“Another review of the Skyland Resort emphasizes that the prices would be exorbitant if it was not located in the Shenandoah National Park. I maintain that the prices would be exorbitant if it was located half a block down from the Pearly Gates. The place is a total dump. It was thrown up about 70 years ago and looks as if it has never been touched since. It has no charm, no ambience, no modern amenities, and no a/c. It does have gnats. Millions of gnats, that never goes to bed. I knew it was rustic. I was prepared for rustic. Rustic means 'plain and simple, lacking in excessive refinement.' This place was not rustic. It was just ugly and really, really hot. I have backpacked all over the world and stayed in much worse. I am sure that if the Skyland Resort had any competition, even the purist camping types would go elsewhere.”
