• Right on ocean. Walk to everything.
• Couldn't (wouldn't) give me king room.

“Very clean, safe environment. Friendly staff. Great breakfast buffet. Walking distance to stores & restaurants. Ref & micro in room for convenience. 15 minute drive to Charleston. Way better than staying in Charleston.”

“This is a beautiful historic hotel that truly represent 'Old Charleston' yet with modern upgrades. A city parking garage is connected to the hotel, so you can walk from the garage directly to the hotel. City market is two blocks away. You can't go wrong with this hotel. This was my second stay here and we look forward to many more! This historic hotel is so close to being a 5 star property!”

• Historical yet completely renovated in the room so nice.
• It took a long time to get your car from the valet.

“This hotel is charming and has a lot of history to it. The location is perfect for sightseeing in the historical district and felt very safe. The rooms have been renovated recently so although the hotel is old, your room looks great. Rooms are on the small side but that is because of the age of the hotel.”

• Cramped room.

“The hotel was what was expected in a 3 star rated hotel. Having a business center was helpful. I wish the restaurant would have opened up at 7 am instead of 8 am.”

• The hotel public areas were elegant and truly reflected Charleston and its romance.
• Rooms could be a little larger but were still nice!

“The hotel was in a great location! The staff was excellent! The breakfast buffet was wonderful and we enjoyed eating outside in the Courtyard. We wish we had stayed longer that one night so that we could enjoy all of the amenities such as the pool and the music in the lounges. The public spaces were beautiful and elegant!”

• Hotel appears to have been recently refurbished.
• Small bathroom. Long wait for car to be returned by valet service on check out day.

“Have traveled to Charleston a number of times, but this was my first stay at mills house. Must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Well maintained and beautifully decorated. Great location too. Will stay here again.”

• I liked everything about this hotel.
• I did not like the bathroom but this is expected of older buildings. No problem.

“This is a hotel with great location within Downtown Charleston. It is very comfortable and beautiful. It is for sure one of the best in the category.”

“This hotel is very beautiful and has all the charm that Charleston is known for. The service was outstanding, every employee I encountered greeted my husband and I and was very helpful. The manager of the facility approached us in the courtyard area and brought us a plate of sliced strawberry's - I did not even know he was the manager until we started talking and I asked what his position was. We were very impressed with the overall experience and would recommend it to anyone visiting Charleston.”

• The location was incredible right on the beach with a beach view.
• I found the hotel run down and in need of a facelift.

“We loved the fact that this hotel was right on the beach and that every room had a beach front view!! This hotel could be a 4 star if they would give it a huge facelift; the rooms were dirty and smelled like smoke! Luckily the weather was beautiful and we spent the entire time at the beach so we had a really good time despite the hotel And again you cannot beat the location.”

• Great location and upscale atmosphere.
• Difficult to park and food was spotty.

“We were pleasantly surprised at the old world charm and decor. It's great to stay at a property that still believes in customer service. Love the location, near many restaurants and shopping. Parking is a challenge. Put they do have valet available. I would highly recommend and stay on my next visit.”

• Very old but well maintained, in historic Charleston.
• Bathrooms are very small but adequate.

“It has a fabulous fountain in the courtyard with tables to sit at and have a drink or eat dinner. They also had indoor tables that looked out onto the courtyard. The room was decorated very tastefully with upscale fabric. We were visiting the College of Charleston so it was not exactly walking distance but we had a rental car so that was not a problem.”

• Excellent location. Valet parking prompt and efficient. Very helpful staff.
• Restaurant was slow and overpriced. $15 BBQ shrimp appetizer consisted of 4 small shrimp and 3 potato chips.

“The smallish rooms do not detract from the charm of this historic hotel, in a great location. The hotel has much to recommend it, including lovely public spaces and a fine restaurant.”

• The location and room decor were excellent.
• The staff were not very helpful.

“Firstly, the hotel was in an excellent location and was beautifully decorated. However, the hotel staff were just not very helpful and the standard of several of the services were just not what we expected- no hotel bar after 9 pm, long waits for the Valet to bring the car and a 45-minute wait for the bell man to take luggage down (He never showed, so we brought it down ourselves). When we asked the staff about these things, their response was that they were busy.”

• The best thing about the hotel is that is it ocean front and has a balcony.
• The outside door had a big gap and let in a ton of cold air.

“I like this hotel and have stayed there previously. I hope to stay again someday. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are well furnished. The views are wonderful. I needed a little vacation so badly and this was just perfect for my need.”
