  • They upgraded my room to an ocean view, free of charge.
  • Difficult to find from airport. Bathrooms could use a little modernization.

“Very comfortable and overall pleasant experience. Well worth the money.”

  • Seeing the manta rays was amazing.
  • Would have liked to have an outdoor breakfast area.

“Clean with a very good staff, rooms were average for a resort of this type but seeing the manta rays for hours on end (from our lanai!) was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The grounds are nice; pool is nice but not spectacular. It is a bit of a distance from Kona, which is too bad, and no sand beach or opportunity to snorkel, though those are nearby for those "in the know.”

  • The pool was the best thing they had going for them.
  • Run down room, numerous staff did not speak English.

“The location is good unless you are looking for a beach on site. Fixtures were falling off the walls. There was no room service menu in the room and when requested, it took 45 minutes to get the menu. I asked three of the staff members for simple directions and general questions and they could not even say "I don't speak English". You would think they would have a backup generator but the power was out for over two hours the first night of my stay. No air conditioning or lights in the whole hotel. Very dangerous for the guests.”

  • Great location. Good pool area. Nice rooms.
  • $9 parking for guests for each night. Non-guest can park for free. Did not have a free internet kiosk to check in for flights.

“Nice hotel. Tends to nickel and dime you for extra services that other 5-star hotels provide as part of the service (parking and internet kiosk) Non-guests can park for free - but its $9 / night for guests of the hotel. Tacky. Otherwise - great place to stay.”

  • The place, the garden, the swimming pools, the landscape and the climate.
  • You might add Yoghurt, fresh breads and fruit.

“If it was not so far away, you would see us every year! We remember many very friendly staff members, however, can only name one very charming and hard working person. Ideal for someone who doesn't need a sand beach.”

  • Excellent.
  • Self parking at $9.00 is both expensive and inconvenient since it is located at a great distance from the hotel.

“Parking is convenient if you select valet service otherwise you have to hoof it quite a distance, especially late at night when the parking lot fills up. First you have the hotel, then the valet service parking lot, and then the self-parking area. Self-parking is $9.00 per day; valet service is $13.00 day plus tip. So for an extra $4-6 per day you can have your car waiting for you outside the front lobby on the second floor. We did self-parking for the first five days and I'm the one who had to park the car, load up with souvenirs, and walk back to the hotel each night. After a while it got pretty old - especially when one night I got caught in the rain. Also, once you've reached the hotel, you're not done as the hotel is spacious and you will probably have to walk quite a distance to get to your room. The last couple of days I crumbled and went with the valet service. My recommendation is that you spend the extra $4-6 each day for valet service, and pity the others who you will see dragging themselves (and their belongings) up the car ramp to the second floor of the hotel. You probably spent a lot of money to get to Hawaii - so your time (and your convenience) has a value to it. If I had to do it over again I would have opted for valet service from day one, at least at this hotel. Arriving at the hotel, assuming you got a rental which is practically a must if you plan to do much sight-seeing - you arrive on the second floor on the aforementioned car ramp - being careful not to run over the aforementioned self-parkers. You might consider skipping the bellman to take your own luggage to your room until you realize that the luggage carts are available only to hotel employees. Yes you are trapped, have the bellman deliver your luggage and pay him, you struggled enough with.”

  • The pool was nice.
  • Older hotel, not overly friendly staff.

“This hotel was okay. It is an older hotel but was clean. The room was comfortable. Parking was not especially convenient and they charged $9 a night self parking even though the lot was not full. It is a parking lot for the beach. Why charge guests? They didn't warn me about the parking charge in advance.”

  • Valet, the views, the gardens, restaurant, everything.
  • The beach wasn't in walking distance, but there is a shuttle that will take you.

“I really enjoyed my stay. I would have loved to stay longer, but I had split vacation into half on the Kona-Kahluai side and half on the Hilo side. Next time I will probably just stay at the Sheraton for my whole trip.”

  • The staff was very friendly and the resort was very beautiful.
  • The only thing I didn't ice was that when we went to our room, the carpet was wet. I guess they just cleaned the carpet and didn't let it fully dry.

“The resort was beautiful and all the staff were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much.”

  • Very friendly and helpful.
  • The hotel was great but the spa was rude.

“We were very happy with the hotel and view we had, people with the hotel were very friendly and helpful, but the spa was not. Someone arrange a spa treatment with them for us but, we did not know about it. They would not work with us at all. They left a voice mail on our hotel phone with no number to call back to and were very rude when I did get hold of them. Not business like at all. I would not recommend the spa, because of there attitude.”

  • Front desk, valet & concierge service great.
  • Very over priced - limited and slow service in pool and food area.

“Very over priced. Limited service in the pool and food areas. Very slow or nonexistent. The front desk area was great. I would not spend this kind of money again on such a resort.”
