• Location, restaurant.
• Room was shabby, peeling wallpaper.

“The initial appearance is overall good. My bathroom had large areas of peeling wallpaper and we asked for extra blanket and got a sheet instead. The restaurant was good with free meals for the kids registered at the hotel. The pool had way too much chlorine, almost made people sick.”

• Excellent poolside and pool view rooms.
• Older rooms, somewhat musty odor in our room.

“Immediately over the Norfolk line from Virginia Beach, this hotel has a wonderful expansive lobby and a nice outdoor pool area with numerous pool-view and pool-side rooms. We enjoyed the stay and the friendly staff. One downside is that the last renovation of the rooms was obviously a few years ago, and there was a bit of an odor in our unit (probably from the AC).”

• The pool area of the hotel was very nice and it was only a 10 minute drive to the beach.
• The cleanliness and quality of the room was fairly poor.

“This hotel was a short 10 minute drive the oceanfront at Virginia Beach, and very close to the highway. The pools were open late (till 11pm) and were quite nice. The rooms however were quite dirty. The first room had a very bad odor, stains on the walls and paint peeling off the ceiling. We were told the room had a pool view however you couldn't see anything but a big tree. We were able to change rooms, which helped, but the second room wasn't too much better. The smell in the room was hard to get over. I had to go and buy an air freshener spray. The overall cleanliness of the room was much better then the first, but a few hours into our stay we noticed that the air conditioner was leaking somehow and half of the carpet in the room got very wet and stayed that way for the duration of our stay. I would not recommend this hotel, if you plan on spending a lot of time in the room.”

• The hotel's environmentally friendly program is good on paper.
• Just about everything else.

“My first impression of the hotel was good, although I was a little concerned about the state of the carpets - they were dirty and worn. The room was right in front of the pool, which I liked, although it got a bit noisy at night when I was trying to sleep. I was very disappointed with the hotel room itself. The toilet ran constantly and the seat shifted but despite a conversation with front desk staff, nothing was done to fix it. The tub was stained and chipped. Garbage was left in the room after the cleaning crew came through, and they really didn't clean much except to make the beds and replace the towels (which I thought weren't supposed to be replaced as part of their environmental program). The bathroom and general room areas were left in disrepair. I wouldn't stay at this, or any other Holiday Inn, again.”

• The pool.
• The mold under the AC unit. The room was musty.

“The hotel needs to be updated. I would guess that this was a 4 star hotel in the 80's, but not today. If you blur your eyes you might convince yourself that this is a 4 star hotel. I was surprised that this was a Holiday Inn.”

“This hotel is in a good location. Very close to the highway, not too far from the beach, the amusement park and the Virginia Aquarium. Above all, the staff is very friendly and quick on working on guest requests.”

• The front desk staff was really helpful and congenial.
• The hotel was not in good repair.

“The Holiday Inn did not meet my expectations. I would not stay in this hotel again. It was pretty clean, but there was a mysterious order throughout the building. Also, the first morning of my stay the maids told us we could not have anymore cream or sugar for our coffee because they didn't have any. We went to the cart and got some ourselves for the complimentary coffee service we were supposed to have in the room. There were no towels left after they cleaned and they were not delivered until late in the evening. The room was nice enough and there was complimentary wireless internet service, but it still wasn't worth the price.”

• The room was clean. The beds were comfortable and staff was helpful.
• The elevators were in need of updating and the nice pool could use better cleaning.

• It was convenient to the beach area and the military bases (one of which our son is stationed at).
• I thought that the hotel was a little run down looking. When we checked in there were trash cans overflowing.

“Our stay at the hotel was pretty good. It is a little bit run down for a 3 star hotel. The staff was probably the most friendly that I have ever dealt with at a hotel. The restaurant was excellent. It is about 10-15 minutes from the beach. Close to the military installations in the area if you have a loved on that you want to visit.”

• Comfortable rooms. Felt very homey.
• The pool rules were not being enforced and there were little kids in the hot tub and running around everywhere not being supervised.

• The staff was friendly, I didn't have to checkout through front desk, beds comfortable.
• A little loud, parking a little difficult, food a little pricy.

“When I read the reviews of this hotel I was a little unsure of staying there. I shouldn't have been. From the moment I checked in until I left the staff was friendly, the food was great and my entire stay was great. Even to the point where I (being from the Midwest) had searched everywhere for unsweetened iced tea and the bartender made me some and sent me back to my room with extra.”

• Small beds, leaky toilet, screaming baby next door, noisy elevator.

“I was not thrilled with this motel. I will never return to this motel, unless forced to. You can hear the noise of a crying baby to the conversations of others in neighboring rooms. We did receive a non smoking room upon request but received a very poorly equipped room.”

“Might have been nice twenty years ago, but showing its age badly. A wonderfully attentive staff and free wireless internet couldn't make up for the run down facilities, barely functional TV, etc.”

“Overall an excellent experience. This Holiday Inn was great, and the staff was extremely friendly and efficient. We had a bad room light and a broken bathroom vent, reported them on a Sunday morning and they were both fixed by Sunday afternoon! What a pleasant experience.”
