“The staff was nice, but the whole hotel is a shambles because it is under construction. The sign in the room said that they highly suggested that you be escorted to the parking lot. When the construction is done, this might be a good place to stay, but until then, do not go near this place.”

“This hotel has just been remodeled. It is in a very convenient location, although a commercial area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay there again. The wireless network in the room was excellent and no additional charge. Very good for business or if you are visiting nearby University of Richmond.”

“The room was fine, however, they were remodeling and drywall dust was everywhere. I am sick from all of the dust. I would not have stayed here if I didn't have to due to the fact of the remodeling. I will not stay there again.”

“This hotel was undergoing major construction. However, the hotel staff was wonderful in trying to make the visit nice. From the changes I could see, the hotel will be quite nice when it is completed. We weren't at all disturbed by the construction. The area at first glance might not look the best, but the area is quite safe (I lived in Richmond for 4 years) and is in a prime location. You are 2 blocks from Krispy Kreme, a mile from 64/95 junction, 10 minutes from downtown and 5 minutes from Cary town.”

“Hotel was in the middle of remodeling at this time. One of the elevators was broken. No lounge or restaurant open because of remodeling. It does look like it will be nice when the remodeling is complete. Our room was finished and it was very nice. Staff seemed a little aggregated with the remodeling folks and lack of an elevator.”

“Under massive renovations. Boiler went down. No hot water. First time moved said no renovated rooms available. Second time found renovated room. Gave a couple of coupons for $3.00 off breakfast.”

“The hotel was under construction and there was no hot water in the room -- basically a third world experience, and this when it is a 3 star hotel.”

“Overall it was great. Good location to the Theatre that we were going to (5 min). Room was clean, comfortable and welcoming. The only down side was construction but it didn't take away from the room any. Wish we were in town longer to stay another night!”

“This hotel has potential, but our room was rather dingy and the beds were old. The staff was nice and very friendly but did not respond to the bathroom problem. It was graduation weekend so every room was taken in Richmond or we would have switched hotels.”

“The bed and bath accommodations are acceptable and the hotel is in a safe area of Richmond, however, I would consider it at the lower end of the spectrum as far as hotel ratings. The decor has probably not been changed in 20 years and looks it, and the beds and bathroom are outdated, austere, and low end.”

“If a hotel is under renovations, it should not be in your list. One of hotel's elevator was really a hazard and the elevator door was warped!! My kids and I used the stairs because we did not trust the elevators. I would never recommend this hotel to anybody. Breakfast was late on Sunday morning and the staff did not seem to care that it was late.”

“The Holiday Inn is a fine hotel. It is getting old, so some rooms show their age, but when I stayed there they had floors 7 and 8 closed for the first phase of a $2.5M renovation which will refresh the whole hotel. The staff was friendly. The lounge had decent (bar) food and a nice beer selection. The beds are comfortable, and very importantly, the sheets are above average. The hotel is conveniently located across from a major shopping area and about a 15-minute drive to the city centre. I travel for business a lot (3 trips/month) and I would stay here again the next time I'm in Richmond, even if I get an un-renovated room again. The Holiday inn was fine.”

“Not a terrible place but not the worst I've seen. The star rating was a little high for what the hotel delivered. The facility was older and though it had been updated, its age was apparent. The main thing hotels boil down to be how comfortable the beds are and I would rate this hotel at about a 4/10. The pillows were sub par and the heater smelled of burning hair. Other than that I guess it was alright.”
