“There were very limited places to eat. The pool was filled with bugs and sludge after we were there for a week. We asked about it being cleaned but, it never was to give them a chance. There was a hurricane on the way so, maybe that's why they didn't bother cleaning it. The staff was friendly except one man. Our electronic keys had stopped working throughout the week, I went to have them fixed. I went back up to the 11th floor and it still didn't work. We went back down and he was so rude, he didn't even speak to us he just nodded yes and no. We were not rude to him at all and he acted as if we were bothering him. This was a good place if you're looking to save money and not expecting a lot. It's not fancy but, passable.”

“No light bulb in lamp, was stuck in the elevator for approximately 30 minutes and had to ask for towels. The hotel did not meet my expectations.”

“AC leaked all over the room and wasn't fixed, the free shuttle was nice but the staff was often unfriendly. House keeping took towels and used shampoos but didn't replace.”

“Overall, met expectations. Would stay again in a Howard Johnson. The only thing that annoyed us was we had to pay for parking. $8 a day. Not cool considering we did not have a choice.”

“The room was fair, but the quality I expected was much more. There was no pool, and you had to pay for parking $8 per night. I called customer service several times without an answer. It took several attempts to get a remote control since I believe when the room was cleaned they took it in the linens. It was an ok stay. I will never stay again though.”

“Although not next to the airport, the transport was very good, and it was a very comfortable stay at a reasonable cost. Would use again.”

“On the big things, this hotel got it mostly right. The room was clean, there were enough towels in the bathroom, the bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly. But failure in the little things made this an okay stay rather than a great one. Neither the TV remote nor the alarm clock worked. The air conditioner didn't cool as much as I would have liked. The curtains did not close all the way, so the sun shone in before I was ready to see it. Overall, if I were vacationing again, I might return to this hotel, but I would investigate other options first.”

“The price compared to other hotels in the Downtown district is more reasonable. You pay for the differences though. The check in desk always had a line. The shuttle service is very slow-long waiting. The bed, linens, pillows, and overall room were nice. All in all because of the price I would stay again when I needed a Downtown hotel.”

“Not a hotel I would want to stay in again. I was attending meetings much of the 4 days I spent in Tampa. The location met my needs for Downtown.”

“I was very displeased with the hotel and staff, they said they had no other room for us after I complained about the a/c not working and the bathroom door wouldn't close. In the morning they gave a surprise bill for parking that no one mentioned at check in.”

“Hotel was very good, rooms were clean, staff was mixed one fantastic, others helpful, but in the bar/restaurant they left us standing there until we left for lack of service/attention.”

“The Howard Johnson Downtown Tampa hotel is an excellent value considering the location and price. This is a newly renovated hotel. The rooms are comfortable but average. The two best qualities of this hotel are the location and the hospitality staff. The hotel is just across the street from the Tampa Performing Arts Center (which makes me wonder why the well-appointed restaurant doesn't generate any business at all) and a trolley across the street will take you to Channel side and the heart of downtown every 15 minutes. The front desk staff--especially Carlos and attend to every request and make guests feel at home. The lobby and restaurant make this look like a little like a luxury hotel, but though the remodeling is finished, the hotel was far from capacity. The hotel is 15 minutes from the airport, 10 minutes to Ybor City, and 5 minutes to Channel side.”

“The bed area itself was nice the beds comfortable. The bathroom looked grungy and uninviting (especially the permanent mat in the bottom of the bathtub). The bed area was dark 3 lights one of which didn't even have a bulb in it. Our toilet wouldn't flush the last 2 days we were there. They came in and supposedly fixed it, but after one flush it wouldn't flush again. We had to take the lid off the tank and manually operate it.”

“Hotel is still being renovated. Be ready to shell out $8.00 a night for parking. Our TV didn't work so we had to get an extension cord within the first 10 minutes. Once finished, will be a great hotel.”

“The hotel lobby is a much higher star than the living areas for the guests. The rooms all had private entrances which are a good thing as balconies ring the entire building. Soundproofing was very good also. The TV had jacks to hook up your computer or DVD player and we did watch our own movies. I would stay here again and enjoy it very much.”

“When first checking into this hotel it looked terrible, but I have been to hotels that looked poorly on the outside but had a great interior and service so I decided not to judge. Once I arrived at the hotel their was no parking to be found. I found out later that the parking was pay per day and was an $8 charge. I entered this hotel to find it completely barren except for a space on the left where their was a counter, with no attendant. After about a five minute wait someone arrived and told another guest and I that we had to wait for someone else to arrive so that they could check us in (so basically the first person we saw had no purpose what so ever because he was just standing around), but once the front desk personal entered he was nothing but friendly and helpful. The room was not a 2 star room, more like 1 star. The door didn't even shut unless you locked it (which presented a problem leaving for the entire day for a convention), neither did the bathroom door. The ceiling in the bathroom had stains and looked like water damage. Their was wireless internet in the hotel, however I got a virus and now I can no longer go on internet explorer (so needless to say I would not recommend turning your laptop on in or around this place). The maid service didn't clean our room 3 out of the 4 days (we had to call down and tell the front desk clerk to tell them to clean our room because all they did was leave towels next to our door the next day, but the one day they cleaned the room they did a satisfactory job. God only knows what happened to the remote control, it wasn't their the entire trip and when I called down to request one they told me that I'd have to call at 7:30am to get one.”

“The hotel was recently bought out and is being remodeled. The room had no water the first night and the staff was not friendly or understanding that this was a problem for someone checking in and expecting to clean up a take a shower.”
