“Despite calling ahead, I along with 5 other guests, had to wait until 8 pm to get a clean room to check in to. It took two managers but I eventually was upgraded and given a room. It is a beautiful hotel, old wood, service was not very good.”

“the hotel is clean on the surface, quite, and convenient. having only one ice machine on the 2nd floor was inconvenient. in-room bathroom could have been cleaner - around the trim, etc. it shows that the hotel is probably only clean on the surface - i didn't want to think about what else might not have received regular attention.”

“Location. Location. Location. This hotel's strongest asset is its proximity to major New York landmarks -- from the Chrysler Building to the Empire State Building, Grand Central Terminal, the New York Public Library and the Flatiron Building. Also, a short walk away from the train stop that will take you to the site of the World Trade Center and the Brooklyn Bridge. The hotel itself, though, is more a 2-star-plus hotel than a 3-star hotel as advertised. It really rides on its laurels from a more prestigious past. Many of the ingredients are in place; a renovation would restore the property's former glory.”

“All in all I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff was exceptional, the beds comfortable, the lobby and bar relaxing, and it is centrally located near Grand Central.”

“The hotel is really a higher 3 star, a 3.5 at the minimum. The room was very nice, the bed was amazingly comfortable. Could be closer to public transportation. On a very quiet area of Park Avenue close enough to Grand Central Station. Movie selections so-so, concierge very friendly and helpful. Breakfast could have been better.”

“They need to update the air conditioning system, pay attention to detail, e.g. my faucet handles were turned in the wrong direction (RM 610)and vaccuum the floors. Get rid of all front desk staff with bad attitudes.”

“The hotel is the perfect size--not too big or too small, with an exceptionally accomodating and inviting staff. It is ideally located for shopping and dining, with great access to Grand Central station and mass transit lines.”

“Overall, this Sheraton provided convenience and value for my short business related trip to New York. The hotel is comfortable and pleasant, the staff friendly and accomodating. The guest rooms are average size for Manahattan hotels. I would recommend this hotel.”

“Small, nice but very tired and dated. Bathrooms were small and obsolete. Inexpensive places to catch a bite to eat in area. Can walk to city bus to airports, public library, empire state building.”

“A wonderful boutique style hotel with the warmth and service expected of a smaller establishment. Many sophisticated foreign visitors are attracted to the generous sized rooms and great location.”

“Great location. 5 blocks from Grand Central. You can drop off your luggage and start exploring NYC. On check out leave your luggage there and then return to get it before going to Grand Central. Literary a 5 minute walk to Grand Central. When we arrived (before check in time) we asked if we could have 2 double beds instead of a king. The person at the desk said only if we pay an extra $30. We went out for the day and when we returned we asked a different person at the front desk the same question and she was very nice and said no problem. We got the double beds at no extra cost. We wanted the doubles because my husband and I were traveling with our 7 yr old daughter. The hotel was very nice and clean. A very positive experience.”

“The location of the hotel is great, that is the only thing because the room was dirty, the towels had holes and they saw they where dirty and didn't change them. The bathroom smells terrible.
Not a good stay some fiends stayed at the Marriott and it was much better. I will never come back to the Sheraton Russell.”

“This is really a lovely place and a refuge in the city. It is stately and our room was lovely - small like all NYC hotels but interesting so it didn't feel too small. The lobby has several cozy areas to meet people including a nice little bar and a library type foyer with a fireplace, and wireless internet access. The neighborhood is 5 minutes from retail in a residential area, quiet and safe-feeling. I would happily return.
The only downside was that staff were not very friendly but all in all, it was a very nice stay.”
