“If there had been any way to switch hotels, we would have. I was with a group and we didn't arrive till nearly 11, our transportation gone until the next morning. The hotel is 12 stories high, and as far as I could tell had only 1 elevator and no stairs. Said elevator creaks and shakes enough to star in a horror film. The rooms had radiators running, even though the temperature was already well over 80 indoors, and there was no way to turn them off. The windows would not open. Everything screamed "Fire Hazard!" Everything looked filthy. There was rust in the bathroom, and dust everywhere. I turned on the air conditioning (good point: they have ac!) to counter the heat and slept on top of my jacket on the bed. By morning the temp had cooled to someplace in the lower 70s. Oh, did I mention the group leader gave me his room after they couldn't find my reservation? Over an hour later they found it under "Martinez". The only similarity between that and my last name is the first letter. We had two-night reservations, and were able to cancel the second nights. We ended up staying at a wonderful Marriott Suites about 40 minutes away. For significantly less than we'd been paying at the Gold Coast!”
