“The hotel on the whole was decent from the outside looking in. To a passerby, it was a decent looking place. We checked into our 'Name your price room' (which we usually get 2 double or queen beds), however when we opened the door, there was one double bed. The smell of the room was horrible. My wife couldn't breathe hardly because of the mold that was growing on the ceiling of the room. We went to see if the front desk to re assign our room and the counterperson said that we'd have to wait until 8 or 8:30p to switch when her mom (the manager) would be in. And even then we weren't guaranteed a different room. After discussing this with the couple we were with, we decided to just get another hotel. We knew we wouldn't get our money back, but we couldn't stay in those conditions. The front desk clerk alerted us that all the hotels in the area were booked full. But we finally did stay about 5 miles south of where we were for about the same price in a room that was a lot better.”

“When we first entered the room it had a damp smell so we had to spray some freshener. At first glance the room seemed sub par but could be dealt. Then when I looked at the sheets/pillow cases; they (both beds) seemed to have some dirt marks that should have been removed in the wash. (In addition to the cheesy felt blanket under the sleeper) I then requested new sheets the next morning and sure enough when we got back to the room the same sheets were used in the newly made beds. This should be a no-star hotel/motel. On a good note, we did not get any Lice and such.”

“Very dirty. None would shower in my family, bugs every where. Big spiders all over the entry to the room. TV remote was broke. They would not give us a different one, and would not give extra pillows to, our room. Everyone itched all night. Very bad place. Sheets had old stains of blood also.”

“Check in was slow. Rest of staff was friendly and helpful. Although not first choice, I would stay there again for price accepted.”

“This hotel was awful! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There were stains on the bedding and the carpet was terrible. There were spiders and other bugs in the room and bathroom. This hotel was the worst!”

“This hotel is unkempt, dirty, and has very unfriendly and bad service. The staff was rude on the phone and in person. The room was old and in need of repair (the handle to the faucet came off in my hand when I tried to turn it on, there were holes in the bath towels, and the list could go on). There was mold in the bathroom and the walls were paper thin. This was probably the worst hotel experience I have ever had.”

“We were accompanied with friends of ours and we were satisfied with bed situation. The price could have been a little better. The front desk clerk was nice. The hotel is located in a perfect area with restaurants and such around. If u are just staying to sleep this a perfect place to stay. Not for a 3 day stay or more.”

“We were desperate for a place at the last minute. I read the other reviews and I agree - it's not a place I would ever go to again unless I absolutely had to. Considering the great number of places to stay in Sandusky, I would avoid this motel if possible. I would only suggest it to someone who wanted to have a "quickie room and a low profile," if you know what I mean.”

“This is not even a 1 star hotel. This is the worst hotel experience I have personally ever had. The cost of the stay does not match the level of the service.”

“The staff was courteous and helpful. The conditions of the rooms were not very good, walls need repair, cracked bath tub, noisy air conditioner, and deadbolt did not work. The outside of the hotel on the main drive was very misleading till you got back by the rooms. I have had much better hotel rooms at the price level I selected.”

“This hotel is ok if you will spend almost no time there outside of sleeping. It was not very clean. There was little availability of parking spaces. Older and outdated technology and facilities (e.g., hard keys, no computer at front desk). The staff was young and did not have a professional appearance. They were flexible and had a continental breakfast. I have stayed in many other hotels in the area and would prefer others over this one.”

“This hotel did not provide a clean room. We did not have towels, washcloths, or soap in the room. When we did finally receive towels at almost 1am, they were dirty. The toilet and floors were dirty. The air did not work in the hotel room. No manager was on staff. The front desk clerk called the manager who refused to get on the phone with us. We were given a 1-800 # to call. When we called the # we were told we would receive a call back in 24 hours. After 49 hours, I called back to see why we had not been contacted. I was then told that my call would be returned within 1 hour. 24 hours later I called back and was told that they could not make a manager return my calls, and that I would be hung up on each time that I called again. At that time I was hung up on. When I called back for a manger she told me that she couldn't understand why I was so upset and there is nothing further she can do because the members of management who have to respond to complaint calls have decided not to return my calls for one reason or another. We are considering taking this to small claims court because we had to pay for the room prior to being able to see it, and cannot receive a refund.” Amenities at Best Budget Inn South, Sandusky
