“Fabulous location. Nice rooms. Hotel staff competent but not particularly friendly or helpful. Breakfast was fine but the dining room was not open for dinner due to a wedding. An ad had offered NY Times daily. It was NY Times weekend but an inferior daily paper.”

“Great part of Jersey, beautiful beaches, nice shopping. Atrocious hotel. Terrible staff, dirty and disappointing. Priced based off of location, not service. Comparable to a glorified Holiday Inn and for the experience.”

“Nice hotel, great location on the NJ coast. It is a resort and you have to pay an extra fee so you can use the spa. I wasn't there on vacation so I had to pay the extra and wasn't able to enjoy the hotel's extras.”

“Subject: Not Ready for Prime Time....Were just back from what was meant to be a three-day weekend where one of us needed connectivity to be able to work. We thereby checked with the American Express and with the hotel to make certain there was wireless in our room. This was essential for us to be able to take a long weekend off. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were taken to a room with a less than stellar view and no wireless. We called the front desk and were promptly taken to another room, perfect view, but still no wireless. We spent the better part of our first 24 hours going back and forth with the front desk who offered silly solutions such as try calling our tech support company (they were closed for the weekend) or you are welcome to come down to the lobby to email or we are not sure what the problem might be. After they suggested we move to a much smaller room that might have wireless (this would have marked the third time in two days we would have had to switch rooms) we just gave up.....What was really maddening more than the lack of wireless was the complete and utter disregard on the part of the staff for the inconvenience this had posed. And they took absolutely no ownership of the problem in the way of calling back to check on us to see if the wireless situation had been resolved. Only if we called again and again would they even accept that there might be a problem with their system. When we finally called American Express Platinum Travel to see if they could intervene, the desk sent a small cheese tray and a low-end bottle of wine which we did not open...Perhaps because it is off-season they didnt have their A-Team in place but the level of service and caring exhibited by the staff made us wish we had stayed at a Marriott or one of the mid-tier chains where we wouldnt have expected much which is precisely what we got here. ....A spa and resort this is not......”

“The hotel was dirty - rugs were dirty, bed had hair in it, overall the room was scary to sleep in. The bathroom was outdated and also looked as if it had not been cleaned in a while. The beds were uncomfortable and one of them did not even have a sheet on it.”

“Room lighting is very poor. Desk area is useless without a lamp! Could they spare a floor lamp next to the reading chair? There is no full length mirror. A pretty basic need! Iron didn't function. Just dripped water from the reservoir and didn't heat up. Closet door came off the track and remained propped against a wall for the three days of our stay! Does anyone check the equipment? The room was cold at night (heat monitors?)The bed was uncomfortable and the blanket thin. The spread was so weighty, it was unusable. The room key system failed two out of the three nights and we were stuck outside the room waiting for security twice! The bathroom needs some basic conveniences like a self to hold a toiletry bag and a toilet seat that has two working hinges and is not discolored. All effort was put into making the lobby attractive, but the rooms and furnishing are sub standard. Desk personnel made no response to guest inconveniences. Overpriced.”

“The location on the beach was spectacular. Health club and whirlpool/pool were great. The accommodations were clean but the general amenities (shampoo, soap etc) were not up to a "luxury" rating. The beds were hard as rock! Friendly staff.”

“A lovely old modern hotel on the ocean, good for conferences, good for vacationers, close to NYC, family friendly, yet spacious enough to accommodate a large convention and no one feels the others presence. I highly recommend it.”

“On the beach! Large room, nice toiletries, comfortable bed. We were strictly overnight guests to attend a funeral and didn't use any of the hotel's facilities.”

“I love the location of Ocean Place, and you can't beat sleeping next to the water with the door open to hear the waves as you fall asleep. The lobby is beautiful. Our room was disgusting - there were other people's dirty clothes under the bed, hairs in the shower, used band aid wrappers in the closet, a used water bottle under the armoire. I am sure the room was given nothing more than a once over and fresh toiletries. The gym also needs serious updating, as does the pool facility - it is dingy and much of the equipment in the gym was broken. Overall, Ocean Place is resting on it's location, but needs to get with it as far as what a 'resort' actually is.”

There were some spots in the bathroom that looked worn down a bit.”
