  • Old world B & B feels in an updated building.
  • Charge for parking that is not disclosed, un guarded lot.

“This hotel is really a B & B Inn, I like staying there a lot. The last time that we stayed there; however, there was a new $10.00 per day charge (to the benefit of the hotel) for parking. This was not disclosed until I arrived. I was also informed that the hotel does not guard the lot. You park at your own risk.”

  • Continental breakfast.
  • Loud, noisy, over priced and over rated!

“This was the worst hotel that we ever stayed at.

Our 2 different rooms had loud noise problems...a very busy street outside one of our windows, industrial washer and dryers turning on and off all day and night, employees verbally fighting, the front desk help was rude and doesn't understand good customer service. We had to pay $10 per day to park and .75 for each local phone call. No phone books in the room, no TV program guide, no one to help with the luggage and the parking lot flooded one day making it difficult to access the car.

For $209 per night we were thinking that we would have pleasant hotel accommodations

DON'T BUY INTO THE HYPE ABOUT IT BEING CHARMING AND QUAINT. The only thing that the Anson borough Inn is - is historical. A Motel 6 would have provided better accommodation's”

  • The room, it was the most luxurious place I've ever stayed.
  • $20 parking fee included with the room.

“The Ansonborugh Inn is one of the best places that I have stayed in Charleston. It was very upper class and very quiet. It had an old charm to it, but it had all the modern luxuries. They served a continental breakfast and they had wine and cheese tastings once a day. The staff was very helpful and helped us with dinner reservations and directions. The inn was a street down from the Old Market and we did not have to drive to go anywhere downtown, we just walked. We had a pleasant stay. However, for those who want to plan a family trip, this is not the place to pick. This inn is more for couples and has a more romantic atmosphere, plus, children would not be able to partake in the evening wine and cheese tasting and would probably disturb the other guests. The prices are also wonderful and the rooms are spectacular. Our room had a huge four post king sized bed, 2 televisions, a huge bathroom, a living space (separate from the bedroom), and a large leather couch.”

  • Decor was appropriately historic Charleston.
  • Horribly uncomfortable sponge rubber pillows on the beds, rude and unaccommodating staff.

“I would not advise anyone to stay at the Anson borough. Although its appointments are lovely and characteristically historic Charleston, much to our surprise and dismay, the pillows were inexpensive sponge rubber that kept us both tossing and turning and unable to sleep all night. When we asked at the desk (we had arranged a 2-night stay) if they had any down or even feather pillows, we were told they didn't and no suggestion was made for resolving our discomfort. Faced with the prospect of another sleepless night with business meetings on the horizon the following day, we decided to check out and move to another Inn nearby. However, when we attempted to do so, we were told, much to our absolute dismay, that we would be charged a $50 "early departure fee." We couldn't believe it! And to top it all off, we were told by the acting "manager" that we would have to write a letter to the owner (whom she had just talked with on the phone) if we wanted to protest the $50 charge. When we asked for the owner's phone number so we could speak to her directly, again, we were told we would have to write. Fortunately, the charges were on an AMEX and our credit card company has agreed to cancel the $50 early departure fee. We did write a letter to the owner, and explained the situation in full, but she never even had the courtesy to respond. Unless you enjoy the experience of wrestling with a sponge rubber pillow when you're paying $165 a night for a room, I'd say steer clear of the Anson borough. The surface elegance is in no way reflected in their staff's manners and (lack of) concern for their customers' comfort.”
