“Hotel is somewhat dingy and definitely needs a facelift. Very, very outdated.”

“This is a nice, bustling hotel in Midtown East. Friendly staff at front desk, nice bar off the lobby, with seemingly lots of international travelers. Rooms in the back are quiet and are decorated nicely in a modern fashion, although the bathrooms/infrastructure is of an older hotel. Excellent for short, business stays, close to everything and convenient.”

“Rooms were fairly spacious for NYC and had some charm and character. Staff was friendly. Very comfy bed; slept great both nights. We had a good experience and would recommend this hotel to a friend, this was a good value for NYC.”

“I loved the atmosphere of this hotel. It had all of the amenities and luxuries of a hotel, but with the cozy community feel of a bed and breakfast or hostel. Great location and right in midtown. I highly recommend it!”

“I was pleasantly surprised by the Roger Smith Hotel. I had never heard of it and was apprehensive at first. However, the room was adorable, kind of like British Country style, and very clean. The hotel has a small intimate feel. I found the lobby amusing with the display of the owner's collection of paintings of the old West. I would describe this hotel as quirky and unique, and that's a complement!”

“
I stayed at this hotel on the 19th & 20th April 2009. It was a last minute booking made through priceline.com. My priority was to find a reasonably priced hotel close to Central Station. The Roger Smith Hotel met and exceeded by expectations in every way. It is convenient to everything and offers excellent accommodation.

“Located in a very convenient, and safe area traveling was definitely easier and much more fun. The hotel is decorated in funky modern art which gave it a very New York feel. The staff was very accommodating since we arrived 2 hours before check in and we were able to store bags downstairs as we traveled around the city. Great experience and I can not wait to go back.”

“I was traveling with my husband and in-laws. We had separate rooms but the staff upon check in made sure we were on the same floor, which made it easier to coordinate with them. The rooms were typical of a small independently run hotel. Small lobby, but that is not that important to me. The rooms were clean, but did get hot at night. They had a thermostat in the room that didn't seem to control the temp very well, but it was not so much of a problem as I was never motivated to complain.”

“This is a groovy hotel convenient to many NY attractions. Each room is uniquely decorated, there is interesting art on display and the staff was friendly. The one downside was a weak Internet signal. I couldn't access the WiFi from the desk but could from the bed.”

“This was a great hotel. The rooms each have a a different decor, which makes it feel like a bed and breakfast in the middle of the city. The service was very warm and friendly, and very professional. Case in point, the first room we checked into had some problems with the heat, so they immediately sent someone from maintenance up. After spending about 10 minutes trying to fix it, he determined it would be better for us to switch rooms, which they did immediately and with apologies, moving us into another suite.”

“Quaint nicely located, small hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. They could stand to update the furnishings and pay a bit more attention to detail but overall a very safe, comfortable place to stay.”

“Very friendly staff. Lounge/ restaurant was an attractive intimate place, I didn't eat there but it looked good. Room decor was from the seventies, old TV, Old furnishings, but clean. I guess this is typical of most NYC hotels.”

“This is a great find in a superb location. If old world charm and colonial style furniture make you comfortable, this place is recommended. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Lily's, the restaurant downstairs, had great food with a nice staff as well. I was pleasantly surprised with this experience. I definitely want to stay there again.”
