“Very handy for the tube to get into central London and very inexpensive compared to the usual rate for London, however the hotel is old and the room was depressing. I was on a exploratory business trip and cost was a priority and this certainly hit that requirement.”

  • Style and comfort provided.
  • It would have been ideal to have been able to enjoy an evening meal in the hotel

“Overall a very happy experience. It would have been an added benefit to have been able to eat within the hotel in the evening but other than that everything was superb.”

  • The staff was friendly and helpful, the room attractive and comfortable, the neighborhood quiet.
  • Shower stall was extremely small; even with discount the price is quite high (typical for London?).

“Very pleasant stay; we felt welcome and the staff gave out helpful information. The second room, however, although having a better bathroom, was quite small. The floors were creaky, though we didn't seem to hear the people above us. Late breakfasters were made to wait for an available table. I would have liked to have more information about the rooms: the main room (with the tiny shower) was in fact a triple; this possibility did not show up in the rooms list. The rate is still a bit high but it's probably NOT expensive if compared to rates at similar quality hotels in London. I would stay there again.”

  • Quiet & homely. comfortable lounge. 11am check out good
  • Very limited parking but the hotel staff were very accomodating - I parked in the street for the night - then moved into the hotel car park in the morning at 9am (only 3 places available), however I realise parking is difficult in the area.

“Brilliant stay - very enjoyable - excellent service - excellent breakfast”

  • Close proximity to undeground station and Central London
  • Room was in basement - which wasn't completely unsatisfactory but was a little noisy.

“The hotel was an adquate, clean and generally friendly 'motel' quality stop over. Breakfast was buffet style, with unlimited full English and Continental choices, and was very nice, with the staff being friendly and helpful.

The room struck me as being a little small for a 'superior' but seeing as it was a single, and had a double bed, I will give the hotel the benefit of the doubt, although I quite believe other rooms could have been small, as stated in other reviews. As my stay was in December, air conditioning was not an issue, but the hotel was warm and in summer the lack of such equipment could be a problem.

However, if you are looking for a tourist class hotel, with mod-cons but no frills, located not far from the city centre (West End - 15 mins max on tube with one interchange at Green Park) or in the Hampstead area, then I have no reasons not to suggest this hotel on the basis of my stay, so long as the price was right (I wouldn't pay more than '70 a night).

Other tips would be to buy a Zones 1 and 2 travelcard if you plan to travel in Central London and at '4.30, you can have unlimited travel on the tube, covering all the major sites, and probably saving a lot of money. Also, the half price ticket booths in Leicester Square can offer good value for money on last minute tickets, even if you just get a tenner off full price. Just make sure you ask up front for the full price, including any booking fees, and ask where you are sitting (including what number in the row as it can be as significant as the row).

The hotel is less than a minutes walk from Swiss Cottage underground station and the same distance from the Hampstead Theatre.

Hope this was helpful.”

  • I liked the big windows with fresh air, lighting was good.House keeping and other staff was very polite.
  • Very limited channels on tv ,no shower curtains ,sink was too small and in a very small corner, bad was having exposed springs and wrongly placed in a corner .

“it would have been nice if i had some in house movies to relax in evenning after a long hard day at seminar.”

  • all reception staff looked like they needed training. Mix up over my room, which they dealt with, after much debate with each other. looked like they needed a good Manager for assistance

“overall the staff were friendly and helpful, room was fine- although the hotel itself was very hot and my first impression was not a good one. The reception area smelt very strongly of cigerette smoke, and the heating was too high.
apart from that i enjoyed my stay and would stay there again.”

  • very comfortable and clean, friendly staff, good breakfast, excellant information on restaurants and local sites.
  • there was nothing we did not like.

“As I was staying after eye surgery this was just the kind of quiet hotel we were looking for, there was no pressure to join in or sit in the lounge or bar area if you did not want too. and security was very good. I would thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel.”
