“Hotel was OK.”

  • Very nice appearance.
  • Very small Rooms 10X10.

“I expect a 4 star hotel to have spacious rooms. These rooms were very, very small!”

  • Historical atmosphere and ambiance.
  • My hotel was very small. I wondered if I was assigned this room because I paid less than the regular room rate.

“I've stayed here several ties and its always a pleasure at the Carolina Inn. It feels more like bed & breakfast than a hotel because of the decor and attention to detail. I love the historical aspects.”

  • Ambiance.
  • Small outdated room, no pool, overpriced, overrated.

“I cannot imagine why it has 4 stars, should be 2 or 2.5.”

  • Charming lobby and decor.
  • Rooms very small; TV's obsolete; noise heard through walls.

“The rooms are just too small to stay for long, and people talking loudly in the hallways or other rooms are easily heard. Every time the A/C turned out (about every 10 minutes), it awoke me because it sounded like an airplane engine. (Too much volume of air going too small a vent.) But if you turn the A/C temp up, you feel hot and sounds in the hallway are worse.”

  • Perfect location to UNC. Beautiful, well perserved historic hotel.
  • The room was much to small. I hope this was because of the decreased price.

“This was the perfect location and a vry nice old hotel. However, this is not the accomodations of a 4 star hotel. The room was quite nice, but much too small. If I had paid the full advertised price for this place I would have been very disappointed or upset.”

  • Beds were great, staff was wonderful.
  • Queen historic room is not much bigger than a closet with a very small window very high on wall.

“Great hotel for very low bid price, but don't get the queen historic room. Very small with an even smaller window. Staff was excellent. Food was good, but not great.”

  • Lobby floral arrangements were nice, bar service good.
  • Everything else - smallest room & bed I have ever seen, old TV, charges for coffee, papers, parking, not warned of sorority parities below my room, surely clerk.

“Huge disappointment, checked out after 1 night and went elsewhere. At checkout, I find a $10 charge for self-parking 1 night. Checked in at 8 PM & asked for 2 newspapers that were stacked on counter - after he gave them to me told that there was a $3.50 charge for newspapers, surely clerk, never had a room and that small or ancient TV, no view, not told in advance that several sorority parties were going on that night - could not even walk through lobby, assigned postage size room right above party rooms, am buffet not much variety & added $3.50 charge for cup of coffee. No signs for business center or gym. Be prepared for lots of extra incidental charges that other hotels provide free. After 1 night, checked out and moved to a hotel big rooms, big beds, soundproofing, better brunch with free newspapers, coffee & business center, pool gym and free parking.”

  • Beautiful, classic & convenient--lovely atomosphere.
  • Breakfast--too long a wait (over 30 minutes!) at 8:30 am.

“Hotel was fantastic--great, friendly service from the valets at the front, to the check-in staff. Only negative--breakfast! We wanted to eat in the beautiful room--but it had a longer than 30 minute wait at 8:30 am! Great news, though--they did warn us & we were able to leave and go elsewhere--but we were disappointed, we were sure it was good!”

  • Pleasant hotel on the University campus with friendly staff and nicely appointed rooms.
  • Room was very small, fixtures are old and parking is $10/night.

“Generally a pleasant experience, the room was very tiny, however and most of the hotel fixtures are dated/tired.”

  • We loved the friendly, helpful staff and the gorgeous lobby.
  • Health facilities were inadequate; too few machines and too cramped.

“Simply the best place to stay in Chapel Hill with a wonderful staff, great location to Campus and comfortable rooms.”

  • Location was perfect.
  • Parking confusing.

“It was a perfect place to stay for us attending a UNC Basketball game. Rooms were spacious and beds were SO comfortable. We were able to walk one block to Franklin Street for shopping and to catch the bus to the game! Never had to drive again till we left!”

  • Southern hospitality, authenticity of decor, part of the community, enjoyed by every age group, wonderful staff.
  • A little noisy.

“I loved this place. Very southern and sweet. As the desk attendant said to me as he handed me a cup of coffee when I checked out at 5:45 am, "a dying breed." I really felt like a part of the community during my two night stay. Old couples arrived for lunch at the restaurant, a wedding was being staged, and a big family of energetic youngsters brought life to the restaurant at breakfast time. A nice hotel, a great cultural experience. Poached eggs on sweet potato hash!”

  • Charming, great location, excellent value.
  • One bed had a broken frame.

“This is a great hotel that has unique charm and a true southern feel. The holiday decorations and afternoon teas are great for kids, and the Carolina crossroads restaurant has excellent food at reasonable prices for the quality. Staff is friendly, too.”
