  • Too much security. I felt very uncomfortable. Could not go anywhere without being questioned, asked for ID, or a room key.

“Not my idea of a relaxing hotel. Felt more like a college dorm or a hospital.”

  • Location was excellent and although initially room reflected price and was substandard, I was upgraded and then was better than expected.
  • Service level at both restaurants
too long to wait to get waiter attention.

“Excellent location, staff friendly, and all types of rooms.”

  • Excellent location in relation to midtown Manhattan, right next to Amtrak.
  • Bathrooms didn't look new, but what can you expect for a Hotel built in 1930.

“The New Yorker Hotel provides great security, the staff are all friendly and the housekeeping does an excellent job. The hotel offers a lot for convenience, including bag service”

  • Excellent service, cleanliness, definitely will stay there again.

“While checking in, service was speedy and polite. The condition of the building was immaculate. Room was extremely clean, service was continued with a smile, and had zero issues with room services or anything.”

  • Large room.
  • Poor hotel service, phone did not work, no valet to take care, car was not delivered in a timely manner.

“Good location, nice room, very poor hotel service.”

  • Great location and very clean.
  • Rooms are small.

“Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms, convenient. Well worth it!”

  • Room was better than anticipated and location to theaters and eating/shopping fully met my need.
  • Discovering the mousetraps in the room.

“The room was very pleasant, beds and pillows were very comfortable and right outside the door of the hotel were a drugstore, McDonald's, Starbucks, coffee shop and restaurant. Anything you absolutely needed was right outside the door. Walking to theaters was easy and pleasant. Subways were close. Great experience.”

  • The New Yorker is a perfect choice in NYC!
  • That I was only able to stay two nights!

“The New Yorker is an absolutely charming, well-placed and perfect hotel for a NYC stay. The recent refurbishment kept the historic Art Deco feel, but did not sacrifice comfort or other conveniences. Room size was generous by NYC standards, staff were pleasant, prompt and professional. Wish I could have stayed longer!”

  • Location is good and safe for the price range charged.
  • Room size too small.

“Nice location near subway station and major attractions. Lobby looks grand but rooms are very small.”

  • The classic 1920 style lobby, clean rooms, great bed and pillows, and
    quite.
  • Fitness room need updating.

“Great location to the Javitz center and Madison sq Gardens. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room with great bed and pillows. No street noise.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[3] • Location:[9]

  • Location and value for money.
  • Staff attitude (customer focus is the very thing that you expect in the USA and you find difficult to get at the New Yorker).

“The New Yorker is very well located and the general condition of the hotel is good. Gym is a bit tired but it is a plus. We asked the room as a part of package flight from Europe + 5 nights hotel, but I trust that the hotel itself is good value for money. However, we were very disappointed by the staff attitude. Apart from the friendly cleaners, most of the staff was cold, distant or even abrupt with us. Starting from check-in, to the room 20 minutes later. Had a similar experience in the restaurant which we left before ordering food considering the not bothered attitude of the staff.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[7] • Location:[7]

  • Size of room was understandable effectively efficient.
  • Did not care for the hotel's signage. needed revamped.

“Hotel was comfortable and the location is perfect for those on the train into Penn Station.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[7] • Location:[4]

  • Clean.
  • Minimal amenities, lousy internet connection.

“Basically a hotel designed for convention-goers and tourists. Undergoing renovations that are making it cosmetically more appealing. The neighborhood, while convenient, is borderline sleazy. All NY hotels are outrageously expensive, and this one is less so - but don't expect charm or a decent internet connection. Undecorated bits like the laundry room are a disgrace.”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[8] • Location:[6]

  • Friendliness of front staff, location of hotel, cleanliness.
  • Size of room. But hey, it is NYC.

“Location was fantastic and easy to get to sites, subways, and things we wanted to do. The room was clean and met our needs. No complaints whatsoever.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[7] • Location:[10]

  • Location.
  • Needs serious renovation to compete with other hotels.

“Room was small, with no comfort accommodations such as coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator. Could use a makeover, but it was clean considering it's age. It was an enjoyable stay overall.”

Cleanliness:[1] • Staff:[5] • Location:[8]

  • None.
  • A jack hammer noise was constant because the hotel was under construction.

“We had to check out within 2 hours because of the quality of our room and the hotel. The walls are paper thing. There is no privacy. You can hear everything and there's hardly any space to move in the room. The bed was completely 'motel-ish' and the bedspread looked like it hadn't been washed in years. I felt dirty just being in the room and after 2 hours of trying to endure the room, we just had to call it quits.”

Cleanliness:[1] • Staff:[1] • Location:[10]

  • Location.
  • Every member of the front desk staff was rude.

“They have renovated rooms and non-renovated rooms. If you ask to be moved to a renovated floor, the staff and especially the manager will treat you like dirt.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[3] • Location:[9]

  • Clean, decent price and great location.
  • The staff gave me a very hard time about a non smoking room. Ridiculous.

“The hotel was great except for the fact that it was so difficult to get a non smoking room. I called 24 hours in advance, and then upon check in requested again and they refused. It was not until my eyes started to well up with tears while I begged them, that they conceded. that is utterly ridiculous.”
