• Staff cordial and helpful.
• Uneasy walking at night, not a good selection of close restaurants.

“An older hotel nicely updated. Had pleasant room with needed amenities. Good service. Very helpful at desk, concierge, and doorman. Location was nicely close to White House and other attractions. Close to Metro, but felt uneasy walking at night. Near park which was used by many homeless. Not a good selection of restaurants without walking several blocks.”

• Large room, comfortable bed, new furniture and bathroom.
• Liked everything.

“This was an excellent hotel with all the amenities of a 4 star, plus new furniture, new bathrooms, new carpet, excellent staff, 2 lounges, excellent location, valet parking, plus easy routes into the city and to the hotel and out of the city.”

“On the service end, I can understand the 4 star rating, but the room was just a regular hotel room nothing special or elegant, though it was very clean. I expected more luxury.”

“This hotel did not cover my expectations of four stars. It is a very small hotel with no facilities and very poor service. The location is not bad but this would fit better in a 3-star hotel.”

• The staff went above and beyond what was expected of them and seemed to really enjoy their jobs.
• Nothing.

“Lovely experience. The decor and staff were perfect (and I don't use that word to describe hotels often). I hope to stay at The Madison again next year when we take another grandchild to experience DC.”

• The hotel was very clean, well appointed and the staff was very eager to help.
• The parking rates are extremely too high.

“The Madison was a great place to stay for our family visit to DC. The staff was very eager to assist us, the rooms were spotless, even if a little smaller than expected. Wish there had been ice machines on the halls and the parking fee was way too high.”

“This hotel has a great staff. If you appreciate customer service, it's hard to beat this place. The rooms are well appointed and there are lots of nice touches to make your stay more comfortable. The lounge and restaurant are top notch and also have outstanding service. I recommend this hotel highly.”

• Great sheets. Good food.
• First sent to an occupied room. Restaurant not really solo friendly. Pricey room service.

“Some charm, small bathroom. Nicely appointed rooms. I didn't find their restaurant for casual dining very welcoming for a solo woman traveler, it is really a bar. I opted for room service which was very pricey.”

• I loved everything about this hotel.
• $35.00 a day parking fee that they did not inform us of until check-out. We were there for 2 full days = $70.00 just for parking.

“Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! We couldn't find hotel at first so I called the hotel and the gentleman stayed on the phone with me until we pulled up to the front door. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Everything was clean and sparkling! Parking fees should be clearly explained up front. But they were nice even about this, making an adjustment in our billing.”

• Attractive, modern, hotel - very nice lobby, nice gym, nice sauna.
• The room is a little too small; especially with the desk and cabinet they try to cram in. Bathroom was a little old feeling.

“This is a delightful hotel located within walking distance of many DC attractions. Although a bit small, this hotel has a beautiful and modern lobby which has excellent servicemen. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are okay with a smallish room (We kept banging into the desk and chair!). But everything else was pleasant. I always love hotels that give out free fruit during the day! That's delightful!”

• The staff was very accommodating.
• The mattresses were hard. They need to upgrade to pillow top.

“The staff was friendly and kind to my kids. The hotel was clean. Every shower we had hot water. They turned down our beds nightly. We would go back. The location was great. I would recommend staying there.”

• The staff was very friendly and helpful.
• The room was small, the bed was broken, and there was no soap in the bathroom.

“The Madison was a very nice hotel in a convenient area for seeing the Washington sites. The staff was wonderful and extremely helpful. Everyone was very friendly. The room was a little small for a family of four, but we didn't spend much time there. The hotel's location made up for the room size. We were three blocks from the Metro. The only issue we had with the room was there was a bar of soap that had been used by a previous guest still in the shower when we first got to the room.”

• Fitness facility was excellent. Overall appearance was nice.
• Had quite a few problems with room that should not occur for a hotel with this rating.

“Overall location of hotel was very convenient to subway, white house, and national mall. Fitness facility was excellent and staff was very courteous. However, we had a lot of problems with our room. Room was very small. Had issues with simple things like number of towels, bed sheets not being in good shape, torn pillows, and other things that should never happen for a four star or higher hotel. I was disappointed in the room overall during my trip.”

• It suited my purpose and was very clean.
• The food and service in the restaurant was not great.

“The Madison Hotel is in a good location in central Washington, convenient to historical sites, restaurants and museums. The service is friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. I would stay at the Madison again when I return to Washington.”

• Room was very small no safe or coffee maker.

“Hotel is an okay location probably better for business than leisure. Closer to 3 star in room due to the fact there was no coffeemaker or safe, which is standard at a four star or many 3 stars. The walls are very thin in the hotel. We found the food excellent in the restaurant for breakfast but the service very slow.”

“A wonderful place to stay. Turned my ankle and ended up staying in for a day while my husband went sightseeing. The management sent lunch up on a silver tray as a gift from the hotel. Our room also had a wonderful massage therapy lounge chair. We will be back.”
