  • Very close to downtown Charleston.
  • The cockroach in the bathroom.

“We waited till 5pm to check in to the hotel, but the front desk agent told us we would have to wait for a king sized room (which we were guaranteed) to be cleaned. This upset us because normal check in time is 3pm. We were very tired from a day of walking and had to get in to the hotel ASAP to get ready for an event that night. The services definitely had some problems.”

  • Great beds. The rooms were a good size and the shower was nice.
  • My view was on the back looking at a highway.

  • The front desk staff was great.
  • The maid staff was not efficient.

“The front desk staff was wonderful upon arrival the room {unknown by the front desk staff} had not been cleaned by the maid staff but the crib I had requested was already in the room. When I mentioned it to the maid staff they acted uninterested in helping solve the problem. I called down to the front desk and the front desk clerk fixed the problem in minutes and was very friendly and service oriented. I was given a new room and when I went to move the crib the maid did not offer to help she did not say much and kept cleaning the room I had been moved from. Other then the first 20 minutes my stay was very nice and our beds were very comfortable and I would sty there again.”

  • Dirty room, fire hazards in room, cheap motel room.

“Very disappointing for such a nice location and such a high price. This room was not a suite, just a cheap motel room. The tub and toilet were nasty and the "white" towels were dirty as well. There were outlets hanging out from the wall with exposed wires next to the sink and behind the mattress, obvious fire hazard. No matter what the price or age, any hotel room should at least be clean and safe and this room was not. They did have a good breakfast.”

  • It had a bed.
  • It was older, construction, wasn't worth the price.

“When we got there the ladies at the front was indifferent and didn't want to be there. When we get to our room it wasn't what I requested. I asked the ladies to move us, but she said there was nothing available. However they did have another room for a friend of mine so you tell me.”

  • Carrows right next door.
  • Bed was very hard.

“For the money we paid this hotel was perfect. The room was neat and clean but the beds were not very comfortable. We never planned on walking to the park so the shuttle was perfect. We ate at the Carrows (next door) twice daily. The service, food, and price were all outstanding! The hotel employees were all very friendly. Overall, it was a good experience.”

  • Breakfast was ok.
  • Very poor location if you dont have a car. Rooms need work, front desk rude.

“Hotel is located near the river, however Charleston cab service is inexistent, and is not available on demand, even of you call in advance. That create a problem for La Quinta since one cannot walk anywhere beyond the parking lot. So you need to rent a car, or get a hotel downtown. Besides that staff is rude, and rooms need a lot of work.”

  • Great location, very close to downtown.
  • Was unable to get a nonsmoking room and couldn't take the smell.

“Overall the hotel was good. It's not the Ritz, but you get what you pay for. Location was excellent. I would stay there again so long as I can get a non smoking room as it was too stinky for me. If you just want a cheap place to just sleep this one will do fine.”

“We asked for another room after the carpet in the first room was damp, the room smelled, and mildew was actually on the wood furniture and could be wiped off. The 2nd room was an interior room, and was fine.”

“The hotel had a beautiful location and really convenient. Room had a musty smell. Not able to check in until 3, instead of 1. Staff was rude.”

  • Corners and edges of common areas unattended to.

“The staff was very accommodating, hotel nice, but the only thing holding it back from achieving a higher perception is the incompleteness in maintenance. Elevator floors for instance, consist of only several square meters, yet are rarely mopped, and the walls could be touched up more often. Little things, though the friendly staff did all they knew to do to be helpful.”

“This was a fine hotel. It was perfect for the accommodations we needed and the hotel was nice and clean. The staff was very helpful. The view at the Ashley River area/marina is just awesome. I'll be staying there again, I'm sure.”

  • No AC in room and most of hotel common areas.

“After informing staff that AC in room was broken, we were told sorry but all rooms were sold and that was the best they could do. Well I confronted the front desk about the reservation and no rooms, they made a call and then told me there were still no rooms and sorry. As I checked out that same night (at least no charge) they didn't care didn't offer to help find me a room somewhere else, but they did let me keep my reservation for the next night, but tried to charge me twice the rate. What a joke!”

  • Bed was clean and comfortable.
  • Floor felt humid/sticky/moldy, some bulbs in bathroom were out, and whirlpool tub was not as expected.

“If you are looking for a suite that has a big enough room to accommodate you and a toddler, and you expect to have some sort of partial divider so you can have the child sleep while you are still up watching TV, etc, do not stay here. It is a large room, but no remote dividers, and the male employee working the front desk both days we were there was less than cordial.”

  • A little isolated and hard to find initially.

“Very helpful front desk man talked me in by car the hotel is a short drive from ant services. California dreaming, the only restaurant within walking distance rolls up its sidewalks early and the staff is not interested in someone who arrives 5 min after their early close.”

  • Shabby furnishings; overpriced.

“Very disappointed based on the price. Room furnishings were run down, patch on the wall, holes where screws used to be in the bathroom door, beds were very uncomfortable.”
