  • Affordable.
  • They tried to steal our camera.

“On July 8th my 17 year old daughter and my mother checked in to the Econolodge Motel in Gettysburg (717-334-4208). The next morning they checked out and continued their travel. Shortly after leaving my daughter realized she left her digital camera on the bed. She immediately called the motel and told them she had left the camera on the bed. They told her it was not found. She called back several times Tuesday and Wednesday and each time was told by both the manager and other employees that the camera was not found. On Thursday, July 10th they checked back into the same hotel on the return trip home. My daughter asked about the camera again. She saw it in a draw at the front desk. The manager said she did not know anything about the camera. My daughter insisted that this was her camera and insisted they return it to her. When she got it back it was missing the memory card. The manager said she had no knowledge of the missing card. Friday morning July 11th I called the hotel and spoke with the manager. She said that they gave her the camera last night. When I questioned her about not notifying my daughter that it had been found she said they had to move the bed and found it behind the headboard. As it was left on the foot of the bed I doubted the truth of her explanation. She had no explanation of why they did not phone my daughter when they found it. When I questioned whether it would have been returned if they had not come back to this hotel and seen it first hand. She had no explanation of how the memory card was missing other than it must have fallen out. When I explained that to remove it, one would need to press a button and then press another button inside the opened door to release the card. That it would have to be done deliberately she had no explanation. I notified her that if this was not resolved I would post a review with this story on hotel website. She told me she did not care. I told her that since her employees were the only one with access to this camera that it was clearly taken by an employee and she and the other people my daughter had spoken with by phone had lied to her. She had no explanation. After hanging up with me she called my elderly mother in her room and asked her to come to the office. The manager was unhappy that someone had called and complained that the caller was angry. Although I can agree I was unhappy with the situation, the conversation had been respectful. The manager offered no resolution to my mother. She insisted that the camera was found only when they pulled the bed from the wall. She could not explain why they did not call the cell phone or my mother's home number, which was left with the front desk. The manager was clear that she did not want negative postings but offered no resolution. The manager was present with a young man. He questioned why anyone would take the memory card. My mother also had this same concern. She also reiterated that she believed this camera would not have been returned if they had not stopped back and seen it in the office. They did not offer any accommodations to resolve this situation..”

  • Absolutely nothing.
  • Everything -- particularly the odor.

“The worst, filthiest and most repugnant dump I have ever stayed in. Wanted to save money and boy, do I regret it. The walls, carpet, bathtub and ceiling were stained with mildew. The entire motel -- room, halls and lobby -- reeked of mildew and a faint sewage scent. A Gettysburg friend of mine informs me the place frequently floods when Rock Creek overflows. Wish he had told me sooner. The TV was supposed to be cable but reception was terrible and set was either blasting loud or inaudible. Bed was lumpy and sheets were stained. Soda in vending machine was over TWO YEARS OLD per date on can. Vile. Staff was friendly but refused even a partial refund. Desk clerk was playing cards with some locals and chain smoking when I arrived...lobby was supposed to be smoke free. Continental breakfast was a joke. Jug of warm orange juice and instant coffee. If you are coming to Gettysburg, don't be fooled by the location of this place. Yes, it's within walking distance. But you will not be able to sleep for the putrid stench of the room.”

  • Close to attractions.
  • Bathrooms were not nice.

“Hotel will be torn down in 2 weeks to rebuild better one. This was a gift to my parents and she asked if they wanted to pay cash or use credit card and this upset my parents because they were unsure what to do. They had the confirmation page and then the hotel was ok with it. But it added stress and old people don't need anymore stress.”

  • Close to attractions, met our need for an inexpensive place to sleep.
  • Overall condition of hotel was dated and in need of some updating.

“The Econo-Lodge was in a very convenient location and easy to find. The buildings were showing some age and needed to be refurbished. But all we wanted was a place to sleep at night and it served our purpose very well and the price fit our budget very well. I would stay here again under the same circumstances.”

  • Excellent proximity to Gettysburg battlefield, cemetery and shopping.
  • Tiny bathroom and towels.

“With a picturesque location, the Econo Lodge will provide the Gettysburg visitor an economical stay, and nearness to the solemn battlefield and National Cemetery.”

  • The price would have paid more money to stay somewhere decent.
  • Needs renovation. Cracked walls, putt yon AC in room to hold to wall. Wouldn't let anybody stay there.

“Don't let anyone else go there! What was there was clean.. Carpet stained water damage. Nice location for a new facility.”

“Room was unacceptable. I had asked for handicapped. I was given a room unable to drive car too. Hotel only cared about the money I never got a return offer and they said I had not dealt with you people therefore I had no recourse I had better get my 157.00 dollars back since I know they have the room to someone else since I was unable to stay wife is severely handicapped and I also walk with a cane.”
