“I would rate the hotel 4 star for service and staff, we were treated like we were in a 5 star hotel.”

“The location of this hotel was wonderful. It was near many restaurants and the historical section of Norfolk. One "minus" was that there was not easy parking. Another "minus" was that we were unable to turn down the thermostat and the room was very cold. There was an adequate breakfast included with the room which we did not know about in advance. The hotel served our needs.”

“When I called the hotel to tweak my accommodation preferences, such as king-sized versus double beds, etc. The staff member who helped me take my luggage upstairs said that he really hated to take people to those rooms apparently because of their lower quality. I walked through other floors while maids were remaking rooms after checkout and saw that the rooms on all other floors were comfortable beautiful and commodious.”

“It was well kept and very clean room, but the down side is them over charging me for parking and will not settle the dispute.”

“The hotel looks great--retro style updated with modern touches. It's in the heart of the entertainment district, which means noise from revelers carried right into the rooms from the street and kept us awake at night. Likewise, because it is a moderately priced, the hotel was filled with young people on the 4th of July weekend who partied into the wee hours in the hallways and were generally obnoxious. The hotel did little to enforce quiet hours. Finally, the 'full continental breakfast' was like something you'd expect at Motel 6--Styrofoam and plastic, and a limited selection. I skipped it. In conclusion, the location is great, service excellent, and the hotel looks great. Too bad it didn't live up to its appearance with adequate comfort and a peaceful environment. Probably would not stay there again, which it a shame.”

“I called and made a reservation on June 14th. When I arrived on July 22nd, I was informed they had no reservation for me. There was also no parking on site, the nearest parking a few blocks away, no place to even unload luggage so I had to carry it. While staying at the Tazewell, plaster fell from the ceiling of the lobby (!) Damaging a table below. Later, I found out that in addition to loosing my reservation, the hotel charged me a no show fee for the 12th of July. They further refuse to refund that charge or even respond to my emails about it. So, in addition to bad service, no parking and an unsafe hotel, they are charging me $107.22 extra because their front desk staff lost the reservation and they refuse to do anything about this mistake. Next time I am in Norfolk, I will stay elsewhere and you should as well.”

“The front desk staff was very courteous. Location was convenient--except the parking garage being a block and a half away and parking meters full nearby, but access, on foot, was great for restaurants and mall for anyone needing to shop for an item. Quite safe with policemen everywhere. The rooms do not adequately seal out light and noise. Construction equipment and trash trucks working very early morn. Though both in their written material and orally we were told that check-out was for 12noon. Housekeeping concerns, however, seemed totally focused on them getting to leave early, rather than be knowledgeable or be sensitive to our need for sleep--because at 10:30AM Housekeeping was banging on our door and demanding to know when we were leaving. I told them I thought check-out was 12noon. The gal flippantly "apologized" and left. We were both overtired due to life situations and the two "nights" sleep there with so much street noise. We had just gotten back to sleep when Housekeeping was pounding on our door again. This second time of waking us, she now was demanding to know if we were going to be leaving on time or needed to leave late. Again, it was 11:06 and check-out was for 12noon. at this point I called the front desk. The gal at the front desk apologized and said she would speak right away with Housekeeping, that 12noon is indeed checkout and that Housekeeping is not supposed to be knocking on any door until 12noon. Shortly after that, a gal with the voice of the Housekeeping gal called loudly to someone else: "I am just waiting for Them! It was approximately 11:16AM. We left totally exhausted. The lack of sleep there could create a driving hazard for people needing to travel. Tazewell, itself, is historic and cute--Old European Decor, and reasonably clean. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, since I arrived, overtired and needing sleep and that just was not possible at Tazewell House.”

“I wanted a nice place because I was renewing my vows (romantic). The water in the shower had little or no pressure and made a high pitch noise then on. Also, our room was right next to the maids closet.”
