“Though recently renovated, the workmanship is sloppy. Carpet is jagged and does not meet the tiling of the bathroom area. The location leaves a lot to be desired, as it is south of many of the good beaches and dining alternatives. The VOG (caused by the volcano) created cloud cover daily after at 11 am limiting pool time. Though kids don't mind.”

“For a 4 star resort -- I must say I'm not impressed with the Sheraton Keaouhe Bay at all! It is more like a 3 star hotel. The room is borderline old and is in need of renovation. Husband and I tried the in room coffee maker for 4 days in a row and each time the coffee comes out tasting like dirt!? Perhaps it's because the coffee was way too old and they didn't get new packages.”

“Overall a decent hotel. The grounds are very well maintained, but the interior is dated and could use could a good cleaning.”

“Beautiful location, but you need a car to get around the island. Not close to the town, but a shopping mall was about a mile away. Very quiet, very helpful staff. I would definitely go back.”

“This is a beautiful hotel! The pool is amazing and poolside service was really good. The grounds are beautiful. It was very relaxing to walk around and take in the scenery. It's off the beaten path but close enough to many things if you have a car. They also have a shuttle that makes the rounds to the shopping centre and surrounding area. It is very family friendly but there are enough quiet areas if you are traveling without children. The luau is amazing and definitely worth doing. I would definitely stay here again.”

“Very attractive hotel dramatically set on the coast with volcanic rock all around. No beach. Common areas are all very well kept. Pool area is very well done. Room was clean and good size. Parking is ridiculously expensive ($9 plus tax for self parking). The night-time manta ray show is not great since it's difficult to see them very well. Overall, very positive experience.”

“Clean with a very good staff, rooms were average for a resort of this type but seeing the manta rays for hours on end (from our lanai!) was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The grounds are nice; pool is nice but not spectacular. It is a bit of a distance from Kona, which is too bad, and no sand beach or opportunity to snorkel, though those are nearby for those "in the know.”

“The location is good unless you are looking for a beach on site. Fixtures were falling off the walls. There was no room service menu in the room and when requested, it took 45 minutes to get the menu. I asked three of the staff members for simple directions and general questions and they could not even say "I don't speak English". You would think they would have a backup generator but the power was out for over two hours the first night of my stay. No air conditioning or lights in the whole hotel. Very dangerous for the guests.”

“Nice hotel. Tends to nickel and dime you for extra services that other 5-star hotels provide as part of the service (parking and internet kiosk) Non-guests can park for free - but its $9 / night for guests of the hotel. Tacky. Otherwise - great place to stay.”

“If it was not so far away, you would see us every year! We remember many very friendly staff members, however, can only name one very charming and hard working person. Ideal for someone who doesn't need a sand beach.”

“Parking is convenient if you select valet service otherwise you have to hoof it quite a distance, especially late at night when the parking lot fills up. First you have the hotel, then the valet service parking lot, and then the self-parking area. Self-parking is $9.00 per day; valet service is $13.00 day plus tip. So for an extra $4-6 per day you can have your car waiting for you outside the front lobby on the second floor. We did self-parking for the first five days and I'm the one who had to park the car, load up with souvenirs, and walk back to the hotel each night. After a while it got pretty old - especially when one night I got caught in the rain. Also, once you've reached the hotel, you're not done as the hotel is spacious and you will probably have to walk quite a distance to get to your room. The last couple of days I crumbled and went with the valet service. My recommendation is that you spend the extra $4-6 each day for valet service, and pity the others who you will see dragging themselves (and their belongings) up the car ramp to the second floor of the hotel. You probably spent a lot of money to get to Hawaii - so your time (and your convenience) has a value to it. If I had to do it over again I would have opted for valet service from day one, at least at this hotel. Arriving at the hotel, assuming you got a rental which is practically a must if you plan to do much sight-seeing - you arrive on the second floor on the aforementioned car ramp - being careful not to run over the aforementioned self-parkers. You might consider skipping the bellman to take your own luggage to your room until you realize that the luggage carts are available only to hotel employees. Yes you are trapped, have the bellman deliver your luggage and pay him, you struggled enough with.”

“This hotel was okay. It is an older hotel but was clean. The room was comfortable. Parking was not especially convenient and they charged $9 a night self parking even though the lot was not full. It is a parking lot for the beach. Why charge guests? They didn't warn me about the parking charge in advance.”

“I really enjoyed my stay. I would have loved to stay longer, but I had split vacation into half on the Kona-Kahluai side and half on the Hilo side. Next time I will probably just stay at the Sheraton for my whole trip.”
