  • Fun, unpretentious, clean and friendly.
  • Would love a desk to work at.

“Fun and crazy - in a very Target kind of way - which for the price they charge, puts them way ahead of competition. Clean rooms, nice decor, personable staff.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[6] • Location:[6]

  • The price and being close to a supermarket and drug store.
  • The parking at $30 a day plus tax was high.

“Location is in the Logan Circle area, right in the heart of the inner city. 10 minute walk to the Metro. The room itself was spacious and clean. Dining options are very limited in this part of town. The first 2-3 blocks in walking to the Metro are a bit seedy. There is a public parking lot close to the McPherson Metro stop that charges $17 a day vs. $30+tax at the hotel, if you are willing to walk 10-15 minutes.”

  • It was very conveniently located. The decor gave wrong first impression.
  • The decor and lighting.

“The hotel is located close to many attractions. The decor gave me first wrong impression. However I would not use this hotel for my next visit to DC.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[7]

  • The front desk staff was very nice and very accommodating.
  • Parking was $30 a night and mine was parked out by the street.

“This is definitely a comfortable place to stay, love the funky decor. The rooms have plenty of space and huge bathroom. Very clean! The beds are comfortable but the pillows were too soft so next time I would bring my own. The parking was outrageously high, $30 a night. No matter if its parked outside by the street or in their garage. And make sure you have what you need out of your car since you can't get to it once its down there unless you request it to be brought up. It is a long 5 blocks from the sights and there is only one restaurant close. There is a whole food market just one block over which was great. Wish they had a pool to cool down at the end of a very hot day. Over all I think it was a very clean and funky hotel with no amenities and definitely not for a family.”

  • Location and hotel appearance was cool.
  • Rooms are kind of small on space.

“This hotel was clean, neat, and the decor was totally awesome. Having a cod player in the room along with a cool interior was worth it. The hotel was conviently located to most attractions. We could walk to most attractions or take a cheap cab ride to and from the hotel.”

  • The sofa was a nice addition; it made the room more like home.
  • Animal print is not my style.

“Everyone was very friendly and room was fun and different. It was a neat change of pace for people who usually stay at big chain motels.”

  • Clean.
  • I did no like all the different colors of the hotel furniture.

“I did like the location but the hotel looked a little cheap.i.e. The furniture was a little cheesy plus we asked for something from the front desk and did not get it until the next day.”

  • A little walk to the Metro.

“A nice hotel, decorated in a funky style. Everything was clean and new. Pretty close to Downtown and most attractions. I would stay here again.”

  • The rooms are slightly bigger than your typical hotel room and have some character.
  • It's a long walk to the nearest Metro station, and by the time you get there, you are better off walking to all the sites.

“This was a good hotel to stay in and I would stay here again. I think there is just enough cool stuff but not the point where it was totally over-done. I was pleasantly surprised. The location is pretty good, but if you are looking to stay in a hotel that is near all the attractions, this isn't the place. It's about a ten minute walk or so to the nearest Metro station (McPherson Square), and by the time you get there, you are already a few blocks from the White House, so there is really no need to take the Metro. The neighborhood of the hotel is nice - not great - but I walked back from Downtown DC several times. I would have taken a cab if I didn't feel safe but I felt fine. The bar downstairs seems to be a hangout place for young crowds. Because I was there in winter, no one was out on the patio, but I could tell that over the summer there would be a lot of noise from the patio from the young crowd and the music.”

  • Jazz room style.
  • Charge money in advance for unexpected lost or broken facilities, short of towels.

“The location is not so convenient to most famous sights in Downtown. Bus will be the main transportation you use. They charged money first for unexpected lost or broken facilities when you checked in the room. Everyday the face towel or bath towel would be short of by house keeping. Everyday I am nervous of touching or using something inside the room that may make me be charged money. I'll never stay at Helix again.”

  • What a wonderful deal with the hotel helix.
  • No.

“This was a really great deal with hotel helix. The hotel is very close to convention center, very convenient for the business travelers. The room space I got was really big. The space was even better than other sort of "better hotel". The staffs were nice.”

  • Helix has a movies theme. The decoration is wild, but the beds wonderful. I smiled every time I walked in. As the curtains parted show time!
  • The single thing I would improve is to put a neighborhood map in each room.

“Ok it was cheap so I was not expecting a Hilton but what an experience. From the dramatic entrance through parting curtains to the free happy hour for guests each night, I loved it. Oh yes clean, good bed, fluffy pillows etc. I travel a lot for work and can't tell where I am with the four stars ho hum. This was 2.5 stars and Ill remember it for years. It was gay friendly but lots of straights and kids as well. In fact that is part of the charm. One night I talked to a black man who was on vacation but who made his living as a female impersonator, another night I talked to a couple from the Midwest who was having a ball [go packers]. The place is clean safe and closes to subway etc. I feel like I had two vacations, one seeing dc sights and the other coming home to a place with character and don't get me started on the Barbie and ken pictures, or the leopard print bath robes.”

  • The room was quiet.
  • The ridiculous kitschy decor.

“Decent hotel, probably fun for those who are terminally hip, or want to be. Too far from metro. Very lively bar scene.”

  • The art work is incredible; the decor is innovative.
  • That they charge $5 per 15 minutes to use the internet in the business office.

“This is a superb small hotel in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. The decor is whimsical, both in the lobby and in the guest rooms. The art work is pop art and great to look at. Rather than revolving doors at the entrance, there are curtains which automatically fling open as you enter. The lobby is bright and cheery. The guest rooms have a kingside bedroom alcove behind thin curtains. If you like modern decor, you'll love this guest room. The two negatives are they charge $5 for 15 minute internet use in the business office; and they need a pair of 20 lb. And 25 lb. Weights in the exercise room (the top weight is only 15 lbs.).”

  • We loved the funky style of the room and the whole setup of the room.
  • Almost nothing - could have used more regular coffee 'n sugar in the room but we called and they brought it right up.

“Great room, great and funky decor, very nice and helpful staff. Highly recommended!”

  • Nice place with a taste of Austin powers.
  • Fun place and good design.

“I did not know this place and it was a nice surprise. I'll recommend this place for a 2/3 days stay in dc. This place is fun, casual and not expensive.”
