“Fantastic location right near Central Park and Museum of Natural History. They upgraded us to a 2 room suite at no extra charge. Lots of nice restaurants nearby. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.”

“Overall, we were pleased with the hotel. The staff was pleasant. The room was comfortable (we were given an upgrade at no extra charge). The bathroom was a little crowded, but adequate. Free coffee would have been nice. There is no parking at the hotel, but they did have an arrangement with the Museum of Natural History across the street. The only real problem had to do with the elevators. When we arrived, one was out of service and it had not been repaired by the time we checked out. Additionally, the other elevator was out of service briefly on the day we checked out. There was a service elevator available at that time.”

“This is a great hotel if you want to be close to Central Park. It was the perfect location for me to attend the concert on the Great Lawn.”

“Check in was seamless and went off without a hitch. When asked about the hotel restaurant we were informed that they did not provide room service. We were given a handful of menus of nearby restaurants that deliver. Definitely a turn off! However, the hotel offers a hot breakfast on the 2nd floor. Not sure why they offer one and not the other. Upon exiting the elevator we were met by a hallway of mattresses. The hotel was changing over all its bedding. They could have done so at a less obtrusive time for guests. We asked the bellman as well as two members of management to fill the ice bucket (only two ice machines on floors 3 and 11). All 3 informed us that they were not equipped to handle that request. WHAT?! Next, we called maintenance because the AC wasn't properly cooling the room. The unit was so close to the 2nd bed that you froze all night long in order to adequately cool the room. Finally, the bathroom was tiny. There was no space to place toiletries. The hotel is quaint and the room was clean.”

“Arrived at the hotel and was greeted by a friendly doorman. The front desk staff was very efficient, and I was in my room within 5 minutes of entering the hotel building. The suite was clean and had a certain charm to it. Highly recommend.”

“This is an attractive hotel ideally located 1 block from central park and across from the museum of natural history. I would have been disappointed had I paid their published rate, it was a very good value. We had other family members staying there as well, and they found a mouse in their room. They were moved to another room where the ac didn't work. The hotel did their best to be accommodating, but needs to step up their level of service to earn more stars.”

“The help seems more bothered by guests than interested in helping. There are full time doormen who never seem to want to help with bags and a concierge that is never present or able to answer questions when he is there. The one exception was the night crew who helped us to get extra blankets. We were woken up by a mouse in our room so even though the city noise is ok the mouse kept us awake. Very poor experience.”

“The excelsior is a very nice hotel for visitors to New York, just across the street from the museum, 200 yards from central park, nice neighborhood all around the hotel, rooms were not tiny, they were clean and stocked, what more do you need? The room is for sleeping and relaxing. It's good for that. Good hotel, great location, good price, recommend for families, sightseers, regular people.”

“This hotel is adequately clean although the lack of a blanket between the comforter and sheet was disappointing. Hotel staff actually seem to take note of the do not disturb sign which is not always a given.”

“I highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting to enjoy New York city but don't want to spend a fortune. We got a nice, clean room in the back of the hotel. The room was a bit small but we didn't spend a lot of time there. The bathroom was exceptionally clean with great water pressure. The hotel is on the upper West Side and is 1/2 block off the park. There were restaurants, cafe's coffee houses on Columbus and the Museum of National History is right across the street. We will definitely stay there again when we return to New York.”

“This hotel is in a great location next to central park and well situated for jaunts to the south, north and east of Manhattan. The room we had had a nice view of the benches and the park next to the Natural history museum and were bright, cheery, and reasonably priced. The surrounding area has good and interesting restaurants.”

“Great location for central park and the museum of Natural history. Parking for the hotel is at the museum. The hotel has an older, elegant "old Manhattan" feel to it. Slow moving and busy elevators, the rooms were a little noisy (ours was next to the elevator). The desk clerk was cold and didn't seem to want to budge about changing the room until I got a little upset. ”

“Overall, my wife and I had a great time in NYC and the excelsior was beautiful and extremely clean. The room was a good size and the bathroom as well. Bed was comfortable. For someone with business in midtown, this is a bit out of the way, but if you have plans in this area. This is the way to go!”

“The room size was suitable. And it appeared to be cleaned well. We had a very nice view of the American museum of Natural history. The room also had a safe for personal belongings. Which is nice? The location is very convenient. Staff was so-so. Overall. A good price. And I would stay there again.”

“We've stayed at this hotel for 4 or 5 Christmas'. It has a very diverse clientele and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The best part is the location next to central park, museum of natural history, the accessibility of the subway, and the breakfast is not to be missed.”
