• The location was nice, and it was in a nice building.
• The jerks gave me a smoking room.

“Place is nice, awesome view if you get the water side. They gave me a smoking room when I asked for nonsmoking. But on the plus side I got an awesome view. It was hard to breath in the room. Thank god I only did it for one night.”

• The room was very comfortable and quiet. The size and quality of the swimming pool was a pleasant surprise.
• The location was not marked very well. We had a hard time finding the entrance. We drove around it several times before stopping to ask someone.

• It was clean and staff was very helpful.
• There wasn't much to do in close area, but actually we just took a cab.

“It was clean, staff helpful, cab easy to get, not far from train station, lots of fast food dining, great pool and easy access, easy to get to American Girl Store.”

• Fast elevators; relatively quiet; super friendly staff; air conditioning unit.
• Bed a bit too firm; lack of TV channel selection.

“This hotel could not be easier to use in conjunction with public transportation. We became very comfortable with CTA's rail service, and having it stop right there at Merchandise Mart was like being dropped off at home. We were pleased with the straightforwardness of our room - clean and serviceable. I would have liked more channels on the television and a softer bed, but I wouldn't even consider those complaints. We did not use any of the hotel's services beyond our basic room (i.e. restaurants, room service, laundry, etc.).”

• The maid staff was so friendly and helpful, they said good morning or good evening with a smile.
• The rooms were outdated, bath room tile looked really old and dirty.

“I would not stay at this hotel again, the hotel is close to the brown line to Kimball, however, you have to go through a lobby and to the 15th floor of the Chicago sun time building to get to the hotel. Once you there you have to go to the other side of the lobby and up to your room from there.”

• The luxurious in room shower, room updates, view, pillow selection.
• No Whirlpool, noticed 2 bugs in our room.

“The Holiday Inn Mart Plaza was a fairly classy place. Modern fixtures including an amazing Kohler shower & sink, very nice lamps, carpet, tables, desk and flat panel television. The view of Chicago from our room was amazing. One thing disappointed us: there was no whirlpool, which we found surprising for a hotel like this. The bar was very nice, a great place to grab a drink and check out the Chicago skyline. The hotel is also conveniently located along the El train loop, just a short walk through the merchandise mart, which is connected to the hotel through a skywalk. Overall, a great hotel.”

• Great location.
• Didn't initially get the type of room we requested but the hotel staff quickly rearranged our rooms.

“Great location. The rooms were clean and bright. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful and the lobby was spacious. Only downside was that valet parking staff seemed inconvenienced when we dropped off our car and picked it up. In fact they seemed surprised that we even wanted to use valet parking. Apparently not many guests do.”

• The view was spectacular. The staff was so nice and friendly.
• It wasn't close enough to catch transportation such as trolley, bus and etc. You walked or took taxi.

“After upgrading to have a room that hadn't been a smoking room and a really good view, so we enjoyed. They rooms were good and clean. When we needed something like more linen they were right there. The staff was so nice and helpful. I can't praise them enough. It was a nice experience and I would go back.”

• General location was accessible for me needs.
• Rooms were very dated and not as clean as I would like to stay in.

“The hotels lobby area and common areas are representative of the star level. The rooms are not. They need updating and to have more thorough cleaning.”

• The view from my room was amazing!
• The bed was a little stiff.

“Other than the bed being a little stiff I would highly recommend this hotel. I had a great view from my room and the room was huge! I was able to partake in the Skylounge bar and restaurant. The service was great and the people there were very friendly. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and most helpful getting me checked in and out quickly. The CTA was within 2 blks of the hotel, very convenient! My hats off to the people who work at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza.”

“Not enough coffee in the room no free coffee anywhere in hotel no free WiFi, the view we had was of another room window, who wants to see that when you are in Chicago very disappointed in that.”

• The man at the concierge was incredibly helpful and patient.
• Emailed them 4 times to confirm twin beds, non smoking etc. and not once did I get a reply!

“The hotel is not in an attractive part of town so it took a while to warm to Chicago. I thought it would be being on the river but definitely did not feel safe at night, transport connections were not too easy and there were very few nearby decent restaurants. Once inside though the experience was enjoyable.”

• Rooms were large and clean and in excellent repair.
• Bellmen could have been more helpful and had a better attitude.

“I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Rooms were larger and in better repair than I expected. Hotel was located close to the EL and in walking distance of many restaurants. It was also a short cab ride to N. Michigan Avenue and many museums, Millennium park and other attractions.”
