• Excellent location, good food, comfortable and clean

“I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, my room had obviously been decorated recently and was spotlessly clean. I booked there after reading many positive things, including the website of a family who stayed there last year. If you are used to plastic uniformity and that's your bag then you would be disappointed. If you want character, art, artifacts and so on then you would enjoy this hotel. I found the staff friendly and very helpful, they were happy to help out in the sort of manner you would enjoy at a friend's house. They let me borrow their computer to check my emails (I didn't realize they had a wireless setup so didn't have my PDA with me) and rang travel agencies, taxis and so on for me.”

“I am very surprised by the previous review. I went to Los Alpes based on the information in several reviews including the website of a family who stayed last summer (2004). I thought the location was excellent and we certainly felt safe as the US embassy”

“I really don't understand the previous review. If you want plastic uniformity then go to one of the big chains. If you want a place filled with art and artifacts, an old colonial house with charm and warmth then try this hotel. I enjoyed my stay after seeing it recommended in several places including the website of a family who visited last summer. The room I stayed in had recently been decorated and was spotlessly clean.”

• Excellent location, cozy and friendly, lots of character

“I can't believe the review I've just read! I'd seen an account of the hotel on someone's website and wasn't disappointed. My room was recently decorated and spotlessly clean. It's not one of the high tech plastic hotels with electronic card locks on the doors. The place is full of antique furniture, art-work and so on. I found the staff to be helpful and friendly, they organized a couple of trips out of Quito and looked after our luggage for us. Some of the other guests were staying in a suite with their own living room!

• good location, quiet neighborhood
• OLD - musty, damp and smelly inside with old carpet and unfriendly service

“I stayed here in March 2005 and had a very negative experience. If I had been paying $5/night, I would have been fine, but instead I was paying $40!!! everything about the hotel was old, musty and in desperate need of a makeover.”
