“Lovely hotel in Kensington with excellent staff and the quality rooms you would expect from a Hilton.”

  • Location excellent and staff was very pleasant and helpful.
  • The beds were
not comfortable--foam on wooden slates & no towel warmer.

“Hotel is in excellent location. One can walk to many cafes and shops. The Tube was close. Staff was most helpful and friendly. Cybercafe was excellent. There were no unpleasant surprises--upon request the rooms were what we wanted bed-wise and a bit early.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[7] • Location:[9]

  • Close to tube stop and Hilton.
  • Small room (but understandable since its London).

“We really liked the location of this hotel. It was convenient because it was easy to reach from the airport using public transportation. The concierge service was very accommodating and held our baggage since check in. The neighborhood seemed very nice and safe to walk around even at late hours. The coffee shops, restaurants and convenience store were all within walking distance of the hotel.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[3] • Location:[8]

  • The location.
  • The charges for a phone call, poor AC, and bill confusion.

“This is a good location, and the rooms are nice, but the staff was either harried or distracted, for they triple-charged my friend for the airport shuttle, got confused about the mini-bar, and failed to fix the AC.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • It had air conditioning.
  • 10 minute walk to the underground.

“It had elegance and it was large. It didn't feel like you were in a hotel in London but one in America. It was a good stay for the last night before we went home.”

  • The concierge was fabulous.
  • It was not in overly convenient for public transport.

“The hotel was sufficient in every matter, but I would not have rated it as a 4-star hotel, but more of a 3-star hotel. It is very much your ordinary US standard hotel, which is perhaps 4-star in London?”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[7] • Location:[10]

  • Great neighborhood.
  • Room was much smaller than expected.

“The Hilton Kensington has a great location close to many shops, restaurants and quiet back streets. Also handy to London bus and underground routes. Having stayed at other Hiltons in Europe, I was expecting a somewhat larger room. The bathroom was especially small. The shower reflected British plumbing and was difficult to control. The room was smaller than some cruise ship cabins we've been in. Otherwise, the teakettle was nice and the room was very well equipped. Though when we inquired about bathrobes, we were curtly informed that they were only available to executive floor customers.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[3]

  • Clean and comfortable.
  • Would have liked a refrigerator. Use of internet was extremely expensive.

“Was quite far from the city. It took almost an hour to get to the city on the tube from there. Not a lot of restaurants close by.”

  • Staff, clean, value, location, area, almost everything!
  • Promised a king bed with a street facing view. Got a queen with an awful view.

“We stayed at this hotel for the first 3 nights of our Honeymoon and ended up booking it again after going to Greece for the last night on our way home. The staff made every effort to ensure our stay was outstanding and it was. It was in a fantastic area of London and a short walk to a quieter stop on the Tube System. Would go back and stay there any time I visit London.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[7] • Location:[5]

  • 24-hour Concierge.
  • Small. No fan in bathroom.

“The room and bathroom were smaller than Americans would expect for a 4-star hotel. We had requested non-smoking, but ended up on a smoking floor. 24-hour concierge can arrange anything for you, but there were no brochures available for self-study (to decide which items to put on our sightseeing list). The bathroom had no fan and the door was spring-loaded, so we had to use a trash can to prop it open to clear the steam.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Location was close to train/bus.
  • No top sheet on beds, had to request clean washcloths or would not get them.

“Great hotel for the price! Front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating when I asked to check in early (before noon). Very convenient to train (about 5 blocks) and bus stopped right in front of hotel. The room was a bit small, but pretty typical for London (but who waste their time in the room when in London?!). My only complaints: Beds didn't have top sheets (but nice comforters and pillows), we had to specifically ask for washcloths each day, and food/internet access were extremely expensive. But overall, the hotel was great.”

Cleanliness:[5] • Staff:[9] • Location:[1]

  • Nice lobby, good concierges.
  • Worst, smallest, least frills hotel room I have ever stayed in.

“In my opinion, the hotel lobby, bar, restaurant and staff were 4 star, very nice. In my opinion, the specific room I stayed in was 1 star, a small room, no view, small limited channel TV mounted high on the wall, bathroom sink area and tub/shower were old, dingy, cracked, no dead bolt on door, furthest possible walk from the elevator, toilet difficult to flush, bathroom door difficult to close. I can't speak to whether or not the other hotel rooms are better, since I didn't see any other rooms.”

  • Room was nicely appointed with plenty of amenities.
  • It was London and the room and bed were too small for true comfort.

“Nice hotel for the most part. Had room upgraded which included executive lounge, which was very nice. However, the floor we were on was under renovation and smelled of paint. It was our first experience at a European hotel so was surprised at the size of the room (tiny) but it was mostly positive (other than trying to sleep in a double bed with my 6'7" husband). Staff was very congenial and helpful. However, I don't believe this would be considered a 4-star hotel in the US.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[7] • Location:[7]

  • Clean, quiet, professional staff, nice cocktail lounge, frees UK papers.
  • Internet and phone charges are extortionate. Room size doable but smallish.

“I'd give the Hilton Kensington a b-plus. My room was comfortable, clean, and bright, though definitely on the small side. Water pressure of the shower was a total joke, barely more than a trickle. If you have the time, take baths instead. Fluffy towels are provided, but no bathrobe. The room is outfitted with a hair dryer, iron and board, minibar (you can't use it for your own beverages because it's full, and removing anything triggers an automatic charge to your hotel bill), a generous safe that holds a 17-inch PowerBooks, a flat screen TV (fairly poor quality signal and set to the wrong aspect ratio, no way for guests to change it), radio alarm clock, two phones (one of which had an intolerable buzz on it). No available outlets: had to unplug a lamp to alternately charge my laptop and cell phone. Will hotels never learn? No paper(s) delivered to the room by default, but you can pick them up for free (the times and the financial times, at least) in the lobby on your way out. Health club is free to guests but astoundingly small. On the other hand, Id forgotten my razor and the Hilton cheerily provided one free of charge. Internet is 15 British pounds a day, which comes close to blackmail. One day it didn't work for hours straight, I spent 20 minutes on three phone calls trying to get a refund (which was ultimately provided). Cleaning staff took my pillow -- the one I bring on my trips -- and I had to raise hell to get it back (a day later). And the hotel shut the water off for seven hours one night, though this was announced in advance and they sent a couple of bottles of mineral water to my room when I requested it, no charge. The rooms have no wireless internet so you have to use the Ethernet cable the hotel provides.”

  • Location.
  • Teeny tiny rooms, expensive food.

“Wonderful location for West of London access and for Heathrow. Close to Notting Hill and Portobello Road. Tube is just a ten minute stroll away. Rooms are small even though the hotel isn't in central London. Dining at the hotel is very expensive and not good value. Lots of good places to eat locally.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[7] • Location:[9]

  • The hotel was located in a beautiful and safe area of Kensington.
  • The room was outdated and musty - definitely not four star!

“The hotel is located in a beautiful and safe area, but that is the best that can be said for it. The room decor was outdated and had a heavy musty smell. The room rate was very reasonable, but most services were over-priced ($40 for breakfast, etc.) This is fine for business travelers who plan to expense their trip, but I would advise leisure travelers to look elsewhere. Our stay at the Marriott was far more enjoyable and a much better value. This particular Hilton would not meet four star standards in the United States. We were disappointed that this location did not match the reputation of the Hilton chain.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[1] • Location:[1]

  • It had walls, doors, and windows; concierge was friendly and apologetic for staff.
  • Long delay in getting room, very inhospitable front desk, poor location.

“I will never stay at the Hilton Kensington again. The rooms were marginal (construction going on in the room above as we tried to sleep following a transatlantic redeye), staff at front desk was the anti-host.”
