“We had never stayed at the Hotel Monaco and wanted something close to the Verizon Center in Downtown, DC. This was literally across the street so the location was fantastic! The Hotel was decorated in a cool, funky way that reminded me of SoBe, Miami. The staff was great too.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Location, location, location!
  • Restaurant over priced and not worth it! Some of the staff behind the counter was not very helpful or friendly.

“Excellent location, walking distance to all the main tourist attractions. Great old building, just don't get stuck in the rooms on the first floor. Would stay there again.”

“Disappointed with hotel staff - not helpful, gave out incorrect information. Great location but service was so poor would not stay here again. Previously stayed here and had a favorable experience.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Beautiful architecture.
  • First floor corridors feel like being in the basement of the building. Air conditioner was noisy.

“Bring walking shoes. The longest hallways ever! Think The Shining.”

  • The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are beautiful.

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Great rooms and attentive staff.
  • Nothing negative at all.

“Great hotel. Loved the leopard robes! My only wish was that they had more connected-rooms, which was what I requested. But we managed fine with 3 kids under 8.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[9]

  • I liked it's eclectic style and attentive yet relaxed staff.
  • The bathroom door in our hotel room didn't block out any bathroom noises.

“This hotel is a gorgeous hotel right in the center of DC. It has a fun eclectic style, yet doesn't overwhelm. The staff was friendly and accommodating and helped to make our stay an enjoyable one.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[8]

  • The valets were great, open wine/beer in late afternoon,
  • Exercise room not air-conditioned, room cramped-only 10 inches between foot of bed and wall, no cobs or hob on TV, no two double beds available.

“The room was in the basement and had no view, the room was cramped.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • Great location for transportation and sightseeing; wonderful staff. Interesting blend of old architecture and new decor.
  • Room quite small with no soundproofing to hall. Little room to unpack.

“As a leisure traveler, I was very pleased with the hotel. The metro was right across the street, with access to the airport and all sections of the city. I walked everywhere, to all attractions at the mall, and there were museums right across the street. Staff was extremely courteous and informative. Items I requested, e.g., extra blanket, were delivered promptly. As a single traveler, the room was fine for me - but it would not have been fine with two adults or a business traveler who needed room to work.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • Staff was outstanding and helpful.

“Stayed 3 days with 2 grandchildren 12 and 13. Staff was so helpful and friendly. Beds were so comfortable and facilities were good. Neighborhood was a bit scary within several blocks. Metro across the street. Happy hour was nice and a good social event. Altogether, a really nice stay .Would goes there again.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[10]

  • The historic building, tall ceilings in the rooms and wide hallways.
  • No room for a night stand on both sides of the bed.

“We were very pleased with the beauty of the hotel; not at all disappointed. We enjoyed our room on the third floor. We did not use the fitness room, and ate only one breakfast in the hotel restaurant. The staff was wonderful.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[7] • Location:[10]

  • Decor high ceilings in a national landmark. Gorgeous.
  • Valet could not locate my car in the morning for 20 minutes -- and they were not busy.

“Pleasant, possibly over-helpful staff were mostly good, but I was disappointed that the valet was unable to get my car to me for over 20 minutes. Building is a historic landmark -- all marble and beautiful.”

May 26, 2007 by Elizabeth from Durham, NC
Overall Rating: 3 Overall user rating
Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[2] • Location:[10]

  • Amazing location, in the midst of construction, but walking distance to everything.
  • Staff was unfriendly, guest rooms were in basement with no windows, very small, crammed rooms.

“Great location and beautiful building, but the pros end there only well if you don't plan on spending any time in your room. The rooms are tiny, crammed, horribly designed, and in the basement of the hotel. (upstairs is all function room area) you take what seems like a re-done service elevator down to tee basement and walk through a dark hallway before getting to where the rooms are located. ”

Cleanliness:[6] • Staff:[2] • Location:[7]

  • The convenience to the metro.
  • Overpriced overnight parking.

“The appearance of the hotel was very nice, but the location of the rooms seemed as if we were in the basement and not much outside light came in.”
