“It was a great location and their prices were great given that we were given a beautiful pool side room with a private patio overlooking their pool. Landscaping was very beautiful and the rooms were surprisingly large compared to other motels/hotels that I have stayed in. Furniture and bed linens looked new. Staff was great, pleasant to talk to and very accommodating.”

“Continental breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, plain bagels, bread, toaster and some old pastries. I went for the pool for my birthday and it was closed. I was told it would reopen within an hour. It never opened. I checked out and went to another hotel.”

“Charge for everything. Rooms were not clean. Treated like a criminal when asked for extra towels. No bathroom in lobby son had to use rest room when arrived and told would have to wait till we check in because there is none in the lobby.”

“It is difficult to find anything in the Sarasota area this time of year for under $100. This hotel was comparable to motel 6. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful and accommodating. Continental breakfast was adequate but did not open on time as posted.”

“I will never stay there again! It was by far the worst experience that I have ever had in staying at a hotel. I asked for an alarm clock, and was told one was going to come to my room (which never showed up), I also asked for a wake up call that never came. I went out there for a meeting that I missed because of the fact that I was not woken up to attend it. I am hoping that I will not get fired because of the fact I missed the meeting. There were MANY people very upset with me.”

“Poor area, I was told by some local people after I left that the hotel was in the middle of a crack neighborhood. I could tell by the police activity.”

“This hotel is definitely not more than a 1-star hotel, especially when you consider it's in the worst part of Sarasota. My wife and I arrived and within the first 5 minutes noticed that the drawers were busted, bed was broken, sink did not drain at all, mold and mildew was all over the bathroom sink and counter, I can go on and on. We asked to be put in a different room and the only difference was that the drawers and bed weren't broken. If so many other nearby hotels hadn't been booked full, we would have left immediately. The hotel is disgusting and should be either torn down or sold to new management.”

“I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. In fact, I am looking for some sort of refund. This was one of the worst hotel stays I have had in all my years. I am usually very understanding, but the room was old looking and old smelling. The first room we had did not have a shower curtain. None of the rooms had central air--there was a beat-up in window A/C unit in each room. The remote control only turned the TV on with none of the other buttons working on the TV. When I went to complain in the morning when I left the room, no one was at the front counter; the office was closed completely with no one on staff to address my concerns.”

“The hotel was practically vacant and there were few amenities. There was a pool. The pillows were not comfortable and the room was musty smelling. It was in a run down part of town. On the upside, the room was more spacious than most hotel rooms in this class.”

“This is an old, 1950's era motor hotel that someone re-flagged and put a coat of paint on it. It is still a dog!”

“The staff was friendly, but charged us an additional amount for a 2nd bed making is stay more than if we had booked elsewhere at new hotels of better ratings. The hotel looked like an old fashioned motor lodge. They've done renovations, but the bathrooms are in poor condition and the stay was lacking in the quality one expects at a 2 star hotel. Our towels were thread bare, there was mold, the fixtures had pits and dirt build up, and there were stains and general age issues. The breakfast was very slim. Just bread or cereal with coffee/juice. With all the newer constructed hotels near by, this hotel dims to those with the same star rating and should be re evaluated!”

“The staff at golden host was good and thorough. I feel like the management does the best they can with the facilities in their current condition. The location of hotel is easy to downtown Sarasota, the waterfront, airport, and interstate. The hotel also has some nice amenities, including a pool and family style restaurant. However, the rooms are really old and could benefit from renovation. The sheets on our bed were so old that there were holes (and cigarette burns) in them, despite being a non smoking room. In addition, the room smelled crusty.”

“Older hotel. room appeared clean. strong bleach odor. cockroach in room, staff responded and moved us to new room. no offer of refund. the pool was very full of green slime around the edge. I made my kids get out for fear of sickness.”

“We had to change rooms twice (1st, poor cable reception; 2nd, clogged toilet) and there were still problems with the 3rd room (no TV remote), but at that point we were too tired to move again. All three of the rooms were in poor condition (peeling wallpaper, smell of mildew). The staff stated an upgrade to a King size bed would be $20 additional per night, but when we got there the marquee said $69.00 per night for all rooms, which incidentally meant that, at $60 per night, a discount of only $9.00. Not to mention that it would seem having to change rooms would have resulted in an offer of an upgrade. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. I know I only requested 2 stars, but 2 stars should not mean clogged toilets, poor cable reception, mildew smells, small thin towels, etc.”
