  • Just the staff.
  • NA.

“The room smelled of cigarette smoke, and it smelled awful, and I'm saying this as a smoker, so you can imagine the intensity of the stench. You couldn't open a window, and no fan option on the AC unit, so it's just suffer! The shower and bathroom had no ledge whatsoever, so every shower made a lake of water in the bathroom, which we had to mop up with bath towels after each shower. We later found out it was a handicap accessible shower. The ice machine on our floor was broken. The map quest and goggle directions to the hotel didn't work because the main road to the hotel was flooded (due to poor construction, not rain). We had decaf coffee in the room, but no normal coffee. There was no remote control for the TV, we had to call to get a new one. The elevators were extremely slow. The hotel (Comfort Inn in Charleston) is a classic example of a lower level hotel with no competition, which therefore means that they do not have a need to keep the hotel up to par.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[8] • Location:[8]

  • Location and staff, comfortable beds, shower, and breakfast that was included.
  • Mushrooms growing in hallway, to their credit it were immediately and effectively dealt with.

“The accommodations exceeded my expectations; the staff was helpful beyond the necessary and normal. As a tall person, over 6 feet, the shower head being high was a pleasant thing. That coupled with a free flowing drain made showering after returning from the beach a pleasant experience.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[7] • Location:[7]

  • Helpful employees, nice set up for free breakfast.

“My room was clean but they gave me a handicapped room even though I didn't need one. The pool was neat. It was very close to the VA hospital and fairly close to the Medical center of the University of South Carolina which is what I needed. There was a lot of fast food restaurants close by. It is very close to the harbor. The elevator was the most difficult, especially since the stairs did not lead to the first floor but one level below that opening to the outside door.”

Cleanliness:[3] • Staff:[3] • Location:[9]

  • Location and proximity to area attractions.
  • Had horrible experience with people being loud, partying, drinking and smoking in hall from 11pm-3am. Hotel staff called but to no effect.

“Good location. Limited breakfast offering. Best option was waffles but wait was always very long as they are made on a per request basis. Room not fully cleaned or restocked each day. Had no towels on second evening. Security brought two pool towels. Multiple housekeeping issues.”

Cleanliness:[2] • Staff:[4] • Location:[5]

  • Liked being on the 3rd floor, view wasn't too bad.
  • Poorly taken care of.

“I will never stay here again! Room smelled really bad! I've seen cleaner bathrooms at gas stations! Stains on carpets, spider webs in corners. Security guard sleeping in lobby, drunk people was making pool and surrounding plants dirty.”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[7] • Location:[7]

  • Clean and comfortable. Free parking. Free internet. Good complimentary breakfast.
  • View of river is blocked by condominiums. Not enough seating in dining area for breakfast (a little crowded).

“Our stay at this hotel was enjoyable. It met our expectations as a clean, comfortable, and affordable place to stay. Location was within a short drive from the Historic District (not walk able, though). The staff was friendly and polite. Our room was clean and the decor was pleasant. We really appreciated the free internet access. I would recommend this hotel to folks who don't need extravagance, just the basics, like me and my husband!”

Cleanliness:[7] • Staff:[5] • Location:[8]

  • Location and breakfast.
  • Extremely poor emergency response.

“During a complete blackout of the hotel and then partial power (halls only), we received no information, etc from staff. Additionally, they offered no courtesy (late checkout, note under door, discounted or free future stay, etc) for the inconvenience.”

“Flew in to get onboard a cruise ship on the next day. Very good to us after we had a hard day trying to get free of bad weather in Dayton Ohio and missing our connecting flight.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[10] • Location:[4]

  • Location near downtown.
  • Our non smoking room smelled like a smokers room. The previous renter had saturated the room real bad.

“For business travelers the location is good. The parking situation is not real good.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[1]

  • The rooms were spacious.
  • The location was terrible. The hair dryer & coffee maker did not work in our room.

“The employees were mostly friendly. The location was much farther from the historical distance than expected. We had to take a taxi every time we went somewhere, only adding more expense to the trip. It was our first wedding anniversary. The extensive roadwork around the hotel and terrible view (a big building) did not make it very romantic.”

  • Pretty good location.
  • Parking is horrible, the lot starts off full.

“We were stuck across from the elevator and it was very loud at all time during the night.”

  • Room is good size and clean, easy access to highways.
  • Hotel area is fairly deserted, feels unsafe.

“Another annoying thing is every morning the tide backfill into street, and you have to drive out in salt water to streets!”

Cleanliness:[1] • Staff:[2] • Location:[2]

  • I was very unhappy with everything.
  • The room had mold in the closet, toilet was broke.

“I was very unhappy with my stay. The hotel web site was very miss leading. It showed a bar, a big restaurant a beautiful view of the pool. It was not worth what I paid for it. The vending machine was broke the ice machine was broke. Someone needs to look at the web site and then actually go there and see all the miss leading info. The rooms did not look at all what they did on the web sight.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[5] • Location:[8]

  • The room was very nice.
  • Nothing worked, the elevator was not working, and the vending machines would not work.

“The people were nice, but nothing seems to work, the elevators were not working at times; the vending machines did not work on our floor. The walls seem to be paper thin. Parking was not what I thought it should be.”

Cleanliness:[4] • Staff:[5] • Location:[6]

  • Our room was the first room next to the stairs. We were able to park our car right outside the stairwell door. I probably lost a couple of pounds.

“First thing, elevator didn't work. They worked on elevator and got it working. It was so slow to the point that we just used the stairs to avoid the trouble of waiting. Carried luggage up to 2nd floor. Had to scan door key on an average of 15 times "every time". After the first couple of times, we counted. Ice machine was on 3rd, 4th and 7th floors. Ice machine on 3rd was not working. Had to climb stairs to 4th floor to get ice. Internet was down the entire time. Got up the first morning, went to lobby to eat breakfast. Waffle iron did not work. I asked hotel employee about it. She said, "oh it trips the breaker".”
