• The manager was willing to take care of the problems we encountered.
• The moldy smell at the front door and the rudest desk clerk I've ever met.

“The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. They claim to be pet friendly, but want to charge you $75/night to keep your pet.”

• Clean, comfortable beds. In-room kitchenette. DVD player.
• No housekeeping was ever done in the two days we were there.

“For the money this is the place to go. Beds were clean and comfortable and the rooms had kitchenettes. Room itself was cleaned and didn't creep me out wondering what type of nastiness had happened in there prior. Seemed like more of an apartment than a hotel room.”

• The pantry where you could buy ammenities.
• We did not expect and extended stay room--our daughter came in from college to meet us and had to sleep on the floor because all rooms have one bed.

“If this is what you are looking for the extended stay room was very nice.”

• Clean, comfortable and conveniently located.
• Scratchy towels.

“We stayed here during a weekend trip, and enjoyed it very much. The room was clean and comfortable; it had full cable TV and in-room coffee. The only downside was that we had business on the southeast side of town, and this hotel is on the far west side. Overall, a great experience.”

• Sidewalk was icy.

• The location was easy to get to and I could take a long walk without encountering much traffic.
• Room was not a suite. It was a basic room.

“I was expecting more from this room. It was a queen size bed that was very small by most standards. I did like the fact that TV had a DVD/VCR in it so we could watch movies. The recliner was not as comfortable as it could have been. The shower was nice. Warm and just the right height. Overall I liked the bathroom and that there was a microwave and refrigerator (although the ice maker went off every 10 minutes). Overall a 6 out of 10.”

• Extremely convenient, friendly staff, nice room.
• Somewhat small room, but kitchen was really nice.

“We really were impressed with the staff, facilities, and room. The room had a full kitchen with all the utensils needed for preparing meals in the room. Loved the movie library available and big bathroom and full size fridge and freezer with ice maker- no need to leave the room! Enjoyed our stay there.”

• The feeling of home and cleanliness.
• Would put ovens in the rooms.

“I loved this hotel! It will be the new place that I stay when traveling to Des Moines once a month. It is very cute. I love the prices in the cupboard; they don't try to take every penny that you have. It is very reasonable; they know people have to travel. Customer service from staff, priceless! Thanks for a great stay and many more to come.”

• Kitchen facilities. The Honors grocery store.
• No pool or sauna.

“Thirty minutes after I arrived, the office called to see if everything was ok, the work out center, laundry, honors grocery store. How trusting! News papers every am. Three quarters kitchen. Full size refrigerator with ice maker. Close to shopping and restaurants. I will definitely stay there again. I have already recommended staying there to my friends.”

• Very friendly helpful staff. It was very nice to have a small convenience store in the hotel.
• They only had rooms with one bed. We could not get two beds.

“This was a very nice friendly clean hotel. It had many conveniences such as laundry facilities, exercise room, convenience store inside the hotel, and free movie check out. The room was nice and large.”

• The hotel is near the interstate which made it easy to get to places.
• There is no pool. You only get a queen size bed which makes traveling with children difficult. They were unwilling to give us a room with a pull out.

“This motel would be much better if it was child friendly. If you are traveling for business it would be fine. It is nice they have a stove and refrigerator. It has no pool and the rooms do not allow for children.”

“We found this hotel to be perfectly located in a safe area around many dining and shopping attractions. This hotel was extremely basic with no extra amenities. It was obviously designed for business travelers, but that was fine with us.”

• The amenities: kitchen, "cupboard" (with food available for supper and breakfast), plus the honor system and the helpfulness of the staff.
• Could use mirror above table (for women putting on make-up); also it would be nice to have a luggage rack available.

“My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Candlewood Suites, West Des Moines. We were especially pleased with the kitchen and extra amenities since it was our anniversary when we arrived but we wanted to stay close by the motel since my husband was not feeling well.”

• Friendly, clean, convenient location to shopping and interstate.
• Only 1 bed in each room, 2 beds for 4 people (2 rooms) no cots, slept on floor.

“Excellent hotel for the business person or married couple staying a few days. The hotel was excellent, I just couldn't afford another $200 plus dollars so we could each have our own bed.”
