  • Fantastic Location and they gave us wine each night in the beautiful lobby area.
  • The street noises kept us up at times, but it is an inner city.

“Fantastic. Would love to go there again.”

  • The atmosphere was warm & the staff extremely friendly.
  • The restaurant has a small selection & few items for children.

“It was wonderful. The bed was comfortable, the room was very clean, the view and atmosphere was great and inviting, and the staff was all very professional and friendly.”

  • Very clean and great atmosphere.
  • The valet service was poor.

“The hotel was fine but not worthy of 4 stars. On two separate occasions we were treated like second class citizens. We were informed by the hotel management that our reservation was made through an "opaque" source so we did not qualify for their rewards program, etc. I would not stay at this hotel again with the way we were treated.”

  • Wine reception, cleanliness, location.
  • Construction noise, small rooms.

“For the most part, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Burnham. The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. The location of the hotel is excellent! Unfortunately, the rooms and lobby area seemed to be small for the price, although they're quite cozy in feel. The construction of 108 N. State Street (right across from our room) was incredibly annoying during all hours of the day and night. Had the construction noise not existed, our stay would have been rated much higher! We felt pity for the staff because there's not really anything they can do to alleviate the noise, but they didn't offer any suggestions on how to make it more comfortable for us either. When construction ends, we'll certainly consider returning to Hotel Burnham.”

  • Location, history, style, staff.
  • Construction & street traffic noise.

“Not a real good time to stay at this hotel 2/15/07 because of new building being constructed across the street. Wait 6 six months to a year before booking. Other then the noise it was a terrific place to stay in the Chicago Loop.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[8] • Location:[10]

  • Decorated in a fun contemporary style. Great location. Friendly staff.
  • Rooms are very small (more like something you find in Europe) and very noisy.

“It was a fun place to stay but a couple of downsides. The room was incredibly noisy as there was construction taking place that night outside our window. Very noisy night. Small room, but very nicely decorated, very clean, with the exception of the complimentary bath robes that were covered with someone else's hair. Fantastic location for shopping as it is located across from the Marshall Fields Flagship store (now mace's) and surrounded by other great shopping and close to great restaurants and the theatre.”

  • I loved the old feel of luxury that hotel gave off.
  • They accidentally charged me for valet, even though I didn't bring a car, they corrected it quickly.

“I thought this hotel was beautiful. It has a great location and our room looked right onto the center of state street. The rooms are a little small, so if your a bigger family I would worry about space. Other then that it was one of my favorite hotels.”

  • Great Location, awesome complimentary wine hour.
  • I asked them not to roll my window down in my car and they did. I hope they will pay to fix it!

“The hotel is awesome! Beautiful and very historic. The beds were a little small in the double bed rooms. The location is awesome in Chicago for walkers. Close to museums and restaurants and GREAT shopping!”

  • Interesting story, history of building.
  • Construction was loud, hard to reach.

“The building is historic and very interesting. The standard rooms are very small and we felt quite cramped. You had to close some doors to open others, etc.”

  • The staff was excellent and accommodating in all ways.

“I made my reservation in march for Aug. 31. And I could not choose my room ahead of time. Example: I wanted 2 queen beds instead of one queen, or one king. By the time I arrived they were all sold out of what I needed..”

  • The building is beautiful, including the inside decor.
  • Construction made it too noisy to get to sleep and the staff was not accommodating regarding our wish to cancel the next night's stay.

“The hotel is beautiful and historic. The rooms are clean, although ours was very small. The staff was friendly, but I didn't give many stars for the reason that follows. Right now (Aug. 2007) the street in front of the hotel is under construction. There is one lane available by the hotel with no drive to pull into. The valet parker is supposed to stand out front to look for cars that may be passing by to check in. The gentleman was not out there when we went by. It took us about 10 minutes to go around the block to approach the hotel again, due to construction and one-way streets. We had to call the front desk to make sure someone would be out front. When we got to our room, we discovered that the construction crew was just getting started at bedtime. Finally, at about 1:30 a.m. we were able to fall asleep despite the horrible noise, but we were incredibly tired the next morning. We knew as soon as we got there that we didn't want to stay a second night with the noise, so we called the front desk to cancel the next day's hotel and dinner reservations. The front desk clerk said he would take care of both. When we checked out in the morning, the morning desk clerk knew nothing of the cancellations because the night clerk had not done his job. She did cancel our reservations, but did not even ask why we were checking out a day early. Other than being in the middle of a construction route, the hotel is conveniently located near lots of shopping opportunities, theaters, and restaurants.”

  • The wine tasting session at 5 pm each evening was a delight.
  • Rooms are a bit on the small side.

“Wonderful location and staff. Restaurant downstairs seemed a bit pricey at first, but the food was so good I realized it was worth it. There was construction across the street, but I never heard a thing: the entire hotel was really quiet. Highly recommend.”
