  • The location and views are outstanding.
  • Lobby and shower are in need of repair/renovation.

“While this hotel is showing some wear and tear, it is in an unbeatable location to serve as a base for exploring downtown Chicago. The views of the Chicago river from the rooms are inspiring.”

  • The room was ginormous!
  • The paint on the tub was peeling off.

“Recently renovated rooms were spacious and comfortable. Low marks from other reviewers about the elevators and room service have been addressed and were not an issue. The room was big enough to allow me to comfortably work from the convenient separate desk area. However, the (free) wireless was sometimes excruciatingly slow.”

  • The Staff was very helpful and very friendly. Every request that we had was granted with a smile.

“We felt very welcome. The hotel staff remembered us and greeted us by name every time we walked in or out of the lobby. We used the room, lobby and outside of the hotel for a photo shoot. It made for a wonderful and romantic Valentines weekend. I will definitely stay there again.”

  • Very sophisticated & sleek.
  • Scratchy towels, foam pillows, small room, lukewarm water in shower, and no tub

“We came from the wrong direction & were stuck in an endless underground tunnel. Not much room curbside for unloading - lots of double-parked cabs, etc. Inside, it's elegant & attractive. Our room was small for two people, with no down pillows or soft towels, and the shower water was barely lukewarm. With a few comfort improvements, however, this would be a great place to stay.”

  • Location of the hotel.
  • The bathroom.

“There were issues with the drain in the tub and it was not repaired during my stay.”

  • Snappy, pleasant service staff and
    great location.
  • Parking is expensive, even for downtown Chicago.

“The renovated lobby and guest rooms have ample space and trendy design. Great rain forest showers and spacious tub. The service staff was attentive and helpful. In-room dining during the renovation of the hotel restaurant was above average and prompt.”

  • Fast check in, great staff.
  • Parking was $43.

“A no frills hotel located just off of Michigan Avenue. Perfect for business or leisure travelers. Friendly to all types.”

  • The rooms were spacious and clean and
    staff was
    very courteous.
  • Parking was 43.00 per night and the
    TV reception was horrible.

“All in all we had a pleasant stay. Parking was expensive at 43.00 per night and the rooms needed some repair as the wall paper was peeling and old. The beds were quite comfortable and the view from our corner room was spectacular. The location could not be beat! There was not a restaurant on site, however down the street and a nice corner bakery next door. We enjoyed our stay, well for downtown Chicago.”

  • I liked the internet access.
  • Slow elevators.

“Overall, this was a nice hotel. The room was inviting room and it was the perfect location to downtown. The bed was a little to hard for my liking and the elevators were pretty slow.”

  • Small elevators.

“Our room was beautiful, spacious with a gorgeous view of the river, very convenient to everything we wanted to do in Chicago, from the Water Tower Place, to the Orient Theater to Macy's on State Street.”

  • Well-decorated, beautiful location, very large room, beautiful view and convenient to all we needed.
  • No restaurant, but did have room service, room needed another trash can.

“I was very pleasantly surprised by the nice room and the size of the room. The staff was very friendly, the room and view were beautiful and it was very convenient to all we needed to do and get to in and out of town. It was always a pleasure to come back to our room.”

Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[7] • Location:[8]

  • The large room and location close to our theater.
  • The malfunctioning elevators and lack of information on the hotel in the room.

“Hotel 71 was a pleasant discovery and worth the price.”

  • Staff was friendly and efficient. It was our honeymoon trip and they made sure we had a view and corner room.
  • Elevators were under construction. Took a little time to get an elevator.

“Lovely location. On the river and right in the middle of the action. We walked to Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and the El trains. The staff was friendly and efficient. They helped us to find a great corner room with a view-we have just gotten married. Very clean and comfortable.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[10] • Location:[8]

  • Work out facility was nice and private.
  • Elevators were slow with only one working to top floors.

“Staff was very friendly. They had rooms available for early check in. Rooms were huge and very enjoyable. Only two problems while staying there. 1) The elevators were very slow. I stayed on the 34th floor and only one of the two elevators worked to those floors. 2) Even when I placed the do not disturb sign on my door, the house keeping continued to knock on my door at about 8 am everyday.”

“For the price I liked the hotel on the whole.”

Cleanliness:[9] • Staff:[9] • Location:[10]

  • Convenient location; helpful staff; beautiful rooms.
  • There is no driveway; I parked at the curb and was not greeted by hotel staff and had to get out and find the valet.

“I would definitely recommend this hotel for drivellers to Chicago. Most tourist attractions are walking distance, from the Magnificent Mile, to the Navy Pier, Millennium park and Art Institute. The hotel room was brightly decorated, clean, and well-kept. Especially worth noting - I didn't hear noise from the hallway or neighboring rooms - a big plus. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Overall this was a great experience.”
