“Overall I was very pleased that was the first time I used Priceline so I was a little skeptical but great place. Would stay again. The bath tub was a little steep for my 88 yr old grandma but we managed fine great service although we were not going to be hanging out much at the hotel. I was traveling with 2 senior family members and we had lots of things to see in the windy city very memorable trip. Thanks!”

“Service was excellent and the neighborhood was great, just out of the hustle and bustle of downtown, but within easy walking distance of many restaurants and bars and other services. Staff was very helpful.”

“Older hotel that has been brought up to date. Exercise facility was sparse. Bar area was quiet and dark.”

“The hotel was not what I had expected. The room carpets were very dirty. My feet were black on the bottom. If I went with out socks and shoes in the room. I had multiple cockroaches crawling up out of a covered hole in the bathroom floor. The TV was small and CD player didn't work . The gym area was not maintained and the equipment in bad shape. I would not stay at the hotel again in its current condition.”

“The location was out of this world. The pump room was excellent. My husband could not sleep because his feet hung over the bed after being told we were being given a queen bed, since they had no king. Our room was next to the elevator shaft and the noise kept us awake throughout the night. I had to get up at 4 am to run a half marathon and literally got no sleep.”

“Overall fantastic, but I have never stayed at a hotel at this star level that charges for Internet access. Carpets and TVs in the rooms need a serious upgrade.”

“We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It was a convenient location to the CTA Red Line as well as 2 blocks away from a bus stop that runs up Michigan Avenue. Very old hotel with lots of history - visit the Pump Room and it's famous Booth #1. Friendly and helpful staff.”

“The only thing 3.5 stars about this hotel are the available amenities. The lobby was well kept and gives a very nice 1930s feel. The problem starts when you get to your room. Carpet ripped with stains all over, must be at least 20 years old. Repairs to room looks like a poorly trained handyman took care of it with parts found from the garbage. The chair, ripped with filling coming out and stained. The armory, doors ripped off leaving chunks of partial board exposed. The tub, maybe white once but now brown. The bathroom grout brown and filthy. Stains on the walls, looks like the wallpaper is about 20 years old. Rest of the furniture in the room, chipped and old. Poorly kept up facility. Staff were very friendly.”

“The Ambassador East was a very nice hotel with a rich history of celebrities staying and dining there. I would've preferred it had a pool but I will definitely consider staying here again even though it doesn't. The rooms were clean and linens were clean and had white down comforters instead of icky bedspreads. The hotel staff was very accommodating and gave a tour to a group of senior citizens.”

“After I booked this trip I was severely upset with my first Priceline experience. There is no way a 3-1/2 star hotel has no swimming pool, no free interet service, and is labeled by many on this site as "outdated and disgusting". I called Priceline and argued with them about this for 45 minutes and they still declined to cancel my reservation. When we got to the hotel we were pleasantly surprised at the good location. The rooms were outdated but it's a historic district. The TV/cable was bad, but we didn't come to Chicago to stay in the hotel. The room was clean and the staff was very good. The stay was not a disaster experience as some other people described, and for that I was pleasantly surprised. Back to my initial argument with Priceline-- this is NOT a 3-1/2 star hotel. When I travel for work I stay at Super 8, Comfort Inn and other economy hotels all the time. To me a 3-1/2 star hotel should be much better than this. This hotel has less emenities than the economy hotels. There should be deductions in the ratings for the things the hotel DOES NOT have. Seems to me that because they overcharge (regular room rates are like $200/night), high priced mini-bar, valet, and a restaurant in the lobby they are entitled to higher rating with Priceline. All in all the stay was okay. Nothing against the hotel, I would stay there again, but for less money since it's not 3-1/2 stars. Priceline needs to be improve their ratings system.”

“My stay at the Ambassador East Hotel was splendid. She is one of the Grand Dame hotels that you rarely see these days - class, style and at reasonable rates. I was impressed that such a storied past was so well preserved while all of the modern conveniences were readily available. Kudos to your, Ambassador East.”

“The room smelled mildewy, there were nat's on the window sills and bed, torn curtains and the elevators seemed to run 50% of the time. The staff was totally rude. Dirty smelly rooms and arrogant put off staff. I am sad to say the Ambassador has seen its better day and certainly no longer worthy of recommendation nor its 4 star level.”
