“Great location and very helpful front desk staff. Some annoying deficits (shower didn't work, light bulbs out), but overall comfortable.”

“Older grand hotel on Dam Square. Staff was prompt, helpful and friendly. Our room was large, fairly newly renovated, with a high ceiling and a large washroom with separate shower and bathtub. It was located towards the front of the hotel but without a good view. Asked for an iron and ironing board and it arrived in less than 5 minutes. Concierge was helpful. We had a fantastic one night stay for a great price.”

“For the Priceline price, it was a great location and pleasant hotel. It is not 5-Star by any means.”

“This is an excellent place to stay. Its right on Dam square and really close to the Red Light District. The hotel rooms were not that small compared to others in the area and the bathroom was really big. The staff was really friendly and the food was great..eventhough it was 22 euro. I would definitely recommend this hotel!!”

“I requested a room with a view and one bed for my 6 day stay. A lovely lady at the front desk, Monica, I believe, searched a long time to meet my request and met it beautifully. The Lounge restaurant was nice and I loved the tomato soup. The Concierge was very helpful. All in all a wonderful trip. Everyone at the hotel was polite.”

“A very large room by US standards, very basic furnishings, motel quality linens and average service. We clearly stated that we wanted a non-smoking room when we made our reservation; however, it seems that the staff defines smoking and non-smoking rooms by whether or not the guests in the room at that time smoke. Not only was our room a smoking room, but it was located off of a small ante room that was setup for smoking conference attendees. Just walking to the room was like walking through an ashtray. When I went to the front desk to request something be done about our room, the clerk's comment was "What do you want me to do about it?" Not exactly the level of service one would expect from a five star hotel. This is clearly a hotel that could do with an express check-out - especially since this is clearly a convention destination and they have large groups of people checking in and out at the same time. Although they did have several clerks staffing the front desk when we checked out, there was no organization of the lines and people generally ignored any sort of queuing. There are a number of restaurants in the hotel, but based on what we saw and heard from other guests, they are very expensive and not that good. Fortunately, there are plenty of choices in the area that are more reasonably priced and serve better food. Location. It is located right on The Dam which makes it within a block or two of the tram stops to the museums, train station and other locations. In addition, it is just about a block to the Red Light District and on the same street.”

“I used to live in Amsterdam and I know the Krasnapolsky hotel. It has a good reputation. I was slightly disappointed when we checked into our room. The room is old and outdated but it does have a LCD TV. When we first walked into our room, I didn't see the bathroom right away. This was because the bathroom had closet doors, which didn't lock. The bed was pretty comfortable, but the linens had some tears/holes.”

“We forgot our passport in the room safe and the hotel staff retrieved it and sent it to us in airport. They went out of way to assist us. We will be sure to stay with then when next in Amsterdam.”

“The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in at 8am. We had only stopped by to see if we could drop off luggage until check in time and they offered us the opportunity to check in instead. This was fantastic since we had just taken a red eye flight over there from the US. The room was also rather nice except for the thin walls. The location could also not be beat. Considering it was on such a busy square our room did not have any traffic noise. It was a GREAT hotel and i would stay there again.”

“I understand the economic times are poor, therefore staff must be cut, however 2 receptionists at peak time is insufficient, and the long wait took time away from my vacation. I would certainly never stay at this hotel again (unless it's very cheap) based upon this poor service.”

“I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It was in a central location and very easy to get around to any area of town. The service was excellent, everyone was very willing to help out or provide information.”

“We stayed at NH Grand hotel Krasnapolsky, we saw a rat running in the room at 11:30 pm., the front desk's excuse was Amsterdam is building metro! I don't think it is acceptable for a five star hotel. The inside of the room furniture and decorations are no better than a regular 2 star US hotel. Carpet is very old, shower water kept going extremely hot or cold. Even it is a good burgeon the hotel can offer, but it has a reason! people would regret after staying there. This hotel is at great location, and from outside it is a nice historical building, but the management need to spend some money on renovations and upgrades! It is needed! What a pity!”

“The room was only so so and small. Parking for guests was $50.00. The hotel front of the hotel is located in Dam Square and back the Red Light Quarter, not a place to bring kids. Also, the hotel was distant from the main/public transportation.”

“Internet cost 22 euros a day, with is way too expensive.”

“Location was great, staff was friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom were spacious enough, but needs serious updates. Would also be nice if hotel included free Wi-Fi. Beds were reasonably comfortable. Carpet was stained in the room and some common areas, and the elevator area stunk of a dead animal, not very appealing.” Amenities at Nh Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky, Amsterdam
