up to the sound of drilling and hammering around 7 am each morning.”

  • Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Always had a smile and was very accommodating.
  • The lighting was very weak in the bathroom, when I put on make-up it was very hard to see well.

“I would recommend it to my friends and family, because it was very easy to get around and very quiet. Never heard any noise at night. It was always kept very clean. If I went back Sydney I would probably stay there again.”
