“My wife and I found an advertisement for this Wisconsin resort/spa. We got to our room to find smeared mirrors, dirty blinds and hair in the bathroom. We called the front desk and were told a housekeeper would correct the problems. We headed for the spa for the worst massage we had ever experienced. The staff seemed like locals that received on the job training. They dumped cold water on us with one service and took skin off my wife's leg with their hot wax treatment. My wife also had a manicure and pedicure which looked like a kindergarten project. We went to dinner where the wait staff overheard us and said we should talk to the hotel manager. Although the wait staff was courteous and friendly and the food in the restaurant named Lola's, was horrid. They bragged about their squash soup which was nothing more than pureed squash with an odd side taste. And then there was the Osthoff's cooking school. The two chefs were dull, had little information to offer and produced an inedible meal. The recipes seemed like they were from a middle school class. We will never go back. We have always gone to Door County and will continue to make the peninsula our destination.”

“The resort is located in a tiny village of Elkhart lake, mostly residents with a few non descript shops. The Osthoff looked good from the outside but the rooms were cheesy and smelled that was too. The air conditioner had to be fixed numerous times and when it was non functioning we could not even open a window. The food in Otto's restaurant was greasy, poorly made and simply tasted terrible. Worse yet was their restaurant called Lola's which they claim is their fine dining restaurant. The prices were outrageous and the food was horrid. Dried out seafood, overcooked meat, leftover tasting vegetables. We had a corked wine and the waitress did not even know what that was and insisted the wine was good. When we showed her the leak where the wine came through the cork she said that was common and nothing was wrong. The meal was $150 for the worst food we have even had anywhere. I was checking the hotel out for a conference but after speaking to a sales person could see we were being nickel and dime to death. The area is remote, difficult to find and there is little else to do. We did find one good restaurant in the village called The Paddock Club which had excellent food and another called lake Street Bistro which had good sandwich and lunch fare. The worst was we saw a bride crying because the banquet people had forgotten to allow the bride and groom to cute the cake as the staff was in a hurry to wrap up.”

“I just returned from a three day conference at the Osthoff. This was my first stay there and I was really impressed. My room was a wonderfully comfortable suite with gas fireplace. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The grounds and hotel were impeccably kept. The setting on the lake, the landscaping, pond, gazebo and view of Elkhart Lake was so beautiful. I thought this could be a wonderful setting for a wedding or special celebration gathering. Between seminar breaks I would walk the paths and take in the views. The main fitness center had all the basics and then some. The conference rooms were comfortably accommodating. Otto's Restaurant has great food and service. I will recommend this resort readily and I hope to return someday for a non-conference relaxing getaway with my spouse.” Amenities at The Osthoff Resort, Elkhart Lake
